5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Vehicle!!! Try the pencil trick to fix the legs!
The quick detach legs can easily be fixed with just 1 standard pencil. Take a pencil and cut 12 pieces of it the same length as the eraser. I used a hack saw to cut the pencil. Put one of the cut pieces into each shoulder and elbo joint on the legs. You put the pencil piece right in the middle of the 4-prong claw connector. Snap the leg parts back together. They...

3.0 out of 5 stars at-te can be fixed
I agree that this toy should have come out of the box in a play worthy condition, but it did not. For those who may have purchased this toy for a child, I would recommend watching the quick youtube video on fixing the legs. I was very frustrated when I pulled mine out of the box, and put it together, only to have the legs pop off at the slightest touch. The video shows...

They will be fairly hard to insert. They're not fully seated until you hear the "snap" of the 4-prong connector seating into the snap groove. That's it. You just saved your $100 toy and your child's dreams with a 5 cent pencil and 10 minutes of work.

My kids love this AT-TE. They load it up with troopers and battle the CIS with their AT-AP and my vintage 1980's AT-AT and AT-ST (which, if you remember, also didn't work so well out of the box). Now that your AT-TE is "fixed", they can rough house with it all they want. They can move the legs without them coming off. If you insert the supplied wheels into the vehicle's feet, the AT-TE will roll nicely on hard floors and rugs.

If your main gun turret keeps popping off, try cutting that pencil eraser in half and shove one peice under the two-prongs that hold it on. By the way, the ON/OFF switch is on the vehicle body right under the turret's seat (just in case you're still looking for it). Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars This a great toy., November 4, 2008

I am 31 and I have SIX of these AT-TE's and I LOVE them!

I got my first one at TRU at the Midnight Madness sale. I opened it right up and put it all together. Unfortunately, the legs DO fall off. It was designed to give way if it was dropped or if a child fell on it to prevent injuries and breakage.

I was frustrated that I couldn't get the legs to stay on, but after a few days researching the problem, I found a solution on the internet.

I bought 20' of 5/16" OD (OUTSIDE DIAMTER) clear rubber/vinyl tubing. Cut a short piece and wedge it into the prongs so that they latch onto the edges of the socket on the joints. Once you do this, the AT-TE will stand up and be SOLID AS A ROCK.

For the parents out there who haven't tried this, give it a shot. It cost me $3.69 for 20'. Even if you don't feel you should have to do this to fix a $100.00 toy that should have been done right the first time (I agree, but I also like fixing things and making them better), at least do it for your kids. You'll be their hero and they'll be really happy you did it. What have you got to lose?

It's a pretty neat toy once you apply this fix, and it's a cheap and easy fix, too. Any hardware store should have something like this.

Good luck and may the force be with you.

3.0 out of 5 stars at-te can be fixed, September 18, 2008

I agree that this toy should have come out of the box in a play worthy condition, but it did not. For those who may have purchased this toy for a child, I would recommend watching the quick youtube video on fixing the legs. I was very frustrated when I pulled mine out of the box, and put it together, only to have the legs pop off at the slightest touch. The video shows you how to buy just a simple bit of rubber pipe from any hardware store, 3/16ths interior diameter, 5/16 exterior diameter. You just place a small bit of the pipe in the socket, and snap the leg in. After that small fix you can pick the whole toy up by its legs, and shake it if you want to.
I think it is a fine line that Hasbro tried to walk with this toy, and they achieved an epic fail with it. They had to know most kids don't have $100 to spend on a toy, so they seemed to be going for a collector's market. But by going for collectors, it would make more sense to make the toy perfect, instead of flawed. I feel really bad for any kid who spent so much money on this thing, to have it be almost unplayable. But if you bought this toy, and can't return it, the plastic pipe fix is so easy to do, and very cheap. I bought a foot of the piping for .88 cents. So don't be to sad, or to disapointed.
I will be extra careful of what I buy in this price range from now on.

1.0 out of 5 stars AT-TE Tank a COMPLETE rip off!, August 19, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

I wish there was a way to give this toy LESS than one star. I'd give it a negative 100 star rating if I could, it is that horrible. Be warned now, save your hundred dollars to buy something that is actually WORTH the money and save yourself frustration, anger, and disappointment.

My son turned 10 years old on Sunday. He's been saving his hard earned allowance for a very long time (he gets only $[...] a month so I'm talking a looooooong time). He is a huge fan of Star Wars goodies and has collected a good number of items other than this one over the years. Imagine our extreme disappointment and sadness (especially his) when we finally took his saved allowance and birthday money to go out and buy this toy only to get it home and have it fall apart immediately! And I don't mean a little bit either, it's a hunk of junk!!!!

