Product Description

Easily connect and swap 2.5in and 3.5in SATA drives from a 5.25in front bay - This SATA hard drive dock/docking station can be mounted internally in a 5.25in computer drive bay, to provide simple access to 2.5in or 3.5in SATA hard drives. Featuring a convenient trayless design, the internal hard drive dock doesn't require that hard drives be mounted in an enclosure, saving time and hassle. Once the docking station is connected to the host computer, it's as simple as inserting the desired SATA hard drive into the slot(s) as needed for full access to the hard drive(s) as though installed conventionally within the computer case. To maximize performance and utilize the full speed potential of your SATA III hard drives, this HDD Backplane supports SATA III for transfer speeds up to 6 Gbps when paired with compatible controller. The HDD dock accommodates both 2.5in and 3.5in SATA hard drives and can support one of each at the same time. Plus, when the 3.5in slot is not in use, two 2.5in drives can be inserted simultaneously. The 5.25in bay-mounted SATA Hard Drive Dock features front panel power control, allowing you to power the drives on/off as needed.

It works great and was pretty easy to setup.

The dock is very short so be aware that the drive itself does not recess all the way back into your case and stick out about 3.5" from the front of the dock.

Doesn't work. system doesn't detect drives plugged into it. verified it has power and turns on.

I was skeptical about this due to several negative reviews, but had positive experience with a Star Tech Starview KVM switch so gave it a try. I encountered no problems installing or using the Satadock525 due to the unit itself. It fit perfectly into the 5-1/4 in. drive bay. The opening in the Satadock525 helps line up the SATA hard drive with the SATA data/power connector but clipless SATA connectors (you couldn't use a clip in a device like this because the connector is internal) never seem all that secure to me and the horizontal insertion eliminates even the weight of the hard drive as a factor to keep the connection secure. I have inserted a hard drive several times in the week I have had the Satadock525 without any problems but time will tell how long the connector continues to provide good contact. At present, it's a very convenient way to install hard drives temporarily in my computer without having to open the case and data transfer rates are much faster than with the USB 2.0 connection devices I have used previously.

Sometimes I will read a bad review of a product and realize that the problem the user encountered has nothing to do with the product. Here are a couple of tips I can offer less experienced users of this product. Before ordering this device make sure your motherboard supports SATA connections. Also, you need to match the SATA revision of the hard drive and the motherboard. When I first tried to use a hard drive in the Satadock525 my computer locked up (all the CPU cycles were being used). When I rebooted I received an error message about the BIOS not being installed. After a little research I found that I was trying to use a SATA II drive with a motherboard that supports only SATA I devices.

This is a cheaply made plastic junk. That being said, the utility is awesome so I think I'll buy a third. Unlike the esata docks this has no esata cables to get jarred and doesn't take any more desk space.

Until recently it was the only one of it's kind I could find and worth it. Now there's a similar option to consider:

Kingwin 2.5-Inch / 3.5-Inch Internal SATA Tray-Less Hot Swap Rack KF-252-BK

I tend to find that the dual dock is a little over kill as I rarely use both at once. You'll need two sata ports available on your mother board or a sata card and two sata power connectors (or appropriate Ys) on your power supply.

I am very pleased with this product, it fits into the 5.25 in bay. It came with everything required to connect it to my computer - 2 SATA cables, 2 SATA power adapters and screws. The drive has 2 seperate bays, 1 for 2.5" drives and the second is for 3.5" drives, but you can put in a second 2.5" drive into the 3.5" bay.

This "internal" hard drive dock is excellent. Made with fairly cheap plastic, but since it's mounted in the 5.25 slot, your computer case protects it, so it's not an issue.
Makes "hot swapping" hard drives (laptop or desktop), for copying data or cleaning a breeze.
Has individual "power" buttons for each drive bay slot.
Takes 2 internal SATA connections and 2 power connections.
I used to use a "slave" cable for mounting extra drives to copy data or wipe clean. Now I just "pop" it in the correct slot, drive is recognized and ready for use.
Highly recommend.

Installed fairly easily. It only has one screw hole on each side. They do not line up perfectly but nothing too bad to complain about.

The top is for 2.5 only. The bottom can accept 3.5 or 2.5. Each connects via SATA cable from the back to the motherboard. There is a single molex connector for power. Yes, you can run both drives at the same time. I did without any issue.

Each drive has a separate power button. Ensure you turn the drives off before you remove them. The LED will indicate if the drive back is powered so you know it's safe to insert. This is not a true hot-swap. The power should be turned off to the specific bay, but the computer can stay running.

All my drives were detected quickly in Win 7x64.

The doors on the bay are kind of cheap. They seem to be a little sticky. They are designed to swing inward but sometimes on side will stick a bit and need a push. I'm sure they will work better as the plastic wears down.

For the price, you can purchase two of these and it would still be cheaper than buying many 4 drive solutions. I was going to buy the Vantec 4 bay dock (2.5") for $36, but having two of these gives me options for drive sizes. I can go with 4x2.5" or 2x3.5" & 2x3.5".

Also, this does not have any trays. The drives do stick out. You need to consider if you are okay with that or you if actually want trays with cool little latches and locks. I did not need them.

I wanted to use it as a form of dual boot as I wanted to keep somethings that only work in XP. For that it seems to work fine. I got two so I could use it to turn on a back-up drive for periodical back ups. It's not the fault of the unit, but I have to reboot the computer to make the motherboard know it's working with another drive. This would be cool if it had a usb3.0 option, then I could just turn it on, update and turn it off.
The pretty blue LEDs are so damn bright I had to put tape over them.
