It just works,
By Dell Product enthusiast (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews

I have an old Dell ergonomic (split) keyboard that I really like, that still works great, but has a PS2 plug. I have a new Dell Optiplex 300 that only has USB outlets - no PS2. This is the perfect solution - plug and play. It just works. I was a little concerned after reading some reviews for similar products, especially after reading the mixed reviews for Cables Unlimited ADP-5210, for example. After reading another review for another product, I found this, ordered it, and am very satisfied. Highly recommended. In fact, I'm typing out this review with the keyboard connected through the adapter right now!

This adapter works great, no problems! This adapter (which actually changes the PS/2 signals to USB signals) worked whereas a previous product that I tried, which was merely a plug-converter, did not work.

What a handy little doo-hickey this thing turned out to be. I've got a 5 year old keyboard, which I dearly love, hooked up to my new laptop. There's also a plug for a mouse if you want to hook up a non-USB mouse as well. (The key style on the laptop is not really conducive to doing a lot of typing as I have long fingernails, so it's easier for me to use my old keyboard and not make so many typos).
I didn't want to have to buy a new USB keyboard so using this plug has avoided having that extra cost. And when I want to use the keyboard on the desktop again, all I have to do is unplug the USB end of the dongle and plug it into a USB port on the desktop. No problem with the hookup - it works right out of the box. The plug ends are not color-coded (ie: purple=keyboard) but there's a small hard-to-see icon on each plug end showing a mouse or a keyboard. Just for the heck of it, I also tried it out on a mouse and keyboard I still have from one of our really old comps running Windows 98 - again no problem with that mouse or keyboard either. Great way to get use out of legacy peripherals and avoid having lots of old stuff around that can't be used anymore because everything is USB now. I'm really glad I bought this.

My need was to be able to use a PS2 keyboard (which has specific characteristics I wanted to retain) through a USB-only KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) switch on three PCs. This adapter works very well in this situation where the cheaper pinout-converter-only kind would not. The only caveat is that it seems to be affected by quickly repeated key-strokes occasionally. Hitting the same key twice in succession will (only) sometimes be translated into another key. It only happens when I'm typing at full speed and even then only sometimes. It's an annoyance but I can live with it for the benefits it gives. If I could have deducted only half a star I would have as, otherwise, it does exactly what I wanted.

I tried multiple converters to get my new Windows 7 PC to work with my KVM switch. The switch only had PS/2 cables and the PC only had USB. This worked great out of the box. No software install was needed. The extra buttons on my Microsoft trackball even work properly.

As the other reviews have stated this adapter works as described. I wasn't sure if it would work with a Mac, but it has been working perfectly. No lag time between keystrokes and no confusion when hitting shift+another key. PS/2 keyboard is a microsoft (purchased 10+ years ago).

I have some old Acer Ergo 61 keyboards that I love, which have built in trackpads. Bought a new computer that does not have ps/2 ports and runs Windows 7. Bought both the Adesso and the [...] converters since tney both have great reviews.
Adesso looked nicer, and loaded fully, but the trackpad didn't work. Startech was in a simpler, cheaper package, but the trackpad works very well. you can guess which one I'm keeping.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard, which I have liked a lot, but it only had one PS/2 port which would not work with my KVM switch. I tried a PS/2 splitter which did not work. This is a Fedora server and because of the KVM problem, could only be accessed remotely. Another USB to PS/2 splitter did not work, nor did a single PS/2 to USB adapter. This has done the trick. Yeah!

I needed to hook up an older PS/2 keyboard to a USB port on the laptop docking station at work. This cable wasn't the cheapest but had good reviews, so I bit the bullet and went for it.
The keyboard I'm using is a Dell SK-8110. In the top right hand corner of the keyboard there are 3 lights labeled Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. At seemingly random intervals and for no apparently obvious reason, all 3 lights blink and my keystroke at that instant is not echoed to the screen. It is kind of annoying, so just be aware that this cable does work, but may experience the same behavior as I'm getting. Buyer beware. Hope that helps. Happy computing!

I rely on Amazon reviews and appreciate that people take the time to post such valuable and detailed feedback. And such was the case with reviews on this item as well. I am very appreciative to the reviewer "GBriggs" who posted about the difference between an adapter that actually changes the signal verses a plug converter that does not. The reviews on many of the plug convertors were so mixed whereas once I started reading reviews on adapters, then I knew this was what I needed to purchase. I have a beloved PS/2 MS keyboard and mouse from my 10 year old desktop which I just replaced with a 17" HP Pavilion DV7 Win 7 64 bit laptop that I plan to use as a desktop replacement. Only USB ports on the new laptop so needed a way to connect the old board/mouse. The StarTech USBPS2PC arrived, removed it from the package, connected the board/mouse to the correct plug ends, then plugged the unit into my USB hub on the new laptop and voila. As simple as that. It is doing what I need it to do and eventually when this keyboard/mouse die, then will replace them with USB or wireless versions. But for now, this is exactly what I needed. One note that a previous reviewer mentioned is that although the end plugs are not the usual PS/2 purple or green color coded, there are symbols embossed on the plug ends that show which is for the keyboard and which is for the mouse. It might take a magnifying glass to see it but they are marked.
