Absolutely breath taking,
By Jenny (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Star Wars Poster Book (Hardcover)
This book is the most comprehenstive look at the various Star Wars poster that have ever existed. Many of them we are familair with, but some we have never seen. Such as a cheep version of the classic '77 poster found in theaters in the USSR.
The side comments about the posters by the authors are cute and add a sense of true fandom. The pictures are in such good detail that you can read the tiny print found on the posters themselves in the book. A must have for any diehard Star Wars fan. And for the Original Trilogy fans, they too will be delighted since 4/5 of the book focus on the Original Trilogy posters. *thumbs up*

The Star Wars Poster Bible - An Absolute Must Have!!!!!,
This review is from: The Star Wars Poster Book (Hardcover)
I dare you to search the internet and try to find every poster that is shown in this book. You won't find it. This book is that comprehensive and is going to be used as the definitive book on Star Wars poster collecting. It's already being used by dealers as the cite different descriptions in their eBay listings. If you collect Star Wars posters, this is not just a great book, this is a Must Have.
If the 300 pictures were not enough. The authors spent loads of time researching how and why these posters were created. All of the information has been collected first hand and most of it has never been told before. To top it off, the captions describing each poster goes into detail with some tidbit of information that you would have never known. These small details add volumes to the book's usefulness. Lastly, if you are trying to collect every known Star Wars poster, you'll be in for a treat. The authors collated a list of every poster that they know to exist. These aren't just US release posters. They have searched the globe for find every poster from every country that they could find. Nowhere else has such a list been tabulated. The authors also include a rarity index so you can determine if a poster dealer is telling you the truth, that you will never find this poster for sale again!!!

Comprehensive visual reference guide but incomplete.,

At last... a comprehensive visual compendium of the most celebrated artistic promotional film marketing campaign worldwide... almost. You would think that the opulent Mr. Sansweet would have in his possession every single poster to have ever rolled off the printing press for this unprecedented franchise but several of my favorite foreign one-sheets, daybills, banners and bus stop posters are notably missing. Does this mean that Mr. Sansweet has not aquired all of them in his envious collection of Star Wars memorabilia? Not likely. Chances are he has every single one of them... locked away somewhere within the bowels of his coveted archives. Most notably absent is the lack of reference material specifically promoting Revenge of the Sith and would seem to indicate that this book was completed and ready to be published just prior to the film's theatrical exhibition, but there is a plethora of wonderful international promotional material such as the six character U.K. bus stop posters that are much more visually exciting than the disappointing U.S. domestic ad campaign that demands to be published. This can only mean that another volume must be sure to follow. Still, there are enough international poster variations out there to keep collectors like myself and presumably Mr. Sansweet himself scouring the farthest reaches of the globe and the galaxy for years to come.

Ultimate Star Wars Poster Guide,
By
This review is from: The Star Wars Poster Book (Hardcover)
Being a Star Wars collector my eyes were opened wide after seeing this incredibly thorough exposure to the world of Star Wars art & posters. On first glance at this hobbie one thinks of the theatrical movie releases as the only realm of validity for this art form. After seeing this book you come to realize how expansive the art of Star Wars really is! I loved learning that Lucas is one of few modern film makers who insists on using original art for his posters in this digital age. This book is going to cost me alot of money. I had seen some of these rare images before but in very small pictures usually on the net. This is a large book with many illustrations being over 7"x10" in very clear & colorful images.

This review is from: The Star Wars Poster Book (Hardcover)
I'll be the first to call it the "Bible" for Star Wars movie posters and I certainly won't be the last.I gave up counting the times I said "wow" while turning the pages.I especially enjoyed the bootleg section as I feel it's about time this important information be put in writing for everyone to read.Mark my words this book will become legendary and will change the way Star Wars movie posters are bought and sold!

Not enough information; too much information,
By Dave The Rave (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Star Wars Poster Book (Hardcover)
While this book has a ton of Star Wars Posters listed, it's a book for the reader who is not familiar with poster collecting, or the highest level of Star Wars poster collecting. There is no inbetween. The book is basically a giant list with illustrations. But the list includes posters that are so obscure that it's almost not worth putting them in this book (Coca Cola and Burger King advertising posters come to mind.) There is also a few places where they just went overboard; there is one page where they have pictures of about 20 different posters, all from Episode I, all the same poster, just printed in different languages. I would have liked to have seen a little more detail on the things that matter more to collectors like how to spot a bootleg from an original, what the 77/21 means on the bottom right of the Star Wars 1 sheet, details on different poster printers and their posters (Kilian Enterprises for one), etc. I would also like to have seen more information on where to get posters other than "try the internet." Overall an OK book, it just lacks in certain areas of information.

I just got this book and I'm amazed! I remember seeing posters referenced in the book when I was growing up. I had a few myself.
If you're a big Star Wars fan, and looking for a reference book chock full of historical info on the Star Wars movies, this is a great book to have! There are posters shown from around the world, and many from the US. A very large (probably nearly complete) listing of other posters made over the years makes the rear of the book, it goes on for pages. I can't say enough about this book, it's amazing! The posters made for movie releases and merchandising play a large role in how Star Wars was promoted and it's fascinating looking through the pages. There's lot of footnotes and information about when these posters came out, where you could find them and much more.

There are SO many different posters in this book. There are so many different styles too! Abstract, paintings, puppets, photo manipulation, product ads, world-movie posters; it has everything! I love it. Oh. There's also little descriptions of each poster, however they're a little vague at times... that's the only issue I have with the book. Other than that. Great!
