This signaling mirror is one of the best on the market. Many mirrors look similar, (w/ holes in the middle for sighting) but the star shapped aiming feature in the center works very well. It even works effectively at night with moonlight or other light sources! I have had others, but with this sighting system it is by far, the most effective. They even say it floats! If your buying a signal mirror in case of an emergency, get one that works good when you really need it.

As a former U. S. Coast Guard helicopter pilot, I guess you could say I can appreciate survival & rescue gear, and this is one piece of emergency equipment that you don't want to be without. Buy one. Make it so. Now.
It's always nice when things work as advertised, and the quality & build of this small signal mirror is excellent. The sighting "star" (where you aim through the mirror) is easy to view your signal target (e.g., an airplane, boat, ship, helicopter, or distant ground search or rescue unit), while the so-called "star flash" (the mirror's high-intensity reflected light) is amazingly strong; very strong. It is, indeed a "star flash."
My 6 year old son was able to consistently hit me with the mirror's "star flash" (after dark) from the reflection of a community street light - at night! Pretty amazing, and of course (as an aside) you can never train your crews (or family) too early. I had doubted that moon light would be effective (as is advertised in the packaging), however I'm now a believer. Moreover, a sunlight reflection from this mirror would no doubt be visible up to 100 miles away (depending on sun angle, and sky conditions). I'm a believer.
Whether you're on a boat, a hiking trail, in a vehicle, on a cycle, or crewing an aircraft, no one should ever be without a good signal mirror such as this.
Very inexpensive insurance.
Finally, the device is easy to use, lightweight, and works great.

This is probably the best survival mirror you can purchase.The flash produced by this mirror is blinding and that is what I wanted in my survival kit.It floats,you can use it with a full moon,it is small,and it has instructions on the back.It is easy to use and I know I chose the best.
