4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good model kit, May 18, 2011
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter Model Kit (Toy)
Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter from Revenge of the Sith is a fairly good model kit, as it isn't a pre-assembled toy that some might think. It's a Level 1 Snap Tite kit from Revell, which basically means it comes fully painted for you in it's "stock" colors and all you have to do is cut the pieces from the runners and snap them together.

Overall, Revell did a pretty good job with the paint, although there may be the occasional error on a model or two since it's mass produced. The cockpit is made from a very nice transparent plastic which gives you full view of the interior. The cockpit sports plenty of detail but could use a little paint or lining marker to bring out said detail. The s-foils on the wings also open up and sort of "lock" into place, but they can become loose, so a little dried paint or glue should be used to tighten it.

However, it does have it's fair share of errors and quirks that take away from the overall value of the model. For one, the cockpit has no way to stay open, and doesn't open very wide, unlike the in-movie model. When assembling this model, be extremely careful and don't try to force the pieces into each other too violently. The pegs are actually of poorer quality than some other plastic model kits, and they tend to break often or don't go into the designated hole very easily. Have some glue ready in case a peg breaks off, as it tends to do so. I also found that almost all the pegs were too thick for a lot of the parts, forcing me to simply cut them off and glue the parts on instead.

The biggest crime of all, however, is the fact that Revell didn't include a display stand or any sort of hole on the underside of the fuselage to connect a display stand to. Due to this, the ship can only be displayed sitting on your desk with the wings closed, since in order for it to be displayed with the wings open, it must be in middair. No display stand that I have can readily hold onto this ship.

It also comes with a rubbery figure of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is actually quite large, but it is, to put it blunty, horrible. The eyes look downright creepy, and the overall figure is basically a rubbery mess that just barely looks like Obi-Wan as seen in the movies.

Still, despite all that, it's still a nice, sturdy and large model. (Fairly larger than Revell's X-Wing and Y-Wing models.) It bothered me at first that it wasn't in scale with the afterformentioned models, but they're from seperate trilogies, so it's slightly forgivable.

Compared to Anakin's Jedi Starfighter, they're of the same size but have slightly different molds. Anakin's wings have slightly different panels on them and a clearly different paint job. The cockpit seats also differ slightly, but other than that everything else remains the same.

I bought this for my grandson who likes all things 'Star Wars'. I've built dozens of Revell models from 1950 to 1960. Those WERE fun toys. What's wrong? Though advertised as "Snap-Tight" most pieces don't fit together and easily fall apart. But if you're satisfied with the picture of the Starfighter on the box, I guess it's okay. I would rate this'minus 2 stars'.

The product was not clearly identified as a snap-tight model. I should have suspected something from the price, but live and learn I guess.
