The love affair of Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones,
This review is from: Star-crossed (Paperback)
Having been a fan of both Robert Walker and Jennifer Jone's films, I decided to read this book to find out the story of their marriage and life together. It is a very touching and sad story about the Hollywood couple who were really star-crossed lovers. I highly recommend this book to any of their fans. Itwas really good, I'd give it more stars if I could.

Tragedy of Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones,
By Walter Wheeler (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star-crossed (Paperback)
Robert Walker had been seen as a tragic figure long before he met his untimely death at the age of 32 at the hands of his psychiatrist. However, author Beverly Linet provides the background, insight, and obvious compassion in attempting to understand him. His relationship with girlfriend, then wife, then former wife Jennifer Jones, is fully explored. Jennifer Jones' life has also had its' share of heartbreak. The author is able to build suspense even when the reader knows the ending. Excellent book, well paced, insightful, and an excellent resource on the life of Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones.

This review is from: Star-crossed (Paperback)
This is a haunting book, for the sake of the persons involved in the story, especially Robert Walker. At first it seemed overly harsh and biased against Jennifer Jones, but that changes as her story unfolds, especially near the end of the book. She did not participate, so her side of the story is pretty much untold. But it is possible to read betweeen the lines. By the end of the book I did feel sympathy for her, despite the author's obvious bias against her. As for the writing style, this isn't the best written biography I've read. There are errors and contradictions and ommisions. Also a bit too much author intrustion. But it is well worth reading for the insight it gives into what it was like to be under contract during the time of the Hollywood star making system. What happened to Robert Walker, a gifted actor and damaged soul, upon entering into that system is truly heartbreaking.

As a long time Robert Walker fan and Classic Hollywood buff, I was delighted to find this biography, which is out of print. It brings together a lot of sources to tell the story of one of Hollywood's dream couples and gives insight into the Hollywood studio system. It also integrates a lot of material about their most famous films. The Clock,Strangers on a Train (Two-Disc Special Edition)],][[ASIN:B00008LDO7 The Song of Bernadette For additional, up to date info on Robert Walker, see also the wonderful website [...]. Both sources compliment each other quite well
