5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Little USB Hub
Compact, and very good. It's the fourth USB hub I've owned and easily the best. It handles mixed USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 well. And it hasn't had the problems of dropped connections that some others have. I haven't needed to use the power supply, but its a nice small one that doesn't block outlets on a power strip.

3.0 out of 5 stars problems with multiple devices

I have three USB 2.0 powered hubs, and the other two (different brand) sometimes drop the connection and sometimes don't provide enough power and shut down a port or two. That never happens with this one. Always works. Nice and small too. But mostly, it works.

This is my 5th plus USB 2.0 External Hub and I finally found one that meets or exceeds expectations. The 5 front ports sit vertically so several flash drives fit without getting in each other's way, while the 2 back ports sit in the traditional horizontal direction. The 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub sounded extravagant, until I started to think of the 4 USB Flask drives (256 MB to 4 GB capacity)I wanted to use with a portable USB hard drive (another great product), the digital camera and the memory stick card reader, and a PDA. I bought one, was very pleased, so now I'm buying my second. The power supply stays out of the way and allows all those USB devices to exchange data without sibling rivalry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, May 12, 2007
This review is from: StarTech.com ST7200USB i.Connect 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub (Personal Computers)
I have been using this product for a while now, with all 7 USB ports used up, and I really enjoy the USB hub. I have two external hard drives, a keyboard, a mouse, an iPod cord, a Printer, and a Card Reader, and they all work together just fine. I do use the option of the external power supply to the USB port, and Im not sure what happens if it wasnt plugged in, but I would recommend using the power supply if you can. You do get a slight decrease in speed using this device, however. I wanted to transfer data between my two hard drives that are both plugged in to the USB port. the transfer rate was slower by 25% then if I had just had them both plugged into my computer directly. Not a huge difference, but enough so I noticed. Overall, this is a great product for a low price.

The product works great. The only complaint is the usb cord to plug the unit into the computer is pretty short.

3.0 out of 5 stars problems with multiple devices, October 6, 2007

I hooked up a hard drive, iPhone, iPod, scanner, and mouse. All products worked, and even though the mouse and scanner are USB 1.1 and the other devices are USB 2, the USB 2 devices worked at high speed. However, occasionally the connection to one or more devices you drop for a second, or for just enough time for my computer to think the device had been unplugged and plugged back it. This is usually annoying, but problematic when it happends when using the device (e.g., when syncing the iPhone or when writing to or reading from the hard drive). This problem happened even when I unplugged the scanner and mouse and only left the USB 2 devices plugged in, and the hub was powered from the AC adapter when it the problems happened.

Too bad, beccause the hub is compact and otherwise convenient.

Bought this from Amazon on September 1, 2007. Worked great for about 3-1/2 months. It burned up (well, not quite, just got extremely hot) and quit working on 12/14/2007.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke within the Week, September 9, 2007
This review is from: StarTech.com ST7200USB i.Connect 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub (Personal Computers)
The hub worked fine for a few days, I was very happy with it. BUt one day when I turned on my computer windows kept telling me that I had an unrecognized USB device, and that none of my items plugged in through the USB hub were being recognized. I reached down and noticed the unit was very hot, too hot to touch, and was a fire hazard. I'm returning it and buying a name-brand hub, costs a little more but obviously worth it. Avoid this product.

I'm very happy with my hub. It runs cool, is easy to use, and was also easy to install.
