I used this to transfer all of my files from my old PC to a new laptop (XP to Windows 7). The problem came in getting the transfer to start; neither computer could "decide" which one needed to be connected first, so there was a little crapshoot there. Once the transfer began, I didn't have to do anything - but it did take nearly 8 hours. The biggest downfall, besides the time of the transfer, is that you can't do anything on either system while this is in progress. My suggestion? Do it before you head to bed.

Needed to move data from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. The cable worked as advertised. Just launched the Windows transfer software, connected the two computers and the rest was automatic. Never use a CD/DVD again.

Worked perfectly to transfer user settings from an older XP PC to a new Windows 7 PC. But, directions were poor and included CD software was useless. Finally figured out what to do using Microsoft's knowledge Base.

StarTech Easy Transer Cable does exactly what it is suppose to. Transferred files and pictures very easily from my older computer using Vista to my new one using Windows 7. Much better than paying Best Buy $100.00 to do about the same.

After I purchased a new computer, I was going to have to transfer my files by using flash drives, etc. which would have taken me at least a couple of long sessions. With the Easy Transfer Cable, I hooked up both computers, started the process, and left it alone to do its work overnight. The next morning Eureka It was done.
