Priced much better than in electronics stores (if you can even find one in there).

It is a DVI to VGA adapter (use a VGA monitor with a DVI video card output) and it works as expected.

There really isn't much to say about products like this specifically other than it works!

I didn't realize their are three types of DVI connectors: DVI-I, DVI-D and DVI-A. This adapter fits DVI-I ports, which transfer both a digital and an analog signal. I happen to have a docking port with DVI-D, which is digital only, and can not therefore transfer an analog signal. The adapter won't even fit the DVI-D port. And just fo interests, DVI-A is an analog only DVI port - in essence a VGA transfer with a DVI connector - you don't see to many of these.

So, don't make the same mistake I did. Be sure to check that your docking port or video card has a DVI-I connector before buying this adapter. It will have 4 pin holes around a long slender horizontal pin hole at one end of the port. Check Wikipedia for more info on these ports.

I used this little device on my Dell to setup dual monitors. I have the Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE that has one VGA and one DVI connector on it. This adapter allowed me to setup a 2nd VGA monitor using the DVI output.

I've got an old Ti4600 with VGA and DVI out. This adapter allows me to have dual-monitor at home with ease; the adapter currently connects my secondary screen, a Dell 17" LCD.

Might I also recommend UltraMon, a dual-monitor program which performs a whole host of useful dual-monitor features (i.e. individual task bars, widescreen wallpapers, etc.)

I have a older Viewsonic Professional Series CRT monitor that I really like. My video card is an ATI HD 4850 which has DVI out. The monitor is VGA so I need an adapter to hook my VGA monitor to my DVI video card.

The card came with a DVI adapter and I was using it no problem until I tried to bump up my CRT resolution up from 1600 X 1200 to 2048 X 1536. It wouldn't happen even though the specs for the monitor say the max resolution is 2048 X 1536 @ 75hz.

Turned out the DVI adapter ATI included with the card was a single link DVI whereas this one is a dual link DVI. Either adapter will work with a DVI video card, but the single link adapters only have 18 pins that plug into the video card, this dual link has 24 pins.

Using the single link DVI the highest resolution my CRT would display was 1600 X 1200. Switching to this dual link I was able to achieve the max resolution of 2048 X 1536.

Bottom line, if you want the maximum data transfer available get this 24 pin dual link DVI.

Old monitor - new computer. The new PC's only accept digital cables (the white end cables), old monitors typically have only analog cable (the blue end cables) this makes them work together, so you don't have to buy a new monitor just yet.

Besides I think LCD monitors are just a fad, my giant CRT is going to be back in style real soon!

My computer's video card supports dual monitors. One port is Vga and the other is Dvi. All my monitors are Vga; I bought this adapter to plug a second Vga monitor into the Dvi port. It works great and I've had no problems with it for the past year.

I bought this to connect my old Samsung LCD monitor to a new Intel motherboard without a VGA connector. So far it's working perfectly, except that Ubuntu 12.04 could no longer detect my monitor model and therefore wouldn't list any screen resolutions above 1024x768 after installation. I finally fixed that by editing several entries in my xorg.conf file manually but that would be a bit too obscure for most users... I'm not certain whether the detection problem was due to the adaptor itself, the new board's graphics or the new Ubuntu version, but I'm guessing the problem is the adaptor being unable to pass the EDID information from the monitor, perhaps because a DVI-I connector has fewer analogue pins than a real VGA connector or just because it doesn't connect them all? I don't know whether a different adaptor would do better, but I'm very happy my old monitor is working until I get a new TV and can recommend this item if you can deal with a bit of extra setup.

Be aware that there at least 3 types of DVI connectors. This kind of adaptor will ONLY work if your computer has a DVI-I or DVI-A connector and outputs an analogue signal component. If the graphics output is digital-only using a DVI-D connector then you're out of luck and will need an active DVI-VGA convertor (not adaptor) instead, which is quite a lot more expensive. I checked this by downloading my motherboard's manual from Intel before buying it.

James.

The computer company I bought my dual display adapter from said it DIDN'T come with a DVI to VGA adapter and wanted to charge me over $20.00 for one. This adapter was every bit as good, arrived faster, worked perfectly and was FAR LESS expensive that the one the computer company would have supplied. I would recommend this to anyone with a similar need. I also suggested that the computer company look in to getting theirs here as well (grin).
