The best gift you could give your family or new parents!,
By Jacqueline A. Noel (Hardwick, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Dreamer: Nightsongs & Lullabies (Audio CD)
This was given to me by my sister upon the birth of my first child, and I never dreamed how signifant a gift it would become. It has lived through eleven years and three of my children, and is and always will be everyone's favorite. The sound of Ms. Herdman's voice immediately brings soothing and comfort to our household at night, no matter how hectic the day has been. Sometimes when I hear her songs, I don't know whether to smile or cry, as they bring up such wonderful memories of rocking my children to sleep. It has become my staple gift to new parents, and I offer confidently, knowing that they, too, will soon be in love with it.

Lullabies that are not just for children,

This is the CD that made me a dyed-in-the-wool Priscilla Herdman fan. Her voice is amazing -- clear, soothing and simply beautiful. And so are these songs. This CD is a complete, flowing musical experience--Priscilla calls herself a "song finder," and this is a testament to her extraordinary abilities not only as a vocalist but also as a selector of just the right tunes in just the right order. I don't have children or grandchildren: This album is just for me!

The Magic CD,

A friend sent this as a baby gift and it's one of the best items we received. When nothing else calms our now-18-month-old, this CD does the trick.
The songs are uncomplicated and lovely, quiet yet full. Unlike other children's CDs we've heard, Herdman's voice and music are not cloying or sacchrine. While I wouldn't list "folk" among my favorite types of music, I find this CD charming and quite classic. I'm wary about buying "kid music" b/c it seems so manufactured and false. If you feel the same way, please sample some of these songs and hear that this CD is really an extraordinary choice for you and your child.

wore out the cassette,

I am a preschool teacher who played this audio tape until it wore out! I agree with another reviewer who said the arrangements are in a low voice, which means most people can sing along comfortably. Waltzing with Bears was one of the children's favorites but I loved Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It's a round. How many rounds do you hear on an album? Very intricate and harmonious. I highly recommend this work

Beautifully arranged lullabies with a Celtic flavor.,

We received this CD as a baby gift, and I have continued that tradition with other new parents. This is the most wonderful collection of lullabies with beautiful instrumental accompaniment. Ms. Herdman's voice is superb, and I still sing these songs to my 5-year-old!

When I was 5 years old my mother bought Stardreamer on a cassette tape, and over the years I treasured that tape and played it countless times. I know each of the songs by heart, and even now as an adult I'll sometimes sing the songs to myself. They always make me happy. It's been almost 20 years since I first listened to Stardreamer, and I know that when I have children of my own, they will love it as much as I have. (November 21, 2005)UPDATE 9/26/2011 - I had my first child in January 2008, and bought this CD just before she was born. She has listened to it hundreds of times over the last 3.5 years and loves it just as much as I do :)

I'm laughing reading all the reviews where you guys say "My kid is five and he's still listening." I'm 17 and I'm still listening! My copy of this is so old it's still on tape, and it's getting very scratchy in some places. But this is the tape I put on if I've had a bad day, and it just knocks me out. I'm planning on taking it with me to college next year! (Wonder what my roommate will think of that. . . )

Heavenly,

I first bought the cassette version of this tape in 1988. It quickly became my children's favorite to play while rocking them to sleep. I am now purchasing a copy for my sister and her new baby, and a copy for my children, so they will use it with their children in the future. We especially love the songs: Waltzing with Bears and Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Stardreamer: Essential in Past and Present,
By Lisa D. (U.S.A.) - See all my reviews

When I was a little girl, my parents would put this in my CD player and I would fall asleep listening. Now as an 18 year old, if I am having a particularly heinous day or am having a difficult time relaxing enough to sleep, I listen and hum along to my favorite songs and I am almost instantly transported back to my "childhood." What a wonderful compilation of soothing tracks and Ms. Herdman's voice only adds to the calming ambiance. As a child who was exposed to this CD at an early age and has enjoyed it for many years, I cannot recommend nor praise Stardreamer enough!

This CD was frequently the only thing that calmed my 3 babies, even when they were sick, this CD would lull them to sleep. My oldest would demand "wa-wa bears" as soon as she could talk!
I give this CD to every new mom I know, and it's worked for them as well! |
