I'm just going to write a quick review because... WOW, I can't believe this. I hope you guys who like MIMB, or at least nice looking packaging, order some stuff along with the Slave I so that it *hopefully* gets tossed into a larger shipping box. I preordered just the Slave I, and Amazon shipped it out without any other packaging around it! Mind you, I'm going to open this and display it, but I WOULD HAVE liked a nice condition box to keep!

The only packaging I've kept for my SW toys are these "retro" vintage style boxes. Especially for the price point I paid (seventy), I consider the box part of the purchase price. Well, at least it looks vintage... like it's been kicked around for 30+ years! Very disappointed Amazon! Shame on you! I would give this one star for Amazon's lack of effort. Toy itself I'm sure is great (haven't opened it yet).

UPDATE: Apparently, some of the wings on the Slave 1 ship don't lock appropriately in flight mode. There's a pretty simple fix. I posted a link in the comments section.

I remember getting the old versions of Slave 1 back during the mid-1990s. They were great for the time, but in retrospect pretty poor quality. The ship was always too narrow and the proportions distorted.

It took 17 years, but we finally have a Slave 1 vehicle that looks just like the version Boba Fett drove in Empire Strikes Back. This is a beautiful ship. The base is based on the Clone Wars Jango Fett Slave 1, which was painted blue. This one is painted with ESB-accurate colors and even includes the detailed color patterns on the hull and a detailed control panel inside the cockpit.

My only complaint is the missile-firing guns. I hate when Hasbro adds these spring-launching missiles to vehicles. They look tacky and barely work. I've never met a single person who liked them, and I detested them when I was a kid. When you remove the missiles, the guns still look movie-accurate, but they should be there in the first place.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the value and price. I think we're all going to have to accept that prices have gone up. It's nice to see that, unlike with the figure line, quality has also gone up. The price isn't great, but it's acceptable and well worth it for fans of Fett.

Definitely recommended. After this ship, I don't think Hasbro will ever need to make another Slave 1 again.

UPDATE: Some fans are upset about the packaging being damaged. Honestly, I don't care about the packaging, so I didn't mention it. But, unfortunately, Amazon shipped this without a box so if you want a pristine package you probably won't get it. Major faux pas on Amazon's part, but again it didn't really affect my enjoyment of it. Some people have said if you order it "as a gift" Amazon will take greater care in the packaging.

Inexcusable.

For the price of this item, I shouldn't have to worry about whether or not the box arrives damaged, or even whether I'm getting the whole toy when I open that box up! Despite all the problems I've heard, I thought I'd tempt fate and order this piece anyway. When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised the box showed no signs of damage at all! But I still had to check the insides.

Once opened up, I noticed that there was a loose piece rattling around the box, I didn't think anything of it of course, I simply set it aside (it was one of the "seats" with the clip to hold a figure for the cockpit) and began to unload the rest of the pieces, making sure all was included. Bombs were there, Han Solo in Carbonite was there, wings were correct, etc.

It seemed like I'd dodged a bullet, which I was more than happy about, as the size of this thing really had impressed me. And putting it together, it really showed off how nice a vehicle this can be. But alas, after checking an online review to compare the wing function (it'll lock into place if you grip the wings closest to the body of the ship and twist till you hear a "click"), I came to realize that the cockpit was meant to have 3 "seat" headrests, and mine, only had one. The one that had been loose in the box, well, the second piece was nowhere to be seen.

And that dropped the score on this thing for me, right there. It's amazing looking, but man, nobody should spend $70 on this and leave whether or not they're getting a complete item to a crap shoot. This is something that should have been fixed, absolutely fixed sometime between the many "under reviews" this item has had by Amazon. At the VERY least, offer up the replacement parts!

The Toy is great. Wonderful retro feel, small issue with the spring can be fixed when I have time, no problem. Came in white Hasbro box no outer shipping box, some damage to carton affect small corner on item box. Would have like to have had avoided that. Toy easy to put together goes great with the rest of the collection

Ship is amazing!Huge and well made. I do think the color of it could have been made a little bit darker.

Item was shipped with out a shipping box as seen in the additional pics. I can't believe Amazon or anyone for that matter would send a product like this with out a box.

Awesome ship. And a huge fail to Amazon for piss poor shipping. 1st time something like this has happened. But looks like they've pulled the product to review why it's being shipped like this.

UPDATE:

Amazon gave me a price adjustment. They had also sent me an email about having received a potentially damaged item. Which was a very pro-active step for a company to take.
Amazon handled and resolved this shipping issue in a very fast and professional manner. A+ to Amazon for fixing the problem quickly.

as far as the wings not locking. I thought the same thing. I just had to turn them a little harder and they locked just fine. You'll hear the click!

UPDATE #2:

Just realized Amazon removed all the photos of the damaged boxes, that people had posted.
