Just the thing for my Alienware Laptop,

I got this cable for my Alienware M15x laptop. I was surprised it'd didn't come with an HDMI and was not familiar with displayport. I got this cable so I could watch my movie files while on vacation. The adapter works great and is very well made. The part that plugs into the data port has a positive locking system which is nice. The quality is also very good and it feels substantial and well put together.
Additional info. For me (as mentioned in the comments below), in order to send the audio through the HDMI cable, you will need to get into the "sound and Audio devices" of the control panel and change the sound playback Default Device to the displayport cable. If you don't the sound will come out the laptop speakers or whatever speakers you have hooked up to the laptop. Just a quick update. I've been using this cable on and off for a while and it still works just fine. More and more hotels have nice TV's with HDMI in plugs so I can play my movies from my laptop which is nice. I just wanted to mention that although the photo of the adapter may look like a USB at first glance IT'S NOT, it IS a DisplayPort male end you are seeing. This is a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, just like the title says. I see too many people giving this item bad reviews because they made the mistake of ordering it thinking it is a USB to HDMI. It isn't. The title and description is correct. I'm not saying I've never ordered the wrong thing by mistake but I can't say I'd blame Amazon for my mistake. Peaty

I was a bit disappoint to see my new Dell laptop come with DP++ (DisplayPort++) output instead of HDMI. I connected the laptop with this adapter to a 6ft HDMI cable directly into my 1080p Phillips flatscreen. Everything comes through perfect with sound. The "locking" design to keep the cable in performs as well as it should. I'm fully satisfied with this adapter because it works.

I purchased this product to add a 37" LG HDTV to my computer setup as a media display screen. The whole purpose of using this adapter in lieu of the fact my video card has a HDMI output is the fact that my video card uses a new technology called Eyefinity. You can run three displays as long as one is a DisplayPort monitor. After doing some thorough searching on AMD's website, I found an article showing adapters one could use to use said third display. Alas, the article was incorrect. While this adapter works flawlessly to use my LG HDTV, it will not activate as a third display. I could only ever run two at any given time. Further (many hours of scouring the web) research showed that Eyefinity can only work with an active adapter. This device is a passive adapter. The difference is power. An active adapter receives power from another source (USB, AC adapter, etc.). This converts the data mid-stream and is powered by the DP bus. To anyone looking at buying this to convert a monitor to use DisplayPort with Eyefinity, stay away.
That being said, it is still a flawless device. I have been using it for a month now with no issues. The real nice thing is allows HD output with 1080i/30Hz interlaced. For some reason, it would not work that way under HDMI alone. I would recommend it for anyone who has an older HDTV who wants to use it as a computer monitor. Just do not expect it to work with Eyefinity. Not a fault of the manufacturer of this device, but of AMD. BTW, I was able to get three displays working. I had to dust off a slightly older video card with a similar chipset as the card I have. My computer is now running two overclocked video cards powering three large displays. I still use this adapter even though it is not required.

If you have a laptop with DisplayPort instead of HDMI, this product is for you. I recently purchased a 47-inch LCD and intended to hook my Thinkpad to my tv. I was frustrated when I found I couldn't hook my laptop directly to my tv using an HDMI cord. Thinkpads have DisplayPort instead of HDMI.
I shopped online and found this adapter. Upon receiving this item, my frustration went away. Simply plug the adapter into your laptop, then plug your HDMI cord running from your tv into you adapter and your set. Audio and video transmit without a problem. Just what I wanted, plug and play with no hassle. Adapter appears durable as well and the locking mechanism is a nice touch. Buy this instead of paying more money at the store.

Works Like a Charm!,

I ordered this adapter, not able to find it anywhere else. I expected it to be of cheap construction with the low price and I was happily proven wrong when I plugged it in. My favorite feature is the lock-in construction on the computer side of the cable. I use this with my laptop on a TV tray in the living room. When it's plugged in you hear a "pop" that let's you know it's secure. The video quality from the laptop is awesome!

My work computer (laptop) was upgraded to a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 back in March 2011. It had no HDMI (business laptop) but it came with a DisplayPort. When I work from home, I need to hook it upto my big screen so I started reading reviews. Some folks, accurately stated that ThinkPads did not send Audio out the DisplayPort. They're right for older models but my T410 (2011 model) sends out audio. I bought this product at a very good price on Amazon and have been using it for more than 6 months now. I can tell you it's a very good buy - the cable is thick, product is rugged and works perfectly. Couldn't ask for more.

Received adapter quickly. Plugged it into Lenovo T420 and it displays on my 60" Sharp TV over the 25" HDMI cable beautifully, with the sound. Very satisfied with the purchase.

I use this cable to connect my Dell Latitude E Series laptop to my 50" Samsung plasma HDTV. The Latitude doesn't have an HDMI port but thankfully it has the DisplayPort on the back which is just as good (takes care of both audio and video!).
This particular DisplayPort (male) to HDMI (female) cable is just what I needed. I also connect other laptops to the TV with an HDMI male-to-male cable so I just needed this adapter for my Latitude laptop. This particular adapter had a nice secure DisplayPort connector which holds very well (you need to push the button down to release the cable, so it's pretty securely connected). In terms of picture quality, it is just as clear and crisp as when I connect other laptops using an HDMI cable directly. I can now get both audio and video into my 50" HDTV using this adapter from my DisplayPort in full HD. The price is also very good on Amazon (I got it for $16 with Amazon Prime's free 2-day shipping).

Read all the reviews and considered other options but this one worked without issue in my Lenovo ThinkPad T420. This laptop is a version with onboard and discrete NVidia graphics and detected the hook up automatically and audio / video worked on first try.

This adapter worked fine when I connected my HP 8440p laptop to my LG LCD TV. My laptop has a mini DV port which I needed to connect to my flat screen lcd tv.
