4.0 out of 5 stars Another good x-wing book
Mr. Alston has done it again with his newest addition to the x-wing series. He has made me laugh. Stackpole, who really is the master of the x-wing books (but let's not get into that) hasn't really made me laugh. Alston has. At first, I hated this book. I actually bought it four or five months ago, but just now got around to reading it again, and deciding I liked it...

3.0 out of 5 stars The X-Wing series ends with a whimper
After reading Isard's Revenge (Star Wars, X-Wing #8) and now Starfighters of Adumar, I really wish they had ended the X-Wing series on the high note that was Solo Command (Star Wars, X-Wing #7) (Book 7). As much as I enjoyed the series and Aaron Allston's books in particular, there just wasn't any reason for this story.

In this book, a new planet with a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good x-wing book, January 13, 2000
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
Mr. Alston has done it again with his newest addition to the x-wing series. He has made me laugh. Stackpole, who really is the master of the x-wing books (but let's not get into that) hasn't really made me laugh. Alston has. At first, I hated this book. I actually bought it four or five months ago, but just now got around to reading it again, and deciding I liked it. This book grows on you. At first, I was disapointed that most of the Rogues/Wraiths weren't mentioned, because the story centers on Wedge, Tycho, Wes and Hobbie, but then I realized that we don't get enough of these characters. Wedge has depth in this book, a personality. Hobbie actually has lines. Heck, Hobbie has *sentances* in this book! A major improvement from other books. Tycho and Wes are their loyal and loveable selves accordingly.

Wedge, who had just broken up with Qwi, finds he needs a vacation, but before he can go off, Gen. Cracken sends him and the other three off to the newly-discovered planet of Adumar, where pilots are almost worshiped, and fighting is the law of the land. They are sent to try and get Adumar to join the NR, for reason of which Adumar has large proton torpedo producing facilities. (Or they may have large missle facilities, it isn't really important.) While on planet, Wedge and friends get a body guard, Cheris, and a two headed lady. (Long story, read the book) Wedge also meets up with an old friend, and a lot of loose ends are tied up. Also the gang of fighter pilots cross-dresses, and Hobbie shrieks like a woman. (Just read it.) ~Nishana

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, February 23, 2000
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was hilarious. It was nice to see Wedge finally taken care of (I'm avoiding spoilers). It was also nice to see a Wedge being a rogue, and him having fun for once (and later kicking the bad guys' rears!). I think it's one of the best Star Wars books written. I love Mr. Allston was able to combine both his usual great sense of humor and a more serious view on everything, all the while introducing a new situation that our wonderful Rogues haven't gone through before. This is a great standalone book, however, I encourage anyone to read all of the books. It'll make more sense. Anyways, how can you say no to a good, funny book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read All About It!, December 23, 1999
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
Packed full of all the humor and action of a truly honorable read. This story gives us a look on the characteristics of the relatively unknown pilots of the Alliance and gives us a well played out story plot for them to revolve around.Even if you haven't read the other 8, don't be discouraged, this is a book for everyone. It involves tense gripping dogfights in the sky and yes, even political problems are fleshed into the story. Don't worry though, humor is regularly fueled throughout the story:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Conclusion to the X-Wing Series A+ book, February 29, 2004

This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
Starfighters of Adumar marks the final book in the X-Wing series. Written by Aaron Allston, Starfighters of Adumar focuses on a mission undertaken by General Wedge Antilles, Colonel Tycho Celchu, Major Wes Jansen & Major Hobbie Klivian to the planet of Adumar, a place that venerates starfighter pilots. Once there the pilots find that not only are things different from what they were told but the Imperials are also vying for the planet. To top it off, their only way to stay alive depends on the undercover Intelligence agent Iella Wessiri who is not exactly feeling happy with Antilles these days. A fun book, Allston fills the pages with a well-contrived plot, sharp dialogue, heart pounding action and a strong dose of humor. This is one of the finest books in the X-Wing series and leaves the reader wishing that Allston and Stackpole would both return to the X-wing cockpit to expand on the adventures of these elite fighter pilots.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review from one who's read 'em all., March 9, 2001
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
*caution this review contains at least one tiny spoiler*

