5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves more than 5 stars - every fan of SGA needs to read this book!
Wow is the first thing that comes to mind. I was totally surprised at just how good this was. I've read books before that are based on TV or Movies, and they're usually ok. This blew me away - better than the tv shows and other books I've read so far. If this could be made into an episode it would really be something amazing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its an okay story
Well, after reading the reviews I was really excited about this book. I did pay quite a bit for it, never did that for a book before, but I love the tv show and the reviews on the book were excellent. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed with the story. I had a hard time getting into it, and following along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves more than 5 stars - every fan of SGA needs to read this book!, July 10, 2007
This review is from: Stargate Atlantis: Exogenesis (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow is the first thing that comes to mind. I was totally surprised at just how good this was. I've read books before that are based on TV or Movies, and they're usually ok. This blew me away - better than the tv shows and other books I've read so far. If this could be made into an episode it would really be something amazing.

The characterization is just wonderful, especially Rodney - some of the writing brought tears to my eyes and anyone who knows me knows that's not easy to do. The new characters that are brought in are very well written, and really bring a lot to the story - they are not just background scenery. The interpersonal interactions between all the main characters, as well as some of the secondary characters, were so dead on and made this story so much more real than any of the episodes I've seen or books I've read in the SGA-verse so far.

The plot is definitly intriguing and keeps you guessing all they way through to the very end. Once you think you have it figured out you're surprised again and again. It's hard for me to even discuss as I just finished it last night and I'm kind of digesting the story still.

And I'm not gushing just because I'm a fan of SGA. I read a lot books in a variety of genres from sci-fi to classics. I'm very well versed in literature and writing in general. This book IS that good.

Every fan of SGA must read this book! Even if you aren't a fan of novels based on tv shows, you won't regret reading this one - and if you don't you would certainly regret it if you knew what you were missing out on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by these two authors!, February 23, 2007

This second collaboration between Sonny Whitelaw and Elizabeth Christensen is more exhilarating than the first. Exogenesis engulfs us into a world most of us are already familiar with, though I believe this story is able to stand on its own. With a few references from past SGA episodes as well as SG1 Episodes, the plotline constantly moves as the team is split up to handle their respective situations serving one greater goal. The setting has a much larger scope in this storyline as the SGA crew set out to save the entire Pegasus galaxy.

The character personalities and interaction are dead on. We even get to see a side of McKay that doesn't reveal itself too much. We also get a rare view of the Ancients and find out how "human" they really are.

The story explores the impact on a society when their beliefs are shattered in almost an instant. While this society is dealing with this, at the same time they have to avoid becoming the next meal of the Wraith.

I would highly recommend any book by either of these two. Their grasp on this wordly concept is phenomenal. It's as if they are writers for the actual show.

Sonny and Elizabeth, I can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I want from a tie-in!, July 20, 2009
This review is from: Stargate Atlantis: Exogenesis (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow, what a great book. I mean it. Exactly what I missed in the latest two tie-ins (#10 and #11) - there was team adventure and friendship, not just nonsensical action and things going boom. I loved that not just the team - John, Rodney, Ronon and Teyla - had something to do, but also Elizabeth, Zelenka, Lorne, Carson, Caldwell and Halling. Saving Atlantis was a real team effort. I admit that the solution had a bit of a "deus ex machina" feel to it, but they did mostly use techniques applied in various SG-1 and SGA episodes and that was pretty neat. I would love to read more books written by these two authors! I enjoy their portrayal of our favorite heroes.

Well, after reading the reviews I was really excited about this book. I did pay quite a bit for it, never did that for a book before, but I love the tv show and the reviews on the book were excellent. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed with the story. I had a hard time getting into it, and following along.

Heres a glimpse of the storyline: Carson releases an ancient that was found in a pod on the bottom of the Lantean ocean. The ancient, consumed by grief, releases a machine which then drills itself to the core of the planet. Once there it starts to completely change the planet itself (basically resetting everything to 0)releasing nanites that consume and break apart the entire environment. The nanites goal will then turn to eliminating Atlantis, travel through the stargate, and reset the rest of the pegasus galaxy back to 0, pre-creation. Our favorite atlantis team then has to find a way to stop the machine from destroying everything, of course, putting their own lives on the line.

The whole story line just didn't interest me, I found myself saying who cares or whats the point, at certain parts of the story. However, I did enjoy how the characters were described, we do gain some glimpses into the soul of Rodney and John, in other words what makes them tick, but it wasn't enough to make the story worth while.

I have read several other Atlantis books and they have been entertaining, but not great. However, Exogenesis is a fantastic book. The characters are written spot on, and since the story focusesn on Rodney and Radek, it is even better. There are twists and turns in the plot and I really didn't want to put it down. I wish they would have made an episode or movie out of this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars On Par with Even the Best Episodes of the Series, November 21, 2011

This might be a review, or it may just be gushing. Forgive me if it ends up being the latter, because this book is amazing.

Here are a few reasons why:

1. The story is extremely multi-faceted, eventually branching out into a number of different sub-stories, all related and tying into one another.
2. The stories themselves are extremely interesting; be prepared for some truly unexpected twists and turns.
3. The characterisation is perfect. I was a bit apprehensive about reading something like this, fearing that the characters I know and love would be somewhat different here, as the authors might not be acquainted with the show on a level that would afford them the ability to write for the characters properly. My heaven was I wrong. I'd actually say that the characterisation in this book is more consistent than in the latter half of the show itself.
4. Many things are foreshadowed, making the inevitable payoffs immensely satisfying and surprising.
5. It's all perfectly canonical.
6. The 'Turpi' character. (Seriously, what a beautiful sequences of events revolving around her).

Overall, I'd say this book is quite possibly the best 'episode' of Atlantis I've 'seen' since season one. And given the reverence in which I hold that season, there is no higher compliment I could pay.

No fan of Stargate Atlantis should skip this book. Actually, I'd say that, even if you haven't seen the show, the book would still be very much worth the read.
