This without a doubt is my choice for albumof the year.Does killer versions of Journey's "Edage of the Blade". "Burn by Deep Purple", & "Break it up" by Foreigner. The title track is just amazing. Jorn Lande has an awesome voice. This CD is a must have... If you are a fain of Rainbow, Whitesnake, Purple, etc you will be impressed.. This was the CD of the year for me.

One of the finest voices to emerge in rock in recent times is the Norwegian born Jorn Lande, whose impressive CV includes his career with The Snakes(Neil Murray and Bernie Marsden from Whitesnake),his bands Millennium and the more experimental Ark,and his short stint with Yngwie Malmsteen,to name only a few of his accomplishments. This is his first solo album, comprising covers and originals:while his versions of the Journey and Deep Purple classics are nothing short of exceptional, the original songs present him as an accomplished songwriter in his own right. The overall musical tone of the album is one of fusing metal with progressive, blues and pop,all in the right amount for a great listening experience.

Jorn debuts his solo career with a pomp-melodic hard rock diamond!!,

"Starfire" is the debut solo album by Norwegian rock/metal singer Jorn Lande ("Ark", "Masterplan") originally released in 2000. Under the guidance of "Frontiers records", Jorn records a solo debut with half of its tracks being cover versions of classics of "Journey", "Foreigner" and "Deep Purple" amongst others. So, in terms of approach, "Starfire" has very little to do with the progressive metal of "Ark" or the power metal of "Masterplan"; instead through this debut Jorn explores pomp melodic hard rock, being the musical style that defines the release. Those familiar with the man's music are probably aware that beyond his vocal charisma, the Norwegian singer has the ability to reinvent each and every song he covers, and in this case delivers powerful versions of such classics as "Burn", "Edge of the blade" and "Break it up". Although limited, the original material on "Starfire" stand as a good indicator of the musical style that Jorn's solo career would follow in the coming years. For that matter the self titled track is the debut's greatest moment and one of the greatest songs the singer has ever come up with delivering drama, romanticism and attack, all emanating from Jorn's ever-dynamic performance. Overall "Jorn-Starfire" is a top pomp melodic release, holding its own over ten years past its release.

Solo debut from the voice of melodic rock and metal,

The 2000 release Starfire is the debut solo offering from journeyman vocalist Jorn Lande (ex-Vagabond, the Snakes, Millenium, Ark, Masterplan, Mundanus Imperium, Beyond Twilight, and a few others I've no doubt missed). For those of you unfamiliar with Jorn, his vocal style is very (scratch that, VERY) reminiscent of David Coverdale with elements of Ronnie James Dio and Phil Lynott. Jorn has become one of melodic rock and metal's best vocalists through both his session work as well as his solo career.Starfire is not your typical debut album, since there is a 60/40 split between original material and cover songs. Jorn isn't shy about paying tribute to his influences, and Edge of the Blade (Journey), Break It Up (Foreigner), The Day the Earth Caught Fire (City Boy), and especially Burn (Deep Purple) all show just what kind of music drives the man. These impressive covers are balanced by equally impressive original compositions. Jorn, alongside former bandmates Ronnie LeTekro (TNT), Tore Ostby (Conception), and Ralph Santolla (Millenium), and others have come up with some first rate melodic hard rock songs that take Jorn's AOR roots and add a metal edge. The best of these new songs is the title track, which has an epic feel and remains one of Jorn's best songs. Anyone interested in classic and/or modern melodic rock and metal really needs to check out Jorn Lande's powerful solo material, and Starfire is the ideal place to start (though it is getting tougher to find these days). The best part is that future Jorn albums just keep getting better and better. |
