Call me a nerd but there is nothing cooler than seeing your pet frog hanging out with yoda in the swamps of Dagobah. The little hut provides a great place for the frog to chill out, we have small kids so the frog escapes to the hut when there is too much going on outside his tank. There is a good amount of dry and wet area and the frog seems very content. The graphics combined with the molded land, hut and Yoda figure really does look fantastic, making it the best looking critter tank I've ever seen.
Big drawback... on top of the expense of the habitat you still have to pay shipping for a tadpole... I was a bit outraged by this as it wasn't made clear in the product description. We decided to hit the local pet store instead as it was cheaper than paying the shipping.

It's really just a plastic box with graphics taped on and a couple tank decorations. You still have to go out and buy the tadpoles, or get your "free" ones from them, but you have to pay shipping that costs as much as buying them at a fish store; then you have to get information on how to care for them and feed them, since it isn't included. I was disappointed. I had purchased it for a gift, but when I saw what it was, I was embarrassed to give it as a gift and kept it for my grandson.

Got this too for around half the normal price...not sure I'd like to pay any more for it TBH, just for the Dagobah theme...
Although I have not yet set this up with the tadpoles, I see no problems with it. Constructed well enough and a good design idea to show how they develop (from tadpoles swimming under the swamp to frogs climbing out and visiting Yoda and his house) Instructions and tips info are clear. Tadpoles can be purchased with an included order form for $7 each. I would imagine aquariums and pet stores would be better to purchase from....and cheaper!

I gave three of these frog habitats with two live tadpoles per habitat as Christmas gifts this year. After reading the other reviews concerning the tadpoles not ever sprouting legs, I purchased my tadpoles from another internet site. The habitats are very sturdy and look exactly as advertised. They were a big hit for the three boys who's ages ranged from 7 to 28.

I got this for the batch of tadpole eggs we scooped from the pond behind our house. I chose this tank over others because it has a larger water area and a gentle slope for the tadpoles to get onto the land. Oh, and because my kids are nuts about Star Wars.
It came with a neat-o pamphlet on swamp ecosystems and frog development. The construction is nice and sturdy, though the taped-on picture on the back had to be worked around when I scooped fresh water out of the pond. Also, Yoda's cave/house doesn't quite fit snugly into the floor base, so I worry that in the future some frogs will get stuck under the gap. Nice features: the ground is soft plastic and very rough in texture and a long shallow slope makes it easy for even tadpoles without legs to rest on the ledge. The large water area gives them much more area to swim around in than other tanks. It also stays well lit as half of it is exposed to light. Special advice: don't get the tadpoles they offer via mail order- their cost and mortality rate make them unwise. Instead get tadpoles from a local pond (or pet store), and get your water from there, too- it contains all the oxygen and algae they need to thrive (the instructions recommend bottled spring water as tap water often goes through softeners which add salt). We even pulled some weeds from the pond to put in the water, and we watch them strip-feeding tiny algae off them. Getting them from a local pond is also smart because when you are done, you can set them free and know they belong in that ecosystem. As with fish, change out 1/3-1/2 of the water every week or so.

This "toy" is one of the best I have seen for the tadpoles which will turn into frogs BECAUSE the top part is slightly tilted so that the frogs can easily enter dry land. I get tadpoles every year, for the neighborhood kids as well as my own, to watch so I have had a few different types of tanks. This one I am very pleased with... The star wars theme adds such a fun touch for the kids and has a hide out for the frogs as well. I feel you can buy this with confidence it will bring your loved one hours of fun as well as a lesson in science. I usually find my own tadpoles but I sent away for the tadpoles (coupon included, you pay for shipping) I have not received them yet. So I can't report on that part.

After making much of how they would only ship tadpoles during safe weather conditions, the tadpoles were shipped during a major regional heat wave (July 2010 in the northeast), and the poor things must have gotten cooked in transit - one was DOA, the other one only lolled on its side twitching every now and then, and was dead the next morning. Sent multiple e-mails to Uncle Milton, all of which received useless automatic replies. Never a human response, never a phone# to call, no opportunity to either get the tadpoles replaced or to tell them they'd made a pretty poor shipping choice.
Wretched animal husbandry plus utter lack of anything resembling customer service rates Uncle Milton one star. Wish I could give them zero.

Got this for my 5 yr old son for Easter. We went out and bought 2 tadpoles and food at a local pet shop. (Cost us $6 for everything) We were able to immediately add the tadpoles to the habitat since we had room temp bottled water already in there. It is pretty easy to maintain the habitat. Clean the tank once a week, adding all new fresh room temp bottled water. The tadpoles seem pretty happy in there. My kids (ages 5 and 2) love watching them grow. One of our tadpoles is growing legs now. Very interesting! Very educational for my son. We love it!

after spending $26 for a plastic tank with a picture taped on the back, you must spend an addition $14 for two tadpoles.
They tell you to expect "shipping shock" meaning they swim erratically or don't swim at all for up to three days. One of ours never recovered, in other words, this has been a lesson in death for my 6 year old. You are better off catching tadpoles in a local stream or buying from a pet store.

I'm going to put this simply: Frogs need room, to hop & to be frogs! They need AT LEAST A 20 GALLON TANK w/ better substrate than just plastic... and this kit sets you up for failure w/ tadpoles. Tadpoles are fragile & need better care! This is not how you care for live animals!