Aside from the fact that I've read over 54 novels in the Star Wars series, I have to say this is one of my favorites. I've always loved the X-wing books and am quite possibly one of the biggest Wedge fans around, so Starfighters of Adumar scored big with me. This book finaly shows what our favorite rouges are like out of the cockpit, focausing on Wedge, Wes, Tycho, and Hobbie. From Wes being the ladies-man to Wedge finding new love, (yes, he does break-up with Qwi, and there was much rejoicing) It's radiant blend of comedy, action, and of course, a dog-fight or two made this a book I couldn't put down. Not to mention the colorful backdrop of the planet Adumar, a world where famous X-wing jocks like are heros are treated like royality, and grand balls and blastsorwd duels are common place provides a varity of challenges for Wedge and the gang. With a fast-paced plot and a pages of comedy, I recomend Starfighers of Adumar to all fans of the galexy far, far, away. Whether you're a seasoned reader like me, or if you're starting out, this is an awsome book. My only regrets are that there isn't anymore to this great novel, and that poor Wedge never got the relaxing vaction he wanted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stackpole is better, but these is amazingly great, July 19, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
I still think that Stackpole is the King of Xwing, but these book is certainly a great one, it is full of thrilling battles and you find a good dose of humorous dialogue. These combination provides a plot that becomes intriguing and interesting, but stays fresh and dinamic. Other nice thing is that you do not need to read the whole X wing series before reading it, since the development of the plot and characters has quite an autonomy.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GREAT BOOK!, December 14, 1999
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutly loved this book! I couldn't put it down. Finally some insight on BOTH Wedge's and Iella's feelings for one another. The comic relief from Janson and Hobbie helped a lot during tense moments, Tycho's outlook on the situations helped me understand parts of the book, and Wedge was typical until that scene where he finally finds the sort of happiness he's been looking for. ALL IN ALL GREAT BOOK!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent end to the X-wing series, June 20, 2004

Where as the previous X-Wing books had a whole squadron to talk about (Rouge and Wraith), this one got a little bit more intimate in that only four of the pilots are featured (Wedge, Tycho, Janson, and Hobbie). This provides for a more "intimate" character development, especially with Wedge, and his relationships with Qwi and eventually Iella. Wedge is known as the everyman in the Sw universe, but he is human, and we get to see that in this book. The backdrop is interesting, with the Adumarian culture who value fighter pilots above all else, an interesting analogy for the X-Wing series. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awwww Yeahhh!!!, October 18, 1999

This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
Can you say "It Rocked"? This book had to be one of my favorite all time Star Wars novels. I am not a huge fan of the multiple plots that jump all around because I find myself drawn to one plot and skim over the others and get bored. The single focus was enjoyable and Allston kept it interesting. Not to mention he used five characters that I all love and finally solved the whole Qwi thing (THANK YOU!!). Not only a good plot but this book had me chuckling though at times it grew a tad too silly. Kudos to you Allston!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another X-Wing Winner, August 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Starfighters of Adumar (Star Wars: X-Wing #9) (Mass Market Paperback)
If it is one thing that this has better than X-wing bk 8, It is a major dose of comic relief. Wes Janson is the core of the novel in that respect, but in all other way's this is Wedge's novel. It expands on his life, love, beliefs, and his character at large. I really wasn't sure if after 8 books and 30 odd X-Wing Comics if Wedge could take much more exposition, but he sure can. While the events of this book may not be as epic as taking Coruscant, Hunting Zinj and Iceheart, and generally making the universe safe, it does not lack in any way action, adventure, suspense, you name it. It really makes me hope for more Allston work in the furture of Star Wars. Also, for fans of the Comics, there is a really cool cameo of Baron Fel's wingman, Phennir.
