5.0 out of 5 stars It does really work!
Was doubtful, had an outside building front that we just couldn't keep up with them sweeping etc. Sprayed this stuff heavily last summer could not have gotten better results given the natural setting, Buying more just to maintain through the spring and summer now.

I actually like spiders. They offer invaluable services to those who like to garden. When I find them in the house, I have no problem picking them up or letting them crawl onto me and then releasing them outside. But when they feed off me in the middle of the night - causing painful bite welts that last for several weeks - then they have to go. That's how I got to Spider Away. It's purportedly non-toxic and designed to repel spiders rather than cause them to suffer a miserable death. The first thing I did is take apart the bedroom, and everything in it, and then painstakingly vacuum everything and everywhere. I paid particular attention to where the walls meet the ceiling, and also, possible hideouts within the furniture. I found two spiders hiding in the recesses of the bed, and unfortunately for them, they were executed on the spot. Death was humanely administered by way of vacuum cleaner. Someone had to pay the price for those bites. I then sprayed the product all around the bedroom and in every location where they might gain entry. I sprayed where the walls meet the ceiling -- which is where many of them like to hang out and lay their eggs -- as well as at floor level and any place where they might hide. It's only been a month, but there's no evidence of any new spiders. It's December right now, which is not exactly spider season around here. Next August or September, I'll try to provide an update as to how the product did through the summer.

My biggest complaint (so far) is that before purchasing the product, I wrote the company and asked them what substance they were using as a repellent. I wanted to know that before buying. They never responded. They also don't provide that information at their website. So for concealing that information from prospective buyers, they get three stars instead of something higher. For those of you who are wondering what they're using, it's peppermint oil. That's the only active ingredient listed on the bottle. It's 97.5% inert ingredients, and 2.5% peppermint oil. So if you have some peppermint oil lying around, you might be able to get by with that. One concern I had is that after using the product, the bedroom would reek of peppermint. So I used it very sparingly at first. As it turns out, it's pretty much odorless. It has a very slight scent of peppermint when first sprayed. Moments later, I couldn't smell anything at all. So that hasn't been a problem.

To be fair, we tried using this product on our sailboat that is kept in a marina filled with spiders. However, it did absolutely nothing, didn't even seem to slow them down. I don't know how it would work indoors but outdoors it is totally ineffective.

This really smells! It hasn't really kept the spiders away. It took a LONG time for the smell to go away. I only spray it on the dock and outside now. DONT spray it inside the boat or you will choke.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spider Away and Away, December 27, 2011

After reading various reviews I was apprehensive about the product but finally ordered some due to the high concentration of spiders around our entry doors, numerous widows and vinyl siding. We power washed the siding and windows to rid the dirt, spider webs and the many black spider droppings that covered the window sills, door ways, and decking (covered decks). We then lightly sprayed the corners, door and window sills with the Spider Away (outside the house)when all areas were dry. The product does have a mint smell as identified by other reviews but outside it is a refreshing scent and you can tell the effective areas of application. Keeping in mind that we have a resort style home that is next to the woods with a lot of windows for watching wildlife which generates a lot of bugs at night from the lighting but we have had a 95% reduction of spider home making and almost no spider residue. It should be noted that we made a second application of the product in 10 days and then the next one in 30 days. An additional note is that even some of the night time bugs have been slightly reduced seemingly as a side benefit. We loaned some to neighbor who sprayed some around his fishing boat dock and he has seen a reduction in his spider activity even though there are other docks around his. It worked for us - maybe it can work for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boat use is different from Home use, September 13, 2011
This review is from: Star brite Spider Away Natural Spider Repellent, 22 oz (Lawn & Patio)
I am arachnophobic, but I don't take my problem out on the spiders. (Unless they bite me, then it's self defense.)

As I sprayed the bridge of our boat some of the fumes must have traveled to the bow of the boat tied behind us. That boat had a HUGE spider in a web on the bow for 2 days, until after I sprayed our bridge. It was there when I arrived that day and was gone when I finished spraying. The spiders left their web and eggs and came out of places I didn't even see them. However, it didn't prevent new spiders from moving in once the fumes were gone. Not as many moved in after I sprayed, only 3 new webs vs. the dozen or more who usually move in over night. I think it will work better when we can enclose the bridge so the fumes stick around instead of just blowing away so quickly.

Living in a log cabin in the woods, I also get spiders dangling from rafters and building webs between logs. Spraying in the house seems to have worked better than it did on the boat. After seeing what just a passing fume did for my neighbor's boat I realized it doesn't take much to make them vacate. I sprayed in sweeping motion to get the odor spread around without making the logs moist.

The scent is quite strong at first, but then quickly dissipates and is odorless to me. I let the dog out when first , then let her in just about 5 minutes later when the fumes had already settled.

this spray works well, but not one hundred percent. I have tons of spiders though, but I no longer have to clean daily the cobb webs, now its more like weekly, I do recommend the spray

Since I started using spider away around my front door and windows, spiders have disappeared. It is non toxic (which is great), although it does have a powerful smell, so using it indoors may be a nuisance. My only complaint is that it disappears rather quickly so I re apply every 3-4 days.

Felt as though it was a waste of money. The product didn't seem to work. The smell was so strong I could not spray in the house unless all the windows were open...(it's winter).
Would not purchase again.

Well, I kept spraying this one on and around the spiders but it didn't seem to effect them as it's stated on the container. Either they have become immune to the formula or the formula itself is just a hoax but so far my sneakers have killed more spiders than this thing...
