More About the Author

I'm the author of The Jupiter Pirates series, published by HarperCollins. In the first book, Hunt for the Hydra, we meet Tycho, Yana and Carlo Hashoone. They're crewers above the privateer Shadow Comet, siblings and competitors. Each wants to be the next captain of their family's starship -- but only one of them will be chosen.

The Jupiter Pirates is part high-seas adventure and part space-age epic -- I've had a blast writing the series and can't wait to share it with people. Officially the Jupiter Pirates books are for kids 8-12, but readers far older than that will enjoy them too.

As for me, I'm a writer, editor, and occasional journalism consultant based in Brooklyn, N.Y, where I live with my wife Emily, my son Joshua and about a metric ton of baseball cards and Star Wars stuff. I've written more than two dozen Star Wars books and short stories for publishers including Random House, DK, Scholastic and Disney Books. Before striking out on my own as an independent writer, I spent more than 12 years at The Wall Street Journal Online, where I wrote the Real Time column about technology and co-wrote The Daily Fix, a daily roundup of great sportswriting. I co-write Faith and Fear in Flushing (www.faithandfearinflushing.com), a blog about the New York Mets, with my friend Greg Prince.

If that seems like an odd mix, well, I think so too. But one way or another, I've written or worked with writers nearly all my life. It's all I ever wanted to do, and I'm profoundly grateful that I've been able to do it.

Whether you're writing about a far-off galaxy, a nearby baseball team or the promise of technology, the path to becoming a successful writer is the same: Write every day, learn from other writers and from good editors, push your writing to make sure it's as clear and engaging as possible, and value every form of writing you get to do. And be nice.

"The Complete Saga" is a summary of the Star Wars story. As the title indicates, it begins with Episode I - "The Phantom Menace" and finishes with Anakin Skywalker's redemption in part VI - "Return of the Jedi." Spanning ninety-six pages, each page features two to four images from the silver screen. The images show George Lucas' most recent revisions like Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in the "The Empire Strikes Back" and Hayden Christensen as Anakin during the Ewok celebration. The text contained within accompanying side panels explains how a given image moves the story forward. Each chapter even begins with an abbreviated version of the film's opening crawl. It's a beautiful book that makes for a fantastic visual experience. The layout is interesting and reads like a comic book. The large sized book (10.1 x 11.6 x 0.3) is printed on good quality paper and the image resolution is high. The writing is appropriate for most fourth grade readers and up. Given the large amount of real estate given to the illustrations, the text is brief. Compared to movies, books generally offer an opportunity to delve deeper into a story's characters and plot. In contrast, "The Complete Saga" offers a surface overview that lacks the poetry of the films. Indeed, this could be thought of as the CliffsNotes version of the saga. This shouldn't necessarily be thought of as a drawback; the book is successful in offering a fast-paced visual summary of all six Star Wars films. Padawan readers are sure to enjoy "The Complete Saga."

Beautiful book summarizing all six episodes. If you are worried about any young SW fan seeing the darker Episode 3, this is a great summary without the movie. Any Star Wars fan would be thrilled to have this in their collection.

This is a great book at a great price since it has all the characters from all 6 movies. I'm sending it to my two grandchildren (6, 8) since they have just seen all the movies. Their Dad will have to read it to them since they are out of the country. Also, I wouldn't be able to pronounce all the names. At this point I can't report whether the grandchildren like it. It hasn't been mailed yet. But I'm sure they will!!! They love everything pertaining to Star Wars!!!

Bought this for my 5yro who is obsessed with Star Wars. The writing is a bit clumsy at points, but he doesn't care. He loves looking through the book from start to finish - the pictures tell the stories. He has seen the movies, so I'm not sure if the photos alone would be enough for someone new to the stories. It's a well made book and I would have paid a lot more than I did for it. ;).

My son is a huge fan of Star Wars and so am I. This hard bound book is perfect for his age. We have read it over and over and there has been little damage. We will definitely have this book around for a while. I would recommend this book for any kids that like Star Wars or kids that have learned to read.

My 7yo loves Star Wars, but has not seen all of the movies yet. He has lots of themed toys and other books, but nothing that put the whole narrative together for him in order like this book does. The book is a large size and has great still photos from all the movies.
