Apple Pro Peeler Parts
Apple Pro Peeler Parts

Step 1. Identify individual operating parts. Unit includes handle, protective cover for the blade and spike holder, peeling arm, rotating disk and suction cup feet.

Step 2. Anchor suction cup feet on a smooth, flat surface. Carefully remove protective plastic covers from steel prongs turning mechanism and peeling blade.

Step 3. Turn handle so that the peeling blade lines up at the bottom of the steel prongs mechanism. Mount apple on machine by pushing base of apple into the steel prongs.

Step 4. To peel an apple, gently turn handle clockwise to begin peeling. Continue turning until the peeling arm has turned a full 360 degrees back to its original position. Remove apple.

Step 5. Rinse steel prongs and peeling blade under running water and dry with a kitchen towel. Wipe other soiled areas with a sponge and dry. Do not place unit in dishwasher. Replace steel prongs and peeling blade protective covers when not in use. When storing, keep out of reach of children.

5.0 out of 5 stars looks cheap but works better than the standard kind October 16, 2007
This is a really good apple peeler. The blade is wider than in standard peelers (the red ones where you put the apple sideways) so it peels the apple faster. It peels around the top and bottom of the apple, missing only the parts right above and below the core, so after coring the apple there's no skin left--no touch-ups required. It comes with a corer, a corer/slicer, two extra blades, and little plastic covers for the blade and prongs. It's easy to clean.

The cons: It looks like it belongs in a toy chest, so if you pride yourself on your beautiful Martha Stewart kitchen you're going to want to put this away after using it rather than leave it displayed. It doesn't work well at all on potatoes--even when you cut them in half first, it still misses lots of spots and carves them into apple shapes. There are four plastic suction cups on its base to keep it from moving while you're using it, and you have to wet them to make them work. It only takes a few drops of water, though, and then they work fine.

I love mine and use it all the time. For me, the cons are outweighed by the usefulness of being able to peel, core, and slice an apple in seven seconds. I'll never go back to a sideways peeler.

5.0 out of 5 stars A better apple peeler! September 26, 2007
I have had the apple peeler style with the red handle for about 12 years, and when the prongs that hold the apples started to break off, I finally had an excuse to get rid of it. It had the following problems. 1: The metal screw that twisted to push the apple got black stuff all over your hands when you touched it, which was neccessary to get the apples on and off the prongs. Not something desirable when working with food. 2: To core the apples, they had to be sliced very thinly, not optimal for pies, for example. 3: It didn't work well on small or irregularly shaped apples. This clear plastic apple peeler allows you to peel the apples, then slice them however you want. It peels apples faster than the other, and it comes with a corer that doesn't require slicing, and a corer/slicer that cuts the apples into eigths. Both work well. All the tools were effective even for odd shaped apples. I'm thrilled with it! The only small flaw was that water got inside when I washed it. This was pretty easy to get around. There are a couple of screws that allow the device to be disassembled and reassembled quickly and easily. Even if the plastic or the razor don't hold up well over time, I'll happily buy 10 of these before I ever buy another of the other kind.

I was a bit apprehensive in purchasing this item due to its whimsical appearance, but I must say I'm glad I did. It works flawlessly doing what it was meant to do, and for the price, you just can't beat it.

I got this when we went through an apple eating phase. It strips the apple quick and with little mess. I've since starting using a regular potato peeler because I find it faster.
