Great Model kit of the classic Y-Wing,

This review is from: Star Wars Y-Wing Fighter Model Kit (Toy)
Initially, I was quite surprised at how small the model kit itself is compared to the fairly large box that it came in. A lot of the box was simpley open space, so don't be decieved into thinking it's a big model.I don't know what scale this model's in, but I have some private doubts about it being in the same scale as Revell's X-Wing starfighter since the Astro Droid and Rebel Pilot figures are both smaller than the X-Wing's. The Y-Wing itself it exactly the same length as the X-Wing, from blaster tip to rear thruster cages. It measures around 8.5 inches long. (Honesly, I thought the Y-Wing would be a little longer and bigger compared to the X-Wing, but at least it isn't any smaller than it's famous counterpart.) As far as the model itself goes, it's a simple build, and since it is a Level 1 Beginner model, no paint, glue, or any other toxic chemicals are needed to complete the model right out of the box. Just snap and go. However, it looks rather bland without some black lining to go in the crevices. There's a whole world of detail on this thing, but you need to put in some time and effort to bring them out with a lining marker or paint. Another slight quirk I have with it (which really isn't the model's fault) is that there haven't been any incarnations of the Y-Wing with it's hull plates still attached. Therefore, after it's fully lined, there's so much complicated detail that it looks a little off next to the less intricate X-Wing. The rear thrusters could also use a little painting. The opening cockpit hatch is a nice little gimmick that Revell was kind enough to include, but after assembly, it's too tight, and you can barely open it. Therefore, to remedy this, I suggest cutting off the peg that locks it in place. This way, it's easy to open, and despite the loss of the peg, it doesn't fall open due to friction holding it together. The turret on the top of the cockpit can also rotate. A small Astromech Droid (not an R2 Unit) is included with the model, along with a Rebel Pilot that can fit snugly into the cockpit. (Although the Droid is nice, the pilot is not; he looks like a small blob of plastic and paint sloshed together to look like a Rebel, so I suggest just leaving him out of the cockpit completely.) My only complaint with this kit is that it doesn't come with a display stand, landing gear, or any sort of hard point attachment to make it do more than sit on your table. Of course, I have plenty of action bases to choose from to get this ship up in the air, but some may find it frustrating that it doesn't come with any equipment to make it airborne. (The entire model is actually very well balanced, so when you're putting it on a stand, you don't need to worry about the front being heavier than the back or anything.) Overall, awesome model, and I defenetly reccomend it to any Star Wars enthusiest, especially someone familar with touching up plastic model kits.

I just got this toys and I`m so glad.I would say this toys is remind me when I was little.I used to have Tie fighter and X-wing back in late 70`s and I still have it.I remember I asked my parent to get the Y-wing for Christmas but it didn`t happen because of money.I finally have this and I thought this toys will look different and bad according from previous review. But,I really like it.The toys is not very authentic look but it is worth to collect it.I`m Star Wars fans basically I like the classic one and This toys is great to have it.

To Whom it may concern:I purchased a couple models from this outfit, and they have a nasty habit of not telling you it's a snaptite model. This is a big thing! Even though it is mostly snaptite, This company is fast in helping your customers as I found out recently. This is an honest company with good prices and fast and curtious service!!!! If anyone from the company reads this, please send me a list of all the models and sizes you carry/ Kem Deigal

I cant believe I spent $25 bucks on this flimsy thing. Not all the parts fit snug, so there are gaps in some places, and one of the long skinny pieces broke when I tried to snap it on. I thought it was going to be much bigger, (its about 9in long when built), I didn't read the specs, they are listed, so thats my bad. Don't waste you money and time on this one.
