This review is from: StarTech.com 4 Port PCI Express RS232 Serial Adapter Card with 16950 UART (PEX4S950) (Personal Computers)
This is a great product with support for Windows Vista. Works right out of the box with the included drivers on the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well with Linux, August 22, 2009
This review is from: StarTech.com 4 Port PCI Express RS232 Serial Adapter Card with 16950 UART (PEX4S950) (Personal Computers)
Works fine on a generic PC, with Intel DG31PR mainboard, in a
single-lane PCI-E slot. Ubuntu 8.04LTS (Linux 2.6.24 kernel); used
a command-line option so the kernel would see all four serial ports,
ttyS4 through ttyS7. Added "8250.nr_uarts=8" to the "kernel" line
in /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Why 8? This mainboard has a serial
port that I don't use, have to account for that, and 8 works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of USB to Serial, May 27, 2009
This review is from: StarTech.com 4 Port PCI Express RS232 Serial Adapter Card with 16950 UART (PEX4S950) (Personal Computers)
I have been using USB to Serial adapters for several remote sensing devices; however, when the machine is rebooted (which is not often e.g. not windoze) the adapters seem never to reconnect in the same order as the last time.

I ordered this device, the marketing info states that it works with Linux and it does, it just works, which is exactly what I wanted. No messing with jumpers (it does have undocumented jumpers), just plug and play.

Pluses: It works as advertised and is not expensive compared to other cards like this.
Minuses: Poor docs, while I did not need them it would have been nice to know what the jumpers on the board are used for.
