Please guys you all need to actually play the game through before you review. You must look at all aspects of this solid fighter. This is game is great with stunning graphics and great gameplay and in depth missions. The added two player is also great (with many modes of play). This is a true XBOX game and should/will be a flagship game. So if you want a XBOX but can't decide on a game to go with it go with this or DOA3.

Forget Rogue Squadron 2!,

Well, don't forget it - Rogue is excellent, but let's just say you will be more impressed with the XBOX/LUCAS standards that surround Starfighter. In addition, it's not all about the graphics, it is a tight game that keeps you on your toes. Challenging, yet lighter than previous, so virtually anyone can mater the controls within a few games. I would recommend this for a holiday present for males ages 9 and up...or if you are a Star Wars fan - this is good game to add to your new collection on XBOX

The graphics are great, but they do show that they are ported and not developed for the X-Box. The sound is outstanding, the gameplay is GREAT, and that Mission 14, I could thrown that disk if it had taken me any longer to get through it. I swear, that thing was impossible. I still cannot say exactly how I beat it, but I did [...]. What a great game to go along with some of the great games on PC, such as Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Now, on to Obi-Wan!

Incredible graphics in a fantastic space combat,
This review is from: Star Wars Starfighter Special Edition (Video Game)
I was always a huge Wing Commander fan. I watched as the graphics moved from blocky pixels to slightly less blocky shapes, to ships that you could actually see emblems on. This latest Star Wars space combat is the best I've seen yet! This Special Edition starts with the regular Starfighter title (available on other platforms) and adds in extra levels and tons of multiplayer features! To start with, there are three different characters you play, each in his or her own style of ship. Rhys is a Nabooian cadet with a little quick fighter, with limited torpedoes. Vana is a mercenary - her ship can tag enemies and then blast them. Nym is the alien, and he's got bombs on his, great for blasting capital ships. You take these three different ships on a series of missions, both on planet and in space. You dodge through asteroid belts, zip along narrow canyons, defend bases and blow apart the bases of your enemies. There's tons of fun dogfighting, trying to blow up ships both large and small. The missions make sense, and your wingmen obey commands with reasonable AI. The graphics are beautiful! There are rivers snaking through green valleys. Desolate planets with mining operations. Giant asteroid fields that you have to dodge through. The ships each look and act differently, but are generally similar enough that it's not a huge chore to switch amongst them as you go through missions. Even after you finish the missions, the multi-play is immensely fun. Grab some friends and play one of their various game types they have available. Just wait until broadband comes!

Pretty Star Wars sim, but somehow stale!,

So the game has everything it needs, good graphics, a reasonable story and the traditional lucas sounds and music. All this should make for a Star Wars flight fest yet oddly it doesn't. Perhaps it is the pacing of the game, the control system or the lack of familiarity with the characters that does it, but playing the game feels more like something you have to do than something you really want to. Of course you will continue playing the game in the hope that things get better later in the game.Better than the PS2 versions - certainly, but while this is a must for Star Wars fans, it is probably better rented for everyone else. Lets hope that Jedi Starfighter is better!

This is a awesome game! Its got great graphics and good story line. You almost feel like you are in a Star Wars movie because of the cut seens. I played Rogue Squadron 2 also, Starfighter is better. When you [engage] enemy aircraft they go down in different ways such as blowing up, break apart or going down smoking/in flames. In RS2 all they do is blow up.Bottom line great game. If you like Star Wars you better get this one.

LucasArts has cleaned up the graphics and upped the framerate of this game to 60fps, making it a huge leap over the PS2 version. However, one thing gamers may dislike is that this game does not focus on the "classic" space fighters you may be used to like the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, etc. If you can get around that, you will have great fun with this title.

This is a Star Wars game that originally came out near the launch of the PS2, and was later ported to Xbox as a 'special edition' package. I just recently, finally picked up an xbox, and being a Star Wars fan decided to give this one a spin.
This is a solid and playable game, but in hindsight it's nothing special. Some Star Wars games have been outstanding (Jedi Knight, Knights of the Old Republic), some have been dirt poor (Obi-Wan), and others have tried hard without quite hitting the mark (Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter). Starfighter kinda falls on the lower end of that last category. Graphics are very first-generation circa 2001, getting the job done without blowing you away. The story weaves together three separate characters and their ships and ties into Episode I, but it just doesn't becoming involving. The gameplay is based off the Rogue Squadron series developed by Factor 5, a mix of arcade and flight-sim where you destroy stuff and protect targets in the Star Wars universe. Only there's not a lot of innovation from Rogue Squadron, and it feels like more of the same from levels you played during the N64 era. Starfighter feels like a 'safe' product for Lucasarts, a game they could churn out with a proven formula in-between bigger projects. It's worth picking up for any Star Wars fans looking to complete their collection, but everyone else should pass.

One of the best games on the XBOX,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Star Wars Starfighter Special Edition (Video Game)
Recently I have purchased Star Wars Star Fighter Special Edition and it is a fun, yet challenging game packed with intense action and gripping gameplay. The graphics are the best I have seen yet on the XBOX. The sound is wonderful including everything from explosions to voice-overs. I also like the way the game packed all the buttons on the game controller into action and they all do something. The multi-player add-on is outstanding and great fun to play with your friends using the normal split screen function. What I like about this game is the way it keeps you involved in all the action around you and actually makes you feel like you're in a real space battle! What I don't like about this game is the unoriginal story that follows through the game that I don't understand and the tightness of each level for example: on the first level (training level) you can only get so high and then it bounces you back down into the middle. A good fighting game should have tons of land that you can feel and explore but this doesn't. So if you're a real Star Wars fan and like fighting games I would suggest it and if you don't... buy something else.HARRY BLACK |
