Interactive movie games are nothing new. But this product's full studio production values set it apart from lesser interactive adventures that come out of the typical Hollywood-Silicon Valley convergence.
Passwords and user-defined skill levels ensure that all players can enjoy Rebel Assault II at a comfortable flying and combat level. Hard-core gamers who like the 3-D action of Dark Forces may scoff at the game's limited options. Likewise, veteran joystick jockeys will laugh at the fake flying, which follows a predetermined line and doesn't provide the kind of control you get in Origin's Wing Commander series.
Rebel Assault II's fine musical score, well-written script, and decent acting will be enough to satisfy those seeking a worthwhile multimedia "experience," but the limited gameplay will most likely send hard-core gamers running back to Tie Fighter. --Peter Scisco

Truly disappointing entry in the Star Wars game library,
By
This review is from: Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Given the popularity of "Star Wars" and scenarios read-made for video gaming, it's quite hard to create a "Star Wars" game that just leaves one flat. Alas, the makers of "Rebel Assault 2" have managed to achieve that dubious goal. This game can easily be played and then discarded without ever really having a desire to play it again. The missions that are presented are quite pedestrian in nature and do not tend to spark the imagination of the player. Yet, there are a couple of missions that are just unbelievably hard to beat and do not give the player any degrees of satisfaction when they are beaten. It is the lackluster gameplay and poor control that make those levels so tough, not any sort of in-board challenge. The Playstation version of this game is doubly irritating. It requires two CDs to play the entire game. Yet, it would seem that the quality of the game and the number of levels really only requires one CD. Furthermore, there are no extras of any kind that would justify this game being spread across two CDs. All in all, playing this game was a very disappointing experience. It is not recommended for anyone who really wants to immerse themselves in the "Star Wars" universe. Try the "Rogue Squadron" series on Nintendo for that.

These two games are excellent additions to the Star Wars Universe of games! It is a regular RPG that follows the storyline of Rookie One who, is considered to be a Luke Skywalker because Rookie One blows up the Death Star in Rebel Assault 1. It is fun to see a Luke-type POV and play as him.
