Connect a DisplayPort monitor to an HDMI equipped computer

The HDMI2DP DVI or HDMI to DisplayPort Converter converts an HDMI, DVI or Mini DVI input signal into a DisplayPort (or Mini DisplayPort) output, eliminating the cost of upgrading your source device hardware or purchasing a new display.

Supports full HD resolutions up to 1920x1200

With support for full HD resolutions up to 1920x1200, the HDMI2DP converter is the perfect solution for connecting devices that have an HDMI, DVI single-link or mini DVI output, such as video cards (desktop or laptop), video game consoles or home theater receivers, to your DisplayPort-capable display.

*Please Note:

An additional adapter is required to add DVI connectivity to this device. However, the device itself, when used with an additional adapter, will accept and convert a DVI input signal for use with a DisplayPort output device.

What's in the Box
  • 1 - HDMI to DisplayPort converter
  • 1 - Universal Power Adapter (US/UK/EU)
  • 1 - Instruction Manual

I tested this with two different computers with discrete graphics cards. The first was a visiontek amd 7970 with three HP L2201x monitors. Two monitors were connected via the 7970's miniDP and the third used the starTech hdmi2dp from the 7970's hdmi output. No lag or sync issues noticed with Windows 7 desktop extend or AMD's Eyefinity (playing BF3, Crysis2, Dead Island, etc). The second computer tested used a sapphire 7770 hdmi output with one HP l2201x. No issues noticed. This device was not plug and play with the HP monitors I used. I had to set the monitor properties in AMD's Engine Control Center software that I installed with the graphics cards. For a HP L2201x, choose under "My Digital Flat Panels" --> "HDTV Support" --> "Add 1080p60..". Worked fine even after reboot, but I had to first set this up with a second monitor as the main display with the starTech converter monitor attached as an extended display. I could make the starTech attached monitor the main display and disconnect the second monitor after setup. May be different for other monitors. The dimensions are about 3.3" x1.7" x 0.9". It does not come with hdmi or displayport cables, but it does come with the required power adapter. I took one star off since the device runs about 17degC/30degF over ambient, which means it is hot when touched. It is built in a metal case, so this may be by design.

I bought this to use my iMac 27" with mini DV port as a display for a first generation XBox 360 (as part of a ridiculous daisy chain of converters and cables). It works well, and is cheaper than some of its competitors. However, as using an iMac as an external display for a separate input may be one of the use cases people looking to buy this are interested in, I would like to make clear that iMacs only accept digital video input at 720p or their native resolution. You will not get 1080p with this, or any other converter, unless it upsamples the 1080p video to the native 2560x1440 resolution (for the 27"). I have not found any reasonably priced HDMI to DV converter that does this. This is an issue with the iMac's supported resolutions and not this device's fault, but you should be aware of it.

Style Name: HDMI to VGA Verified Purchase
I have a Dell Inspiron 14z laptop with a 19" Dell monitor. The monitor has only a VGA connection, the laptop doesn't. I had originally bought a VGA to mini display port adapter which worked great until the port (on the pc) somehow got damaged and would not accept the adapter.
So, deciding to connect to the pc's HDMI port I bought the Etekcity 1080P adapter which seemed from the description to be made for the purpose and (maybe this should have been a warning sign!) was quite inexpensive.
Anyway to make a long story short, it fit fine, but nothing I tried would get it to work. I returned it to Amazon (great customer service!) and ordered the "StarTech.com HD2VGAE2 HDMI to VGA Converter" which arrived in two days(I highly recommend Prime), plugged right in, and worked like a champ form the get-go.
As a side light, before ordering from Amazon I had gone with my problem to the local Best Buy and Radio Shack stores, hoping for a quick fix adapter and was told in both cases that no such thing existed or that if it did it would be 'very expensive.'

I'm on my second try with a second replacement unit, but it still will not work with my Windows 8 Samsung PC and HP Elite L2201x Display Port monitor. I have checked the tech specs, manuals, and drivers (I work for an IT services company). Don't buy it.

Did not work out of box. Had to go in and change some settings to work. Does run a little hot but not too bad.

I feel cheated buying this product. It says "HDMI or DVI to DisplayPort" converter. However when opening the package up it is only HDMI to DP. There is no DVI to DP converter.

I have a laptop that I want to be able to hook up to VGA only devices (like a projector). I don't use it regularly, but when I need it, it's there. I've tested it on a monitor and projector and it works well.

I was told by a clerk at Radio Shack they did not carry an adaptor that would allow me to use my older projector with VGA input with my newer laptop that has only a HDMI output. He said the ones available cost over $200. This product does the trick at under $30. Am using it without any problems; the computer and project talk with each other and work out their compatibilities with no actions required on my part. Very satisfied customer!
