Obviously I can't get my money back and I had bitten the bullet intending to toss the cable into the trash.

The WYSE device supports two monitors: it has a DVI-I output, and using a splitter cable enables connection to two monitors, one DVI and one VGA.

I have not submitted a review on this site before, but I wanted to warn potential purchasers that this product does not work completely as described. Let me first describe my setup, then describe my problems and findings.

I have a DVI-I KVM switch that allows me to run both digital and analog signals through the switch, but my monitor only supports DVI-D and VGA. Normally I have one DVI laptop, one DVI desktop, and one VGA laptop (USB/audio only) hooked up to the switch. I wanted to also hook the VGA laptop's video up to the switch to simplify the switching process (switching to the VGA laptop, or away from it, was a two step instead of one step process since you had to first switch the KVM and then switch the input source on the monitor). I got home, hooked up the new cable between the monitor and the KVM, and flipped over to my desktop. Success! I then flipped over to my VGA laptop, connected via a DVI-A to VGA cable: success!

By now you're thinking, they both worked: what's the problem? Well, it turns out that the cable does pass video signals. I'm not completely familiar with all of the signals passed through a video cable, but what I now also know, is that the cable does not pass all video signals. You see, the KVM device shields the connected devices from an unplugged and replugged monitor (what I did when I got home). Both connected devices still thought that the old monitor they had previously detected was plugged in.

I later had to reboot my DVI desktop. It came up with a completely black screen, including during the post process. Well, that's odd, I thought; I hope my video card isn't going bad. I tried some debugging tricks, rebooted a few times, and eventually ran a DVI-D cable straight from my monitor to the desktop. Success.

I bought this to attach a WYSE Xenith to two monitors. The WYSE device supports two monitors: it has a DVI-I output, and using a splitter cable enables connection to two monitors, one DVI and one VGA. However, this splitter does not work... only the VGA connection is recognized.

I later bought a cable directly from WYSE which appears physically identical to this one, but it works. I don't know if this (or the WYSE) has some proprietary pinout, but don't buy this for WYSE.

Got this cable to work with a DVI-I KVM so that I could hook up DVI and Analog through the switch to my monitor. The switch is pretty flaky, but this cable works great.

Under Product Features the 1st item is:
"Connect a DVI-D and a VGA Monitor simultaneously to a single DVI-I video source"
I bought this cable to connect two monitors to an hp HPE h8-1128 with a RADEON HD6570 graphics card's DVI-I output.

I ran into the same problem Drug Store Cowboy encountered in his Jan 4 2011 review: When both monitors are connected using the splitter cable, only the VGA monitor was recognised. If either monitor is disconnected, then the other monitor is recognized.

I will be returning this cable as it does not meet my needs(sigh).

Don't get me wrong: tonight I counted and I am currently using 9 OTHER cables from StarTech and they all work just fine.

HOWEVER ...

I bought one of these roughly 4 years ago for what was then my first DVI-D monitor. I was using a KVM (DVI-I + USB2.0) switch and had 3 DVI-D capable machines plus an office laptop which only had VGA-15, so I thought I was set. However (long story) "complications" arose and I wasn't able to complete my setup at the time. A couple of years later I went to set things up, took the cable out of the bag, and hooked everything up. DVI-D output from all 3 DVI-capable machines was fine, but there was no output to the VGA cable at all.

Naturally my first thought was that my KVM switch was defective. So I connected the cable directly to my video board (KVM switch not in the loop) and hooked the cables to my monitor to see whether I got a signal on both DVI-D and vga inputs. No I didn't, so I tried 2 monitors. Same story: output on DVI-D, no output on VGA. Period.

Borrowing a different splitter (also from Amazon) from a friend, the switch was fine and I had the expected output on ITS VGA/DB15 cable as well as on its DVI-I.

Then my friend tried my DVIVGAYMM6 cable on his equipment and he got the same results I had. The cable worked fine on its DVI-D side, but there was no output on its VGA/DB15 side.

So (obviously no longer in warranty by then) I called StarTech. Basically I was told that the splitter cable was fine and that what I was trying to use it for (Duh ... to split the DVI-I and VGA signals onto 2 cables going to 2 different monitors) was not supported. When I asked what WAS supported I was simply told to read the information on the web site.

It is a very handy device, but doesn't always work. I haven't figured out why, but it does sometimes as I said.

I really can't tell if this product worked as it should or not. It would only show one monitor at a time. Just fyi in case someone else didn't know like I did, if you have more than one plug in for a monitor for your video card, may want to check if it's dual capable. My card apparently didn't need this adapter for dual monitors, I just had to plug one monitor into my dvi and one to my vga.
