Customer Reviews

I removed it from my system.

It worked great right out of the box with Windows Vista x86 and I guess it would work great with any version or edition of Windows (either x86 or x64).
A. Nima
Found the SATA connectors were loose fitting and my new SATA cables would not stay plugged-in.

I bought this product not to expand SATA headers but to replace them. My mini-itx motherboard seemed to have fried SATA headers so I bought this pci card instead of buying a new motherboard which would cost me around $70. It worked great right out of the box with Windows Vista x86 and I guess it would work great with any version or edition of Windows (either x86 or x64). No problems with it, cheap and solid. Completely satisfied with my purchase.

I don't use this for boot drives (and I'm not sure I would recommend doing so).
This is an inexpensive add-on card that works great for adding MORE SATA ports to your computer.
I'm using one in my media server which runs Windows 7. It is controlling a pair of 1.5tb drives and I have not had a single problem with it. Data transfers are just as fast as my onboard SATA controller.
I'll probably end up getting another one of these to add more drives.

I purchased this item about a month ago (04/2010) for a Dell i630 running Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). I use it to control two LightScribe-capable DVD drives as I use the internal 4 ports to support 4 hard drives. The card I received does not come with a Windows 7 driver, however, the Vista driver seems to work just fine. I recommend this controller card for non-critical usage. For me it "just worked" out of the box.

The card has been working flawlessly, no driver issues or any headaches.

What really made this card stand out to me was the included low profile bracket, so I can mount it properly in my slimline case.

A nice feature is the hotswap functionality, you can remove and add sata devices to the card and have them recognized without having to restart your machine. Total win in my book!

I bought the StarTech card for my home build PC running a Gigabyte motherboard. I needed two additional SATA ports for auxiliary hard drives.

Pros:

Easy installation (even includes low profile bracket!)
Includes driver CD that installed and worked flawlessly (I'm running Windows 7 Professional)
SATA ports on the back are perfect even in my very tight horizontal HTPC case.

Cons:
Packing - amazon packed the box well but Startech just left the card in a box with the CD and the low profile bracket all just flailing around. I'm surprised the card wasn't damaged but it works fine so far.

Not worth the money. I removed it from my system. I needed it to add a sata hdd and on bootup it worked fine. But then whenever the computer went to sleep on waking it no longer saw the drive.

I saw previous reviews, and apparently people don't like this product. I have experienced the problem, but then I realized that it was not the card, but it was the red cable, it was the sata cable, I luckily have an extra Hard drive cable, in fact more than one. I made my necessary connections started up my PC and it worked.

To those who are having trouble with this pci express internal sata card, try another red hard drive cable. Or sometimes it works if you unplug the cable and flip the cable over to one end plug the cable to the card, and the other end to the hard drive. I hope that works....
