Product Description

This IDE (50-pin) to Compact Flash Enclosure Adapter offers a cost-effective do-it-yourself SSD solution; the adapter functions as a small form factor hard drive enclosure, allowing you to install a CompactFlash card into the enclosure for mounting in a computer in place of a 1.8in IDE hard drive. The adapter card lets you take advantage of the benefits that Solid State storage has to offer. With no moving parts, an SSD is the ideal addition to virtually any working environment, because it provides cooler and quieter storage than a conventional hard disk drive. Plus, Solid State drives are less susceptible to atmospheric hazards (e.g. dust particles, atmospheric changes etc.), ensuring seamless performance regardless of environmental factors. A highly reliable storage solution, the IDE to CompactFlash Enclosure Adapter is backed by StarTech.com's free lifetime technical support.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work!, May 12, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: StarTech.com 1.8-Inch 50-Pin IDE to Compact Flash Solid State Drive Enclosure IDE502CFE (Personal Computers)
I have purchased [...] 1.8in 50 Pin IDE to Compact Flash Solid State Drive Enclosure Adapter - IDE502CFE and SanDisk 32GB Extreme III Compact Flash Card. This sounded like an excellent alternative for my second failed Toshiba hard disk. The computer never recognized it as a hard disk. It would just lock up and wouldn't even allow me to access BIOS setup. I tied another Compact Flash, this time 128 MB SanDisk and indeed it worked! Needless to say 128MB is not really an alternative for a hard drive. I contacted customer support and was told "It appears that you will not be able to use that card with our adapter. I'd recommend using a different card or having the adapter replaced." I purchased Transcend Compact Flash 16GB 133x and others. Neither worked. I asked StarTech for a list of CF that were actually tested and work. This was over a week ago. After doing some needed testing for StarTech I'm stuck with [...] of garbage hardware. The product is worthless and the customer support utterly incompetent.
