Telescoping lightsaber?,

This review is from: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Anakin Skywalker Outland Peasant Disguise w/Removable Poncho, Blaster & Storage Container (Toy)
Alright, the sculpt is pretty cool. It looks like the actor who'll play Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones, and the pattern in his shirt is pretty detailed. Then the poncho that's actually like PVC material has the folds and over-all look of real cloth (though scaled down to size). But where this one falls a little short is where the Obi Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu figures excel - the lightsaber. The very first Star Wars figures ever made had flimsy little lightsabers that telescoped out of the figure's right arm. Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, they all had a lightsaber that could slide up into their arm. It didn't work. So why go back to the technology now, in the days of the absolutely awesome metal lightsaber hilts with removable beams? The other accessories aren't so bad. The gun (blaster) is a little odd looking, but that's the fault of the questionable design work of the prequels, not the toy. A cool feature is a little storage box in which you can put the gun. On the box is a locking mechanism that involves a tiny hunk of metal that, when near the magnet in Anakin's left hand, unlocks to send the lid of the box springing open. The gun itself has some metal in the handle to interact with Anakin's magnet, but it's not nearly as impressive as they'd like it to be (oh wow, Anakin can use "The Force" to pull a gun a sixth of an inch through the air into his hand!).To sum it up, I'd say this figure's for the completist. The telescoping lightsaber interferes with the sculpt (Anakin's arm having to stick out completely straight, not the mention the bulky saber hilt), and, fully extended, the saber itself is none too impressive. Kid OR adult would probably be best advised to hold out for the other yet-to-be-released Anakin figure with the cooler metal lightsabers (yes, plural, the other one has TWO!). Not bad, but there's better in the line.

This one looks a lot like Hayden Christensen, and even though the Hangar Duel figure is better, this one is still a good quality action figure. The "Outland Peasant Disguise" consists of a poncho that you can put on Anakin, and he also comes with a box you can open by moving his hand over it. I don't remember seeing anything like that in the film, but it makes a good accessory. The small gun that comes with the package is attracted to his hand with a magnet. This proves to be somewhat impractical, but overall, this one is a nice addition to the ever-growing STAR WARS action figures.

This figure is pretty cool! It comes with a blaster the lightsaber and that box. It is cool cuz it can use the force. It's sculpting is great the poncho looks pretty real and the force abillity is awesome. Other toys you should get are Jango Fett, Clone Troopers, Super Battle droid, Count Tyrannus etc.

Wow! I was expecting little fun from this toy, but I was wrong. This is a great action figure. Anakin Hangar Duel has little likeness to the actor. But this Ani has wonderful likeness. I play with this neat little toy everyday. My only complaint is that the lightsaber isn't removable. If it was, I would've given it 5 stars. Oh well! If you are looking for a new Anakin figure for your collection buy this!

Ah a flashback to 25 years ago when I got my first Luke skywalker figure. The light saber up the sleeve worked better back then because we were not expecting as much and toys were not as sophisticated. My three year old son enjoys the figure (without the cape and the gun) because he can use the lightsaber. I would have preferred (for my collection) the seperate saber. The detail in the face and the clothing is excellent. The box works fine for my son and when I tried the force action out on the gun it seemed to work ok. For us older kids, I would wait for a better version of Anakin.

This was my first AOTC figure, and I think it needs some work. First off, I removed it and tried the "Force" action with him opening a box and the blaster rise into his hand and was disappointed. I got it to work ONCE, and then the blaster got lost in the box. I hate the way he's holding his lightsaber because he can't fight with it. He just holds it. The handle is molded to his hand to allow the blade to extend from his arm and then through the handle. The poncho allows no movement at all. It also looks nothing like Hayden. I ended up packaging this one up and exchanging it (to my BIG SURPRISE) for Hangar Duel Anakin Skywalker!! ...

I duno, but does anyone recall Anakin opening a box and taking out a gun? I don't. Did i miss that part? This figure is not as bad as those people ...say it is. The lightsaber is awesome, and the hilt is a little bulky but thats fine. The poncho and the box are pointless. ... the poncho would be good if it was cloth, but its plastic so he can't move in it. It doesnt really look like Hayden Christenson, and it seems small like Obi Wan Coruscant Chase. wait for a cooler anakin to come out |
