Wonderful!,
This review is from: Starfinder (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of my favorite Patricia Potter books. The characters are so real and face dificulties with honor and strength. One of the most emotional books I've read in a long time. Yes, Hannah, I do believe you were the only one who found this book dull...

Great read until . . .,

Starfinder was a great read and kept me content until the last five chapters. Things slowed way down then and finishing was a push. The ending was too long and the story needed to end about 30 pages sooner. Also, Fancy's reaction to the crisis was a bit too tepid to believe, and the villain was just too bad to believe. Not enough layering, no real dimension--flat. Had he been better developed, the ending might have had better pacing. Otherwise, I've heard great things about Patricia Potter and I fully intend to read the rest of her books. She's clearly a gifted writer and we need all those we can get!

WOW! Great book!,
This review is from: Starfinder (Mass Market Paperback)
Patricia Potter has done it again. I was hooked on the first page, and couldn't put it down until the very last page. I became a fan of her westerns and didn't know if I'd like these as well since they aren't in the west, but I think she's gotten even better, shen I didn't think it was possible! All I have to say is, "Thank you, Ms Potter!"

My first Potter book but not my last!,

Patricia Potter has created a plot that will have your attention from beginning to end. The story of Ian's tragic loss of family and country catches you and pulls you in. The love relationship between Fancy and Ian is one to treasure! Don't plan on scheduling activities once you start this book. What a treat for me to have discovered this author. Now I will be going back for her other books.

The Amazon review on this page describes this novel as a depressing read and I could NOT disagree more. This is one of the finest romances I've read ever and after I read it, I flipped back to the beginning and read it again. Then I went and read it's successor, Star Keeper, just to find the parts that had these characters in it to read more about them.Ian Sutherland is the gorgeous, tortured heroic lead in this novel that can do no wrong. Called a traitor by his country, he is saved from hanging moments after watching his brother die for the same crime. Then he finds himself shipped to the Americas as an indentured servant. He has lost his home, his heritage and everything he holds dear. The only hope he has is that he has a little sister, Katy, who might be lost in the wilds of Scotland and he dreams of returning home to find her. A twist of fate lands him in front of kind, gentle-hearted John Marsh, who purchases his indenture as he is in desperate need himself. Ian soon finds himself alone with the Marsh family when John succumbs to a long-term illness and passes in his sleep, only days after delivering Ian to his small farm. Ian struggles to resist the debt he feels to the Marsh family- the beautiful, sweet and vulnerable Fancy Marsh, her quiet and reclusive mute sister, her two adorable children and a household of strange and unusual pets. Ian soon finds himself willing to put his life on the line for Fancy while she struggles against the ferocious advances of her brother-in-law and the day-to-day struggles of her farm. What follows is an epic tale of love and romance which made my heart swell with warmth. This novel celebrates the healing aspects of family. Watching Ian come to life was truly beautiful. Watching Ian and Fancy fall in love was exquisite. I'm not sure how this story could have been improved. Highly recommended. The other two books in the Star series are also very wonderful... and my favorite novel from Potter is still "Relentless" - another tale of the power of love to heal the wounded heart.

It's always difficult to understand a bad review on something you really enjoyed, be it a book, movie, etc.. I am NOT a big scots fan...accent, history or any of the above. BUT Potter is an incredible author and her stories are nearly always worth reading. I read this not even knowin it was part of a trilogy. The characters are wonderful with depth, issues, angst and all the things that good characters have. The children and the animals always add a delightful dimension and often insight. They have a way of pulling the characters out of their emotional dungeon and into the world. And people are often at their best with them.I never understood why Ian had such a young sister. He was intent on searching for "katy" but the age thing was a bit puzzling. Knowing the bad guy wasn't a problem because he was powerful and you never knew how Ian was going to help Fancy get out of his grasp. Francy's pain at not being able to read...when we take it so for granted...was an interesting twist. I highly recommend this book. I am currently reading the star sequel which is the little boy Noel's story. While it is also very good it doesn't have the multifacets that this one does. yet they're both keepers..............p.s. yes, hannah, you are the only one who didn't like this book! :)

A little slow,
By
This review is from: Starfinder (Mass Market Paperback)
I read all this book but it was an easy one to put down because it was slow and the plot was thin and the dialog repetitious! I found myself wanting to go to my library shelf to find a faster paced book that was a lot more interesting. I guess the simplest way to explain it is... It wasn't the most horrible book I have ever read but it wasn't the best either.

Story-telling at its best!,

As always,Patricia Potter pens a novel that involves the reader instantly in the lives of her characters. In STARFINDER, she excels in portraying the emotions that torments the lovers, and yet keeps them realistic. Kudos to Ms Potter for giving us yet another classic love story!

Dullsville.................,

O.k. Was I the only one who didn't think this book was great. The book dragged! The first 100 pages were just a struggle to get through. Then the last 200 were a struggle. A book needs to hold the attention of the reader and let me tell you that this did not. Every little distraction that came my way was a welcome repreive. I had heard such good things about this book from reading the below reviews and was really looking forward to a good book. But if you are looking for a good book, PASS THIS ONE UP. It was just plain dull and the middle cannot make up for the boring beginning and end.
