I ordered this power supply because it was labeled as a Dell replacement power supply. The instruction manual in the box had a compatibility chart. My Dell model was not on the list and of course it did not work with my Dell. Here is the list that is in the instruction manual.

Dimension compatible models: 3000 / 3100 / 4600 / 4700 / 8400 / 9100 / E310 / E510
Optiplex compatible models: GX280
Power Edge compatible models: SC420
Precision Workstation compatible models:370

Hope this helps.

If you research this part, it's common that Dell's will eventually need replacement because the fan gets loud and eventually starts and stops (like mine) and some fans eventually completely stop spinning. This particular fan is connected to the whole power supply. At least they make the power supply stronger than the original which is nice. This part was a perfect fit, very easy to swap out and replug all the power plugs, and the fan is so quiet I had to go back there with a flashlight to make sure it was spinning!

The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars vs 5 is because I've only had it a couple of months and I don't know if it will last (knocks on wood this will last years). If it lasts years, I fully give the product and the company that sent it 5 stars.

Quick shipping, competitive pricing, HAD IT IN STOCK which even Dell didn't have it in stock (I told you Dell's original version of this part breaks down a lot!), and a perfect fit. Saved me from having to buy a new computer (whew!).

Update: 6/12 Well, the fan died. Now I have to buy another one of these :(

Although it's not advertised as compatible with the Dell Dimension 5100, I was able to replace the power supply in about 10 minutes with this and it fit perfectly and works perfectly. Really easy, and I'm not highly skilled in hardware installations.

My Dell was dead - when you pushed the power button literally nothing happened. The only sign of life was a green light on the motherboard. Google searches were inconclusive but pointed to either a bad mother board or a bad power supply unit (PSU). I decided to try this new PSU as opposed to spending $500 or so on a new computer, and I'm happy I did... our computer is up and running.

One note - the old power supply on my computer said it was rated to 305 watts and this one is 350 watts. Near as I can tell, as long as you buy the minimum wattage, it doesn't matter if your new PSU goes up higher - that just means it can supply more power if it's needed.

Hope this helps!

I ordered this as a replacement for a bad PSU on my friend's Dell Dimension E510. This unit is more than adequate to replace the OEM 305W PSU installed at the factory. All connectors were provided, with the 24 pin connector an exact match to the 24 pin header on the system board. I had at first tried a different brand PSU which had a 20+4 pin connector. This unit did not work, although I am not sure if this was due to the 20+4 pin config. The wire with the connector to the SATA hard drive wasn't long enough as bundled, but I clipped one of the wire bundle ties, and that did the trick. Plus, after clipping the tie, the additional SATA connector would definitely extend to a second HDD. This E510 doesn't have one so that issue is moot.

I enthusiastically endorse this StarTech unit as a replacement for the original PSU on the Dell Dimension E510.

The unit fit my computer just fine. There were a couple of differences of output connectors but no problem. By undoing one connector at a time while replacing with new ones, the process was painless.

This was a perfect replacement for the original part that failed on my Dell Dimension 8400. It was very easy to install. So far, it appears that it works as well if not better than the original. As mentioned in the other review, it is wisper quite. The fan is hardly audible. From doing some research online, it appears this is a better product than the refurbished part that Dell sells through its website, and the cost difference is negligible.

I inherited a Dell Computer without a power supply so I went online and found this one. The description online said it was a perfect match for the computer and it is. It only took me a few minutes to install the new power supply in the computer was running again. I haven't had any troubles with it at all and I highly recommend it for other people.
