4.0 out of 5 stars Rebel Assault 2 is short, but fun while it lasts
Rebel Assault 2, the sequel to the extreamly popular origianal is here, so how does it fair up? Overall it fares up really well, but its ultimatly too short. Rebel Assault 2's plot is really interesting, with Rookie one trying to stop the Evil Empire from unleashing a wave of phantom ships that can attack and destroy at will without being spotted. This is of course...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun
A fun version of The star wars saga. A great side story you are involved in when you find yourself in the middle of a secret base from the Dark side of the force. All around fun game to play!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rebel Assault 2 is short, but fun while it lasts, September 24, 2001
This review is from: Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Rebel Assault 2, the sequel to the extreamly popular origianal is here, so how does it fair up? Overall it fares up really well, but its ultimatly too short. Rebel Assault 2's plot is really interesting, with Rookie one trying to stop the Evil Empire from unleashing a wave of phantom ships that can attack and destroy at will without being spotted. This is of course very bad and throughout your travels to stop this menace, you will fly through asteroid fields, zoom on a speeder bike through a forest, go on a really big star destroyer and infiltrate a secret base. The graphics are very good, although they are a little rough here and there. The full motion sequences are extreamly good, with fine voice acting. The music is also very good. My favorite part is all the hidden easter eggs hidden in the game, which include a willie coyote spoof, dancing stormtroopers and a hillarious Mystery science theater 3000 mode. However this game is too short, on easy mode, if you skip all the movies, you can beat it in less then 10 minutes. But its still a good game.

The good: Great plot, music, varitey, and graphics, hilarious easter eggs

The bad: Too short, gets really hard on difficulty levels, graphics can be choopy

And the ugly: Bad ending

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Classic Games together, July 10, 2001

cj the great (Woodinville, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
The two Rebel Assault games are just classics. Rebel Assault II is much better than the first (being a sequal), with all the hidden scenes, alternate endings, and other interesting things. There are cheats that you can find on the internet that i have never used but can come in handy. Most of the scenes are funny, and they form a story line in which you have to fight Darth Vader again. Some of the characters are copied directly from the Star Wars Movies.

I absolutely loved the Star Wars Movies (all four of them so far) and this game reflects their great genius. As Rookie One, you must stop the Imperial Menace, marked mainly by a new phantom space ship, able to turn invisible at will. There is so much to this game, and the graphics are ok.

Rebel Assault I is just a classic. With good graphics and sound for the time that it was built, it makes a good game to play in your spare time.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Star Wars Games ever!, June 15, 2001

This review is from: Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This game is great in so many ways that you can't possibally name them all in one review. First, The Graphics are great Second, the voice acting is okay. Last, it has no replay value. The game is basicly a series of movie scenes that look like they were from a movie (To the people who think the game is just footage from the movie: It's not). In the game you get very little choice on what to do. Basicly, there are space battles, piloting missions (fly through the valley and don't die) and run-and-gun battles. In the land missions you basicly watch a movie scene of storm troopers coming at you and you have to aim and shoot them from a hiding spot that you can stay protected behind or go into danger in order to shoot the storm tropers with a button. You don't move but once you shoot enough storm troopers you advance to another hiding spot automaticly. In the flying levels you fly through a cave or valley or spaceship avoiding things (The walls). In the spaceship levels, you automaticly fly while ships fly at you. You must shoot them down before they hit you and raise you're damage. You can also nudge the ship a little bit with you're aimer to dodge asteroids or any kind of derbis that gets in you're way. In conclusion, buy Rebel Assult II. It is worth the 10 dollars that you spend.

4.0 out of 5 stars As much fun as I remember..., September 17, 2008

I picked up this game back in the '90's, and was blown away by the cinematics and gameplay. I remember how much fun it was to blow away Imperials, and then be rewarded with a cutscene showing Darth Vader choking someone. It brought back memories of the original trilogy, and I like how LucasArts deviated from the original trilogy to bring us a storyline that was original and compelling. I would say that the story is similar to that of Dark Forces, in which you are in the Star Wars Universe, but not directly in the main story of the movies. I like how you can play the story through, and it is just like being in a movie, with real people in the cinematics. To me, this is the best part of the game, when you actually get to be involved.

The game is short, but in my mind, the story sells it. The graphics are dated now, but the cinematics still blow away many of the other games that were made at the time, save Wing Commander 3 and 4. If you are an avid Star Wars fan, this is a must own game. If you are looking for complexity, this game isn't too hard, and you might be disappointed. If you are looking for the "cinematic game experience", this is the game for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, now this is a GOOD game!, May 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Note that I am reviewing REBEL ASSAULT, the original instead of the sequal: You start out as "Rookie One", a young pilot on his first mission against the Empire. I don't care if it's old, it's a good game. Now, even though you do not have too much control over the ships, as for scrolling, the many dimensions of the game drown that out. Also, another interesting note is Chapter 9: Stormtroopers. Now, this level is more unique than any of the others, as it's kind of a bridge between the primitive Star Wars games, and The more advanced shooters like Dark Forces. Also, If you watch the story sequences, note that the plot ties in with Star Wars: A new hope. Also, this game was made in a time that 3D was considered "Brand-new". You know it: The first thing you see in your local gaming store has this many dimensions: 3. Anyway, if you're looking for a good 3D game, but find no value with the Cash-Cow games of today, buy a classic like this. Now thanks, and enjoy the sequel too. =)

An okay game, but it's an odd storyline. With a wierd character named rookie 1. The ending levels are good and you destroy the empire's ability to make a device that could destroy the rebellion.
