THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE...,
By Red Sox (concord, mass) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
Rebel Strike is the third game of the great Rogue Squadren series. This one seems to be the best yet. Unlike the other two games, you are now able to fight utilizing vehicles, blasters and lightsabers. New Vehicles were also added such as the Tie Bomber, Tie Hunter, Jedi Starfighter and the list goes on! The replay value is unbelievable and the graphics breathtaking! Did I mention it also has multiplayer and co-op? IF anyone has written a review claimiing that Rogue Leader is better, there dead wrong as you can play all the missions of Rogue Leader in co-op! This is one of the best games for any console right now.

Rebel Strike is the third game in Factor 5/Lucasarts' Rogue Squadron series. It is an arcade flight shooter with tactical elements, and this installment mixes things up by including on-foot and vehicle missions.
I like how Factor 5 dared to be different this time around. You get to play as an AT-ST walker and direct Ewoks to trigger their traps on Endor. You also get to relive the famous speeder bike chase, and thanks to some truly stunning graphics this scene is just as cool as it was in the movie. In fact a lot of this game covers sequences that the previous installment, Rogue Leader, didn't cover. If you put the two games together you pretty much get a complete Star Wars Trilogy package. The flight missions are still top-notch. The Jedi Starfighter makes a cameo this time around, and you get to drop those cool seismic charges like in the movie. The on-foot missions though, are somewhat problematic. You can run around and blast Stormtroopers, but the controls feel a bit loose and the aiming reticle doesn't always latch onto the person you want to shoot at. Jumping can become a royal pain, especially in the Dagobah and Sail Barge missions. Overall these missions are playable, but their unrefined qualities make them too easy compared to the flight and vehicle missions, and they work mostly as a mild diversion. We also get a bunch of bonus content in Rebel Strike. ALL of Rogue Squadron is available in 2-player co-op mode, and I'm surprised Factor 5 managed to squeeze it all in. There are dvd bonuses like art galleries, a making-of, and even audio commentary. There's also the 80s Star Wars arcade games wrapped in a funky disco-themed menu. Overall while the on-foot missions have flaws, there's a ton of fun and value in the package that can't be overlooked. This is a must buy for Star Wars fans.

First. I have never liked Star Wars games, they are either to long and boring, they didn't feel like Star Wars, or are meant for dia hard gamers. I got this game as a gift from my brother who is the only person I know loves star wars games since the Nintendo games.
Boy I was in for a pleasant and unexpected surprise. This game is very good. And you really feel you are part of the trilogy. Locations are great, graphics are good 5 channel sound I liked. Best of all gameplay is great. Although the flying parts of the missions are kind of difficult to learn if you are not familiar with other Rogue Squadron games or ones that require flying, they are a lot of fun. I already finished the regular missions, but I feel the need to get the medals to unlock the bonus missions, which are five, I already got three and have played the first one. I like the fact that you want to play more even when the main story is finished, not like other games that you are in an urge to beat them just to know the ending and get it over with. I like the fact that you can play not only with luke, but with Han, Wedge, Chewie driving an Imperial Walker and that bring us to another cool part, you get to drive different kind of vehicles and fly different ships in some missions you can choose which you want to fly. If you are a beginner you will enjoy it and if there are missions which are too difficult you can enter a passcode for unlimited lives or to unlock the different features, but you can't unlock the bonus missions. If you are a medium level gamer you can be challenged to get as many medals as you can to unlock as many or all the bonus missions and if you are a hardcore gamer this game will certainly be a challenge to get better times and scores to get all the bonus missions and unlock space ships like The Millenium Falcon, Slave 1 and tie fighters to name some. When you finish the regular missions with or without medals you get a documentary and also the Empire Strikes Back arcade game. And if you finish the first bonus mission you unlock the Star Wars arcade game. Both of them are not artistic master pieces compared to modern day technology but if you grew in the 80's its may bring good memories of the primitive stages of home computing and video gaming. Last BUT NOT LEAST. You can enjoy cutscenes taken out of the three movies, during the start, checkpoints and completion of the missions. Sort like the ones from Lord of the Ring games, with the difference that they don't transition from live images to digital ones. But still if you are a Star Wars fan you will enjoy them. If you like Star Wars this is the best one I have ever seen or played, and if you are a gamer most probably you'll like this one. I almost forgot the foot part of the missions are not as bad as people tell in the reviews I have read, still it has some problems especially in right angle corners, since the camera angle doesn't change until you have turned, but they are cool to play specially the recuing of princess Leia from A new hope.

