5.0 out of 5 stars excelent performance and speed
This cable is very easy to conect, brings inmediate speed boost vs standard SATA1 cables or USB - Firewire interfaces. In one word: FAST!!!

Some facts:
If you have an IDE or SATA1 Hard Drive you will not notice the advantages of the speeds reachable with this cable.
To fully appretiate the true potential of a SATA2 or eSATA2 cable you MUST have...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cable Failed after 3 months
I brought this cable to use with my desktop PC and external harddisk, after about 3 months it failed

The cable connection appeared loose - I'm not sure if this is specific to this cable or a design issues with eSata, but i'd expect the connector to lock into place. On several occasions this caused my PC to fail to boot due to the cable becoming loose. The...

5.0 out of 5 stars excelent performance and speed, October 25, 2007
This review is from: StarTech 6-Feet Shielded External eSATA Cable M/M (ESATA6) (Personal Computers)

To fully appretiate the true potential of a SATA2 or eSATA2 cable you MUST have at least two SATA2 hard drives that run at 3.0Gb/s both.

So if your external drive is SATA2 and your internal drives are SATA1 or IDE you will notice no difference in time transfers as you should with 2 SATA 2 drives.

From my HDD (Seagate SATA1) to a external SATA2 Drive a 4.88GB File was transfered through this eSATA cable in 6 minutes, 42 secs.
Same file through USB 2.0 cable was transferred in 5 minutes, 48 secs.

In other computer same file through 2 SATA2 Hard drives, one internal and one external using this cable, was transferred in 3 minutes, 19 secs.

So, change to SATA2 and wellcome to the almost SCSI speeds world!!

So far so good. Have connected two external eSATA drives side-by-side using 6 ft. external shielded eSATA cables and they're working great. I use them for DV standard video capture and editing and have had no problems with data throughput.

If you need eSATA cable then do get this one as it is a higher quility than those that come with some enclosures or devices. Other than that, nothing special

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, cheap eSATA cable, January 27, 2010

I went through 3 eSATA cables before I found this one, and this cable is a clear winner. It isn't as stiff as my other cables so I don't have to sit my devices three hundred feet from the wall in order to get the cable to fit properly, and the connection seems much more reliable than others I've tried (comparable to USB thus far). I had sort of assumed that eSATA was a trade-off with USB before I found this. Now I realize it's just better.

Well constructed eSATA cable .. no complaints, everything works as expected. Highly recommended, and would replace it with the same without hesitation.

What consumers get charged for cabling of all sorts borders on the criminal. It costs next to nothing to manufacture, yet most most stores want to charge you 30, 40, 50 dollars or more for the simplest cable, justifying it by solemnly warning that buying anything "inferior" will degrade performance, etc. And that's a load of B.S. Reality is that unless you're stringing together supercomputers, a basic no-name cable works just fine.

And that brings us to this. No fancy clam-shell package. No marketing burden. No gold plated anything. Just a simple six foot eSata cable in a plain plastic bag. And yes, it works just fine to play HD/Blu-Ray movies and programs off an external drive through a 64 bit Windows 7 computer and on to a 1080p big screen. No jitters. No pixelation. Nice and smooth.

This is a very good value for the money and kudos to Amazon and the manufacturer/reseller for offering up a bit of tech sanity.

Makes good use of the esata port on the desktop as well as the hard drive.

6 feet is a good length, slightly on the long side, but better to have some slack then just come up short, and makes it across my desk perfectly right now.

Build quality is nice, feels durable, I think it would survive being run over by chair wheels easily, though I haven't tried that part, will update if I do.

The connection to both the desktop and hard drive are snug, not loose/ do not feel it'll fall out.

For all fellow computer geeks, audiophiles, and videophiles... listen very closely: this cheap cable works PERFECTLY connecting my TiVo to my 500 GB "My DVR Expander" external HDD. You do NOT need to spend top dollar on cables! Do not let the salespeople in your electronic store, or your friends who "know a lot about electronics" talk you into a more expensive cable. It's digital, people! It's 0s and 1s... the data is either going to get there, or it's not going to get there. There is no in-between like analog connections. Just like HDMI cables... don't but the $50 premium brand cable; the $10 cable sitting next to it on the shelf is just as good. Save your money and buy this cable, it works perfectly.
