Took out a 10/100 out of a five year old Dell Inspirion 4700 and replaced with this router. A very noticeable difference right away. Simple to install and works great!!

I am by no means computer savvy, but my internet stopped working and after an hour on the phone with my internet provider they determined it was the PCI card. I found this on Amazon and ordered it. Installation of the card was simple and self explanatory. The problem is that the software driver that comes on the disk does not auto-run, at least not on my XP computer. When I figured out how to get the disk to run, I got a window with hundreds of files. I am not positive, but it appears to me that the disk has the driver software for all the products the company sells. It's up to you to figure out what driver to install, and the files on the disk are not clearly named. In the end, it works, but it took me many hours of aggravation to get the proper driver installed. The book that comes with it is only a few pages, and it says insert the disk and it will auto-run, which it did not on my XP computer. 3 stars because it is OK for the price, and it works, but extremely time consuming and aggravating to get the proper driver installed, especially if you are not tech savvy.

After upgrading my router to Dual Wireless N (Netgear WNDR3700), I decided to upgrade my computer's NIC to make use of the Gigabit ports on my router. This NIC had good reviews here and I downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site and after the driver installation, installed this NIC into my computer and now I have Gigabit speeds. Huge file transfers are a breeze now. Definitely recommend this product for people looking to upgrade their NIC.

After 3 hours of troubleshooting, I finally got this nic going. Not that it was the cards fault, and the drivers autoloaded straight from the windows 7. But the only way the net would connect was in the Safe Mode. So I knew it worked but not in the Win 7 normal mode. After trying everything I knew in the book on this card I was getting frustrated, but then i remembered an old trick we use to try as a last resource configuring many other windows operating systems. I moved the nic card to another PCI slot and it reloaded the drivers automatically and started working perfectly. Thank goodness my motherboard has 5 PCI slots because it seems one of them is bad! After all the above I clocked in on battlefield 3 for about an hour and this card runs very good indeed. Of course this is the first day, so if anything else happens other than good service I will report on a follow-up review. Looks good for now, considering the cheap price it is a good Ethernet Network Adapter. How good time will tell.

Lost my previous network card to a lightning strike. Installed this card into my Kids' computer, takes a few seconds. Started up the computer disabled my previous card and the new one was already there and working. My kids' computer is a emachine w2925 with XP 256k ram. Its not a great computer but this card made its internet functionality 50X faster. It did come with a disk for the driver, but it was not needed on my system. I will buy this product anytime I need a hard line Network Card for any of my 5 computers. Excellent Product.

Everywhere it says it is a PCI card - even on the box itself. Once I looked at the picture on the box, and later the card, I realized that this was not the case.
THIS CARD ONLY FITS IN A PCI-E (PCI-Express) SLOT! Now, I must admit, it is a good price for a card, but I don't have any open PCI-E slots (only PCI) so it is therefore useless to me. Be sure to have a PCI-E slot open before you order!

Received card, installed per instructions and computer would not recognize the card at all. (W7 Pro SP1). Removed, tried in another computer - same problem. Returned card to Amazon. Bummer!!

I have just received and installed this StarTech PCI gigabit card yesterday. It matched what's on the box and in the picture here (unlike a reviewer's bad experience). I have ordered two other cards from different manufacturers, and this card works better than most other cards for the same price or lower on my Dell desktop running Vista 32-bit. I would like to point out one difference between the installation of a gigabit card and a wireless USB card in that for the gigabit card the procedure is to install the card first, let the system find the new hardware, then put the CD that came with the package in and guide the system to find the new driver on the CD. The USB wireless adapter most likely needs to have the driver properly installed prior to inserting the card unless you are running Windows 7. A lot of times, the CD is full of different drivers, utilities and tools to meet the needs of different systems and users. Therefore it's a good practice to look at the chipset on the gigabit card that you are installing before inserting, so that you know where to look for it when prompted. In this particular case you need to know it's a Realtek PCI 8169SC. It will be useful when you try to upgrade your driver later. In case your system can't find the new hardware (this happens a lot if you try to use an open slot that's been idle for years), don't worry. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the dust accumulated in the slot, insert the card, remove it and insert it back. Repeat if necessary until you get it recognized. Replacing an existing card is less likely to have this problem.

Worked exactly as I needed it to, made repairing a computer so much more easier than transferring files without internet.
