Solid but not perfect product,
By Pleased "-Pleased" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews

I installed this item with no problem, and immediately got it working. However, the colors on my two monitors were significantly off initially and I needed to futz around with my settings (including some system restarts) to get the colors on my two screens reasonably close to one another. Overall though, everything went smoothly. My only complaint now is that the device won't let you use your second monitor in the vertical position. You are limited to the horizontal.

No support from StarTech,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: StarTech.com Compact USB VGA Multi Monitor Video Adapter (Electronics)
I purchased two of these for my office shortly before Windows 7 was released. They worked fine with Windows Vista. When I upgraded to Windows 7 they would not work. I searched in vain for drivers and finally contacted StarTech. The customer service rep bluntly told me they were not providing support for this product for Windows 7 and had no plans to in the future. Then he tried to sell me the new improved more expensive model. No way. Planned obsolescence appears to be their marketing strategy.
Let the buyer beware.

Bit of a disappointment,

This adaptor was a bit of a disappointment for me. Although it works after a fashion; on my system the video performance is jerky on applications such as PowerPoint and other simple graphics applications. Irritatingly applications such as Jing (Techsmith) will not run at all, as in they will not even load. To be fair I do a lot of screen desktop video capture and presentations so I might be asking a little more of it than it is intended for; however these are just business applications and not high powered video demanding things such as 3D Graphics and Games.
I'm running Vista with 6Gb RAM and a 2.5GHz CPU so it's certainly not anything to do with the systems resources. On the plus side it installed really easily and worked immediately. It does work fine with static applications, normal web surfing and email. For me though I have had to purchase an additional PCIe video adaptor anyway to get the performance I need so buying this product was a bit of a waste. |
