Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: StarTech.com 36-Inch Sliding Server Rack Cabinet Shelf RK36SLFS (Personal Computers)
Purchased new from [...] the package came a little beat up. When I inspected the shelf it seemed ok until I noticed one of the shelf slides where jammed passed the rail stop. I then discovered that two of the mounting holes for the shelf slider (between rail and shelf) where stripped and one whole looked as if someone attempted the start the screw many times but could not find the hole. I feel I was delivered someone else's returned item that they broke.
On a funny note under product details the item weight is 14 lbs. and the shipping weight is 13 lbs. They must use that Helium infused package material, lol. Product review: Installation: I own a standard 36in rack from HP (HP 1000 G2 series). First thing I noticed was that the holes do not align to my cabinet. My inner post are about 1.5 inches closer together than the slots they provide. Buy.com doesn't list any meaningful specification other than the model number to allow you to find more info from the manufactures web site. [....] I was guessing that I was missing brackets that attach to the shelf rails to allow me to use my outer post. I been completely through every link from the description page and down loaded there one page install description they call a manual. I'm convinced now that I got everything I should have but I'm still not able to mount the shelf without additional brackets or modifying the bracket myself. Startech web site does mention that it will fit "virtually any industry standard 42in depth 19inch rack with side mounting options". I drilled an extra hole and made a spacer about 3/8 inches thick and mounted the shelf. Functionality: The shelf only has 9.5 inches of travel. In my rack the mount is 2.75 inches in from the front lip of the rack so completely extended the shelf extends 6.75 inches for me. I have found no mention of the length of slider anywhere for this product. When I purchase a 36 inch sliding shelf I did expect it to slide at least half the length of the shelf if not more. In closing: If I had more time to spare I should have sent this shelf back. If I knew now what I didn't know before buying it I would have never purchased this shelf. If I knew [...] resells returned items I would have never purchased this shelf. Thinking hard to find something nice to say, the color matches my cabinet well and the shelf does look nice after it's installed. |
