5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with firewire soundcards!
I needed a stable firewire card to handle all my home recording through a Presonus Firebox and Edirol FA101. Using a Sony Vaio VGN-FW270J, the built-in firewire was unreliable, losing connectivity during recording and playback without notice. Beyond frustrating! 3.0 out of 5 stars TI chipset issue
This card was recommended to me by Lenovo (I was going to use it with my x220t). However, the card uses the Texas Instruments chipset and was incompatible with the device I was trying to connect it to (Canon HDV Vixia hv40). I purchased this Belkin ExpressCard instead and had great results.Express Combo Card 1394A(1 Xt)/usb 2.0(1 Xt)

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with firewire soundcards!, September 16, 2009
This review is from: StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard Laptop 1394a Firewire Adapter Card (EC13942) (Personal Computers)
I needed a stable firewire card to handle all my home recording through a Presonus Firebox and Edirol FA101. Using a Sony Vaio VGN-FW270J, the built-in firewire was unreliable, losing connectivity during recording and playback without notice. Beyond frustrating! For around $50, the StarTech firewire expresscard works incredibly well without any kind of installation or setup required. All the drivers loaded automatically (using Vista Ultimate) and with the hotswap feature, I can install and remove the card at will. As far as performance with my firewire devices (especially soundcards), I have yet to notice any additional lag or latency whatsoever. By far this has been the best (and cheapest) alternative to actually replacing the board, without compromising any performance. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me, and note that a 4-pin to 6-pin cable is included, September 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard Laptop 1394a Firewire Adapter Card (EC13942) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this card to transfer video from my Panasonic Mini-DV camcorder to my laptop computer running Vista. The card works without a hitch and Vista makes it easy to import video from the camera to the computer. I didn't need any software setup at all, it just worked. The 6-pin end of the cable plugs in to the expresscard, and the 4-pin end of the cable plugs in to the camcorder's "DV" port.

One thing that should have been stated in the Amazon description is that a firewire 4-pin to 6-pin cable IS included with this card. (I unnecessarily ordered a separate cable because there was no indication that a cable is included.) In fact Amazon misleads you by stating that this card is frequently purchased along with a separate cable, which implies that a separate cable should be ordered.

Anyway the card works well for me and if you buy it, you don't need to purchase an extra 4pin/6pin cable.

4.0 out of 5 stars motu ultralite audio interface compatible, November 16, 2009

This review is from: StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard Laptop 1394a Firewire Adapter Card (EC13942) (Personal Computers)
I bought a laptop with no firewire port for my Motu Ultralite Mk3 and this device was the answer. Right out of the box it worked immediately. The only downside is that it won't power the motu so you have to plug your mk3 in. There is an optional adapter for the firewire card itself which seems a bit weird but all I really care about is the compatibility issue between the motu and the firewire interface. zero problems so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with MacBook Pro, OS X, August 3, 2009
This review is from: StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard Laptop 1394a Firewire Adapter Card (EC13942) (Personal Computers)
The tech specs only mentioned PC and the only review with Macintosh was negative. For whatever reason I went ahead and bought it anyway for my MacBook Pro. Probably due to my pessimism I could not get it to work so emailed StarTech. Their technician responded the morning of the next business day, suggesting I look at the System Profiler -- which recognized it (I just switched to Macintosh). Anyway, it is now working on my computer, downloading the video from my camcorder just fine. Kudos to StarTech for their quick and accurate response.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expresscard Firewire Card kicks butt, July 18, 2009

The 2 Port Expresscard Firewire Card represents a great value. I plugged it into my hp Pavilion laptop (64 bit OS) and it worked perfectly right from the start. I'm transferring video from a Canon GL1 camera through the express card, and then saving files on an external USB2 port. It works great!

Delivery was very prompt. I was delighted to have the Expresscard software install without any problems and work beautifully, interfacing my miniDV camcorder with my Dell laptop. Now I can edit my video immediately on site. An added benefit was that the Ulead software will also burn a DVD disc when I'm done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Firewire Card, December 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: StarTech.com 2 Port ExpressCard Laptop 1394a Firewire Adapter Card (EC13942) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this "Startech 5C13942" model after researching and finding out this card was compatible with my Presonus Firebox audio interface soundcard. Before buying this Startech card, I would experience intermittent drop outs when I would broadcast live online radio shows. I was using a 4 pin firewire adapter to connect to my firewire cable that uses a 6 pin connection. With this Startech, I do not need any adapter, I simply plug in my standard firewire cable into this Startech directly and the express slot connection to my laptop seems to be working fine now! So far no more drop outs. The card connects nice and snug into my laptop's express slot so I don't even have to worry about it being loose and dropping out. I recommend this card to anyone needing a reliable firewire card.

I needed to capture video from my camcorder (which has only Firewire output), But, my laptop did not have a Firewire port. It seems nowadays that you have to get a more expensive laptop ($1000 or above) to get one with a mini-Firewire port. I am happy with the purchase of this card in that it enabled me to sucessfully capture footage without any problems. My laptop, purchased a few weeks ago, has an 5i processor with 4GB of RAM and has Windows 7. The card worked as advertised and I received it a day before the estimated delivery arrival time. I am happy with my purchase.
