4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Cheese. . .
This CD as many have stated before is a Disco Star Wars along with several other mixes. Trust me, it is really cheesy and very corny. It is however incredibly fun and light hearted. I enjoy the whole aspect of the disco/john williams hybrid and just simply have fun with it. I am listening right now to a light saber battle with a disco beat underneath it and smiling...

3.0 out of 5 stars Star funkadelic . . . and then some!
I must admit, I do agree with some reviewers who think it a "bit much". I once had the original album on disco vinyl, and remember playing it. Now that I am recollecting some light-hearted music of the past, I find that I am totally satisfied with the 7:35 DJ promo-only 12" version track provided on cd compilation "The Casablanca Records Story".
For those looking...

This is some great stuff to just rock out to and feel good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sound To Old Ears..., May 29, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Star Wars & Other Galactic Funk (Audio CD)
I worn out this vinal LP when it originaly came out.

I am glad that this was re-released on CD.

The orignal LP just encluded "Star Wars" and "Other Galatic Funk"

This re-release also gives us the 45 rpm single (7" edit), and the 12" Disco Edit that were mainly played on the Radio at the time.

"Star Wars" is a great mix of inspired music from Meco that he saw fit from the movie. A must for any Star Wars fan (before Lucas ruined the movie), and also children from the 70's.

"Other Galactic" funk is a very rare track for Meco, he takes the marching rhythm and the sounds he heard from the city streets to produce a real good marching themed track.

Now there are other albums from Meco I have not seen on CD yet, and they are

"Encounters of Every Kind" - A fantastic voyage using a 'Time Machine' based story line for the entire album. This is by far my most favorite Meco album. Since this album features a great deal of sound effects, including a full drive by shooting before the song "Crazy Rhythm" when the time machine visits the 1920's era.

"Wizard Of Oz" - Meco visits and arranges music from the classic MGM movie.

"Superman and Other Galactic Heroes" - Meco sets out on a musical adventure as Superman.

"Moondancer" - Meco, the Moon and Disco Music... nothing else more to say.

"Meco Pop Goes To The Movies" - Meco's has taken famous movie themes, such as "M*A*S*H", "Gone With The Wind", "The Pink Panther", and more and has remixed them as his own versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars I still have it!, August 25, 1999

I have this L.P. at home here. It's in great condition, but it's not like I can hook up a record player in my car when I'm going to work. I love the sound of the 70's and Star Wars is one of my favorite movies, so when I found that they put this on CD, I was psyched! Disco lives on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disco Star Wars, September 23, 1999

Now, I;m not a big fan of the 70's, nor of disco, but I just had to hear this album. I am amazed! I'm surprised my parents didn't listen to this when they were my age. This CD has become one of my "must listen to before school" CD's :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe I found it . . ., June 10, 1999

Back in 78 this rendition of Star Wars was a mainstay of Disco nights in Europe. I taped from an 8-track version back then and finally found an LP in early 80's. I no longer have an LP player (neither the LPs). I have been looking for this on CD for years. It's addicting. The more you listen more you'll want to listen. Thanks Amazon.com. This is the second time I found something at Amazon.com that I had no hope of finding.

This compact disc rocks! I vaguely remember hearing the music when I was a wee fry many moons ago. When I got older, I heard about the album but never was able to locate a copy of it. About a year ago, I was informed it was out on cd and I now finally have a copy. The music here is disco so unless you're a disco fan or Star Wars buff, you probably wouldn't want a copy. However, if you are a member of any of the above mentioned categories, this album would make a nice addition to your collection.

The second title on this album, "Other Galactic Funk", is a delight to hear, too. The sound of the song sounds like a marching band gone disco. What an idea! Awesome!

since i borrowed it from a friend in 77, recorded in a cassette and worn it in 1981 by playing over and over, y hadn't the pleasure of hearing the epic and heroic version of Meco of Star Wars, so finding it in CD was remembering those crazy days, with digital sound and no scratches on the record. A 70's must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars YES! YES! YES!... and YES!, August 24, 1999

I went through THREE of these LP's when I was a kid - wore the first two out and Mom (God bless her) sold the last one in a garage sale. Whoever finally decided to re-release this must have been reading my mind... I've been looking all over the 'net for this for years. Look, man, just buy this CD, or may a disco-TIE-fighter fly up your nose and fry your nose hairs!

First of all, Meco is amazing. I can't believe how mesmerizing this disc is, even though by all rights it should be complete cheese. However, before buying this one, check out the BEST OF MECO disc, which has virtually all of this one plus a whole lot more. I dig this disc, but I wish I had bought the Best Of disc for even more Meco!