Hasbro should be ASHAMED to have marketed such a toy that obviously never went through any sort of quality testing what so ever. The hatch doors on this toy fly open at the slightest amount of play. And you want to hear the real kicker??? The legs of this toy that are supposed to make it the "walker" that it is CAN'T EVEN PROPERLY SUPPORT THE BODY WEIGHT OF THE TANK PART ITSELF. Yes, the legs fly off left and right and every which way at the lightest amount of pressure, sometimes with no pressure at all (this morning I walked past it and the middle leg fell right off).

Yes, we assembled it correctly. Yes, we reassembled it 18 different ways just to make sure. I looked online for any tips or tricks to make this total waste of $[...]+ more usable for my son. I came up with nothing.

Now I am faced with the decision of gluing the legs on permanently (not what I want to do, but my son realllly, really wants to play with this god-awful item) or drive it all the way back to the toy store (an hours drive in both directions = a entire evening after work shot needlessly) to get a refund that I hope above all else that they will give to us after they see this piece of junk toy.

Am I angry and upset? You bet I am. I even wrote a letter of complaint to Hasbro's online customer service department after messing with it trying to get it to stay together. I gave up after 2 hours and 40 minutes of trying. Did I hear a word back from Hasbro about my complaint? Anything at all? A useful tip? I type of glue to try (as if I should even have to resort to glue at all)? An apology to a very disappointed little boy??????

Nope. Nada. Nothing at all. Not even an acknowledgment of the complaint. And why should they care? After all they happily have my son's hard earned hundred bucks in their pockets. Why care about customer satisfaction and consumer relations now?

Do yourself a huge favor and skip this purchase. Spread the word: It's not even stable enough to sit on a collector's shelf. A slight breeze might knock the whole thing over! Legs and all.

My 6 year old boy loves this toy. As with all the other reviews the legs do not stay on. I took the advice of a prior reveiwer and cut up a pencil and put it in the leg joint and it worked awesome, no problems with the legs now and my son couldn't be happier with this toy. It really is cool, just make sure you do the pencil fix that the prior reviewer mentioned.

We purchased this item for our son for Christmas. We were very disappointed to find that the legs would not stay on. This is a known problem as others have posted. I did find a phone number on another post. Hasbro customer service - 800-327-8264. I called, they were very nice. They asked for the date code from the bottom of the walker. They took my information and I received a new full set of legs within a week. These work great and my son loves the toy!

I read the customer reviews and discussed them with my grandson who was turning 8. The reviews were not good but he wanted the [...] anyway. I gave it to him on his birthday so now he has had a few weeks to play with it and he loves it. It is big and I don't think it was actually meant to walk anywhere, it is more like a stationary base vehicle. It talks and the doors open and it has lots of storage space. Mathew is very happy with this Star Wars toy.

This was a must for my collection i was apprehensive at first because of the price and what i had read in other peoples reviews. but i finally decided to just go for it and see how it worked out and i have to say i am glad i did. detail is the best of any of the star wars line and for [...] i wouldn't expect anything less. i personally have never had any problems with the legs coming off the only time they did is when i purposely removed them when we had to move to a new apartment. i put them back on and have never had a problem with them. it has grown on me as well, at first the size almost put me off of it but then seeing that it was pretty much to scale with the rest of the vehicles and figures in my collection it has definitely become my favorite by far so if you are worried about what you may have read dont worry about it its worth every penny and besides that its just a bad @ss toy

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive....., March 6, 2009

I recieved this as a bday gift from my girlfriend. I won't reiterate the features and rave about it's size and features. Others have already done that. IMO, this is definitely one of the best Vehicle/playsets made for the line, topped only by the Millenium Falcon. I heard about the leg issue after the fact, but have not had any issues. Being that this is a newer one, it may have the new legs on it. Mine has been sitting on the floor for a few days and I have not found it toppled over due to a leg seperating. In fact, the only time one did come off, is when I stood up quickly, my leg asleep and my 200lbs came down at the base of one of the center legs and it popped off. I won't hold that against it.
That said, I think that while this is touted as a vehicle(it does have small wheels) it is certainly more of a playset(read play on and in and around). Much like the MF is. Like the MF, the sounds, lights, features and detail in this is great. Certainly, if you have the gimp legs with yours, contact Hasbro and they will send the replacements, and they should have no problem.

I read all the negative reviews and was skeptical after hearing how the legs fall off, but then I watched the youtube video demonstrating how easy it is to fix the issue. It literally took me longer to put the decals on the AT-TE than to fix the legs. I bought 2 feet of 5/16" Outer Diameter (3/16" inside diameter)clear vinyl tubing from Lowe's for 35 cents (in plumbing section). I cut short pieces and wedged them into the prongs of each leg so they properly latch onto the edges of the joint sockets. It is extremely stable and I even shook the AT-TE many times to test it; and the legs WILL NOT fall off. Bottom line, this is all my kid wanted for Christmas and for an extra 35 cents and 5 minutes time he'll never even know there was a problem. The Hasbro replacement parts sound fine, but for under the Christmas tree next week the vinyl tubing fix is the way to go. I would have scored solid 5's had it not been for taking this extra step for repair.