Craig's Review about this game.,

This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
Ok, this got this rating first because of the ground missions. I am going to be honest in the fact that they suck. Why would you want to play ground missions? Don't ask me. This Game would have gotten a better rating by my self as well as ign and gamespot. The only thing that kept this game down was the ground missions. If you can get passed the ground missions the flight missions are very cool. I have played a lot of star wars games and read books. Some of these missions are actually on other games. Or at least they deal with the same situations and are dealt with similar. The idea of switching between Wedge and Luke was very cool. The sound on this game was very good but the fact that it is on EVERY Star Wars game. The graphics aren't much different from the second game. The best addition to this game was the multiplayer function. Finally after all this time of hoping to play multiplayer it has come true. The only down fall to it is the same down fall of every multiplayer game and that is the screen is too small. But it is fun to blow up your friends or save your friends from certain destruction. If you are a hard core fan this is going to be a fun game. If this is the first time playing one of the Rogue Squadron you will have fun but remember the other games are just the same without two player and the stupid ground missions.

Yet Another Evil Empire to Destroy...,
This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
I must say, Star Wars on modern consoles is becoming more and more realistic. If you've seen the graphics in this latest release, you know what I'm talking about--they're drop-dead gorgeous. Every location is beautifully rendered without any slowdown, and the total-immersion feel of the Star Wars universe is reached perfectly.Factor 5 did their homework on this one, and improved on its Rogue Squadron forebears. Coming complete with multiple space- and planet-based missions, as well as an excellent two-player version of every level from Rogue Squadron II (with a bit of an increase in difficutly) and some DVD-like extras, this is the complete package for the Star Wars-d. One issue which comes up between the interesting music choices is the fact that missions based on the ground have difficult-to-control aspects like firing lasers which removes some of the fun. Granted, this is really not too bad in my experience, it could have been worked on a little more. The space battles, however, are better than ever, and following the Rebels more closely to the Trilogy scripts is a bonus for some fans (like myself). Besides, who doesn't like a little Star Wars Arcade circa 1989, eh? Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It's a sleeper hit, and despite some whining, (and a less-than-gigantic single player mode) this space-flight-and-third-person-shooter is bound to become a favorite for a quick fix of Star Warsiness.

Rebel Strike,

I think Rebel Strike is a great game overall. It's got good graphics, good sountracks, very good gameplay and takes you a little beyond the movies. It's a decent challenge, althought it's pretty straightforward, and since it has unlockable levels it's still challenging after you've beaten the game. And, of course, for all you lazy cheaters out there, it has plenty of cheats and glitches- especially unlockable ships.
These are my ratings for this game: Difficulty: 3/5- it's fairly challenging, though not exceptionally Strategy (puzzles and things like that): 1/5- this game is pretty straightforward Graphics: 4/5- great, smooth graphics Music: 5/5- this is an exceptional game as far as music goes, especially since it keeps true to the movies Longevity (how long you're going to want to play the game): 3/5- the normal levels go by pretty quickly, and after you unlock all the unlockable levels there's not much to do any more Multiplayer: 4/5- Great multiplayer with several modes you can challenge your friends in and lots of ships and levels to use Controls: 4/5- very good controls that are easy to use and use well Characters: 3/5- decent characters but not too many new ones Overall: 4/5- rebel strike is a great game overall and makes a great addition to any gamecube collection Pros: *Great graphics and music *Good levels and a good plot that stay true to the movies but take you beyond the movies for extra fun *Easy controls so you can make the best of your game *Great variety of different worlds and ships to play with in single and multuplayer *Great multiplayer with a good selection of ships, arenas and options so you can tweak the game to your liking Cons: *Straightforward gameplay lacking a good amount of puzzles and strategy *Fairly short gameplay *Not as challenging as many would hope It's a great game overall so try it out soon. Enjoy it like i did!

rebel strike,

First off, I was a huge fan of rouge squadron 1 and 2, and the first week it was out, I bought this game. I have to say I am greatly disappointed. The graphics have imporved, but nothing else has. The on foot missions are not well designed, and the camera angles are bad. The targeting system often locks on to enemies that are behind cover, instead of locking on to the enemy right in front of you, shooting you. The missions where you fly are only average... On the contrary, the multiplayer is very fun. You can play RS2 in cooperative, and there is also a versus mode. Overall this game is average, and I would rent it before you rush out and spend $50 on it.

