Class, is it possible that Star Wars + RPG = Greatest game ever made? Well, no. BUT I can tell you that the rules found in between these hardcovers IS the greatest rules for running in the SW universe. Since this review is being written about a book published in 1987 and the review is being written in 2003, after the two new movies and the *cough* HORRIBLE! *cough* D20 game, I think the makers were visionaries. I like the first book more than the second edition for one reason: movie stills from the GOOD (original) movies. Some of the rules need work, but otherwise, this is GREATNESS. BUY HERE FOR FEW DOLLARS, INSTEAD OF D20 FOR MANY DOLLARS.

This is the original version of the Star Wars Roleplaying published in 1987. The mechanics is the D6 system and it is the best Star Wars Roleplaying game ever, namely because of it's simplicity. The book covers mechanics, includes 2 start up adventures as well as story ideas for gamemasters and includes 24 character templates that are almost ready to play. If you are a Star Wars fan, again this is simply the best game and instead of finding the usual drawings, you get pictures from the films ! (episodes 4 through 6). The perfect companion would be the Star Wars Sourcebook, also published in 1987. Of course, if you wish for material tha covers the episodes 1 through 3, you won't find them, but with a little creativity, I'm sure anyone could create/adapt the info to fit that bill.

These rules are simple, and they are grand. This game perfectly captures the spirit of the original trilogy. At current prices, it is a steal. This version suits "seat of your pants" style players and GM's. If you just HAVE to have a rule for evrything, get one or the other version of the second edition. But this one has always been my favorite by far. The 2nd ed book does have some useful information about the SW galaxy, but these rules are so much more. . . elegant. They are from a more civilised age.
