Stumbled onto this deal by accident. I see two buyers for this guitar: the total beginner (Mom, Dad, it's only $85 shipped and no tax) and the tinkerer (holy cow I need another project and its only $85 shipped and no tax) It comes with an amp, so think $60 guitar $25 amp? For the beginner: I would say no. What? Well, simply because when you are learning, a single humbucker guitar with one volume control is really limited. Sure Eddie does it, but are you Eddie? (I play more like Maiden Eddie) Its a very metal guitar so it might not fit with church, Glee, Hannah Montana or High School Musical. But this is a great cheap guitar. Has an amp (no real comment other than it works and is totally worth the money) The neck is as good as a mid level Squier; no skunk stripe but nicely finished medium jumbo frets; thick rosewood fretboard. The body is full size, and 1 5/8" thick which makes it the same thickness as most Squiers. For the beginner, I would say get the Strat because you'll get better tones from experimenting with 3 pickups. For the tinkerer: Holy cow what a deal. Looks like an 80's Charvel to me. Total hair metal, now that Fender owns Charvel. Even has a vintage "small" Strat headstock. Solid body, with a top load hardtail bridge; the top load may be the only negative. Tuners are old style, and humbucker will have to replaced. Frets are smooth; no shape edges. The headstock is painted black, so it would be easy to change. Already got the Charvel decal ready, a SD Slash humbucker, and some tuners waiting. This is the year's best deal.
I bought this with no expectations what so ever. I was pleasantly surprised when the guitar was of better quality than I assumed it would be. The amp is decent as well. It is going to knock your socks off? No. Do you just want to play/goof around or learn the electric guitar? Then this package is for you. It was a steal at $95 and I don't regret it at all.
