The only packaging I've kept for my SW toys are these "retro" vintage style boxes. Especially for the price point I paid (seventy), I consider the box part of the purchase price. Well, at least it looks vintage... like it's been kicked around for 30+ years! Very disappointed Amazon! Shame on you! I would give this one star for Amazon's lack of effort. Toy itself I'm sure is great (haven't opened it yet).
I remember getting the old versions of Slave 1 back during the mid-1990s. They were great for the time, but in retrospect pretty poor quality. The ship was always too narrow and the proportions distorted.
It took 17 years, but we finally have a Slave 1 vehicle that looks just like the version Boba Fett drove in Empire Strikes Back. This is a beautiful ship. The base is based on the Clone Wars Jango Fett Slave 1, which was painted blue. This one is painted with ESB-accurate colors and even includes the detailed color patterns on the hull and a detailed control panel inside the cockpit.
My only complaint is the missile-firing guns. I hate when Hasbro adds these spring-launching missiles to vehicles. They look tacky and barely work. I've never met a single person who liked them, and I detested them when I was a kid. When you remove the missiles, the guns still look movie-accurate, but they should be there in the first place.
I've seen a lot of complaints about the value and price. I think we're all going to have to accept that prices have gone up. It's nice to see that, unlike with the figure line, quality has also gone up. The price isn't great, but it's acceptable and well worth it for fans of Fett.
Definitely recommended. After this ship, I don't think Hasbro will ever need to make another Slave 1 again.
UPDATE: Some fans are upset about the packaging being damaged. Honestly, I don't care about the packaging, so I didn't mention it. But, unfortunately, Amazon shipped this without a box so if you want a pristine package you probably won't get it. Major faux pas on Amazon's part, but again it didn't really affect my enjoyment of it. Some people have said if you order it "as a gift" Amazon will take greater care in the packaging.
For the price of this item, I shouldn't have to worry about whether or not the box arrives damaged, or even whether I'm getting the whole toy when I open that box up! Despite all the problems I've heard, I thought I'd tempt fate and order this piece anyway. When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised the box showed no signs of damage at all! But I still had to check the insides.
Once opened up, I noticed that there was a loose piece rattling around the box, I didn't think anything of it of course, I simply set it aside (it was one of the "seats" with the clip to hold a figure for the cockpit) and began to unload the rest of the pieces, making sure all was included. Bombs were there, Han Solo in Carbonite was there, wings were correct, etc.
It seemed like I'd dodged a bullet, which I was more than happy about, as the size of this thing really had impressed me. And putting it together, it really showed off how nice a vehicle this can be. But alas, after checking an online review to compare the wing function (it'll lock into place if you grip the wings closest to the body of the ship and twist till you hear a "click"), I came to realize that the cockpit was meant to have 3 "seat" headrests, and mine, only had one. The one that had been loose in the box, well, the second piece was nowhere to be seen.
And that dropped the score on this thing for me, right there. It's amazing looking, but man, nobody should spend $70 on this and leave whether or not they're getting a complete item to a crap shoot. This is something that should have been fixed, absolutely fixed sometime between the many "under reviews" this item has had by Amazon. At the VERY least, offer up the replacement parts!Read more ›
The toy itself is pretty awesome. I had only seen pictures of the initial Toys R Us release and I didn't love the proportions, thinking they looked too "cartoony" but once the ship is in hand it is really pretty perfect. It's also a lot bigger than it looks in pictures, too. The paint on it is surprisingly detailed with several paint passes on the hull to make it look rusty and scuffed. Really pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks. The only area that could have used a little more paint detail is the rear, but that is probably nitpicky.
The sculpt is absolutely the star of the show, though. Lots of panels, vents, and tubes are sculpted right into the ship. I remember when I was a little guy and all those detail were merely decals. A great example of the sculpt is around the wing "ports." And while it lacked in the paint decoration, the back sculpt is really beautiful.
It is also worth mentioning that mine was shipped to me in both a regular brown cardboard shipping box as well as a white mailer box encasing the Vintage collection box. And this is the second one shipped to me like that...
Oh yea, about that... Here is my one complaint about the toy. I received my first one a couple of weeks ago. After I pulled it apart, I realized it was missing a minor part. The wings are divided into three pieces. I was missing an upper wing piece on one side. I understand it happens. I wasn't angry at all. I called Hasbro to see if I could just get the missing part sent. No big deal, right? They're the manufacturer. Surprise! The part wasn't available. Wait, what?Read more ›

Great product. A bit overpriced for its simplicity but that is common with Star Wars products.

A great piece. However, the cockpit doesn't snap shut too well and the wings don't stay on too well. But, it's going on display so it doesn't matter for me. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Garrett Beckvermit
This is a larger scale than the previous mold putting it more into correct scale. The paint application is well done.Published 12 months ago by James D. Anderson