Good Game, Good Value, Great Replayability...HORRIBLE On-Foot Missions!,

This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
This is a good game in the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series that builds upon the last game in just about every way...more vehicles, slightly better graphics, more missions, NEW MULTIPLAYER MODES, walker and speeder bike missions.
There's a couple downsides though. Most of the good missions that were in the movie were used up in the last game, and some of those are actually recycled in this game. The on foot missions are terrible and completely slow down the pacing of the game and ruin the overall polish that the game once had...all for the matter of trying to mix things up, but they should have stopped at the walker and speeder bike missions. the controls are akward and the camera system is worse. you can't see where you are going. Replay value is great with multiplayer and tons of unlockables including the orignal star wars arcade games. If multiplayer is important to you get this game...after all, it includes a multiplayer version of rebel strike II: rebel leader. I suppose for the price you really can't complain.

Half Good,
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
As a number of reviewers have mentioned, the foot missions are what bring this game down - way down! It would be one thing if the foot missions were separate from the flight missions - yet often the flight missions are interrupted (right in the middle of great battles!) with forced foot missions. Terrible! Who wants to land on Geonosis when you're having a great time in the asteroid belt?!Also - and this was true for the Clone Wars - the designers rush you through the missions way too fast. No time to enjoy the scenery or take on a good number of the enemy. They rush you so fast on Hoth it's ridiculous (so much for riding the Taun-Tauns). Why can't game designers get it through their heads that you don't have to rush the gamer all the time. Let us take in and appreciate your design work - and dogfight to our hearts' content! Looked forward to this game. Disappointed.

Could Have been so much better...,
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (Video Game)
I played the first Rogue Sqad. when it came out, and i loved it, the story was intense and the graphics were incredible for the time. So (years later) when the second one came out I bought it right away. I was amazed, that with the progression in AI, the emey ships would no longer fly in patterns and shoot, they would now break off and attack you, so would your wingmates, who were now 50% more effecent. However their was no story like the first one, with a few additions, it simply followed the movies. The third one (rebel strike) was much hyped, and even though the second one had dissopoinded me, I still bought it.
Lucas Arts put a lot of time into making the game look and sound good, so no problems there. The story on one hand followed the movies, and on the other hand it revealed a little more behind the secenes, and a side story kept you guessing. So y three stars? Rouge squadron had always been about flying fighters, in one and two, thats what you did. In three, they introduced runnning around on the ground which, I kid you not, takes up a good 75% of the single player game. On top of which, the levels are more cut scences than they are playing. And to make single player better they added AT-STs to the mix. Don't get me wrong, walkers are fun, but the main goal of rogue squadron is fighter craft. And you only get to use the walkers in two levels. The reason this game didn't get a Three star or two star, is because of Coop and Multyplayer, Which allow two players two play. This is all ship fights, and the AI is much smarter than in single player, For instance, If you open fire on a squad of ties, they will split up and try to get on your tail. On top of coop their are many differnet ways for multiplayer, such as Death Match, Walker duels, and speeder bike racing. So For Multiyplayer i give it a Replayabliity is also an issue, the game leaves you wanting more, (single player) and then when you play it agin it fails to satisfy. The single player tryed to blend fighters with ground, and did so very sloppy. The Camera angles when you on the ground are verry sloppy and you can't always see what you want to, All in all its an okay game, but if you want a game that does a better job try battlefront or battlefront 2 If you gona buy this game make sure you have somone to play it with, so that you get your money's worth. So heres the ratings. Sound 5 of 5 Grapics 5 of 5 Story 4 of 5 Single player 3 of 5 Multyplayer 5 of 5 Replayabilty ( single player) 3 of 5 Dispite its faults, its an okay game, just don't expect to spend a whole lot of time in an X-wing or any other fitgher for that matter.
