An Entertaining Adventure that's as Addictive as Cocaine,
By
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
For anyone who is not a fan of the show, let me tell you about my experience with these DVD's. In the spring semester of 2004, my roommate and me were delivered a challenge by a fan of the show: to finish the entirety of Season One before the end of the semester (one week away). Neither of us were fans of the show or had seen any episodes, but we couldn't back down from a challenge, now could we?
We watched the opening pilot and soon found ourselves devouring the first disc of Season One. We were soon back on our fan's doorstep, begging for disc two. We easily lauged away the challenge and, in the process, became thorough fans of the show. The reason is simple: _Stargate_ has good characters and an excellent plot device: the gate. This device provides an endless array of missions and storylines and because this is sci-fi, there are no limits to the imagination. While it certainly is still a television program, these episodes are a lot of fun to watch and you will get addicted. Trust me. You cannot just buy a single season. Just be warned: once you pop, you can't stop. This stuff is like candy.

Love Stargate this deal is bogus,
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
Just to let you all know, if you buy the season box sets separately versus using the complete 1-7 set for $349, you'll save money. On Amazon's own site if you buy them all separately it'll be $292 (w/o shipping) & they're trying to package it for $349!!

I am absolutely entertained with this series. This is by far the best show I have ever seen. I am glad that I bought the series and would recommend to anyone who has an interest with military, space, sc-fi, archeology, or that just likes to be entertained.

I have only been watching on a regular basis since the middle of season 6. Yes I know I've been living under a rock. When I first heard of Stargate all those years ago, I thought it was gonna try and be a Star Trek of Star Wars ripoff, so I never watched it. One day my parents were sitting there watching a movie and I came in at about half way through, it wasn't till the movie was almost over that I found out it was Stargate the movie. I was in shock that I liked it that much. So I want to the video store and rented the movie and the first disk of season one. I fell in love with the show immedietly. At the time I did not have Showtime or Sci-Fi, so I only got to see 1 episode a week from various parts of seasons. A few weeks later after the suspense of what had happened in the series drove me crazy I went and bought seasons 1 and 2 as a present for myself. I then spent the next week wathcing nothing but Stargate: SG-1 when I got home from work. I then watched it over and over again. Unfortunatly I was left in suspense at the end of season 2 and had to wait for 3 to come out. When I finally did I preceeded to watch it just like I did the first. Let me tell you that I had bought the first 3 seasons from a retail store that shall remain nameless for 69.99+tax each. While the seasons are worth more than that to me, I wanted to buy them cheaper. So I went looking through Amazon.com where I have bought every season since. I usually pre-order them and do next day shipping (it's really not that much when you think about how much you would be paying in store for these) and usually it arrives at my house the day that the season hits shelves. Since this review has gone on a lot longer than I'm sure anybody wants to read I will finish quickly here. HOnestly the seasons have been getting better every year. This is a great series that was just recently renued for a year 9 which makes Stargate: SG-1 tied for the longest running science fiction series ever, tied with X-Files. Buy these DVDs, you will not be disappointed.

Beware of the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stargate SG-1,
By
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
I am a huge Stargate SG-1 fan... so dont get me wrong. But the complete season from 1-7 to buy individually is much cheaper than to buy from one of these sellers who try to make some 'profit,' if you know what I mean. Go to bestbuy or even buy the boxed sets 1-7 to a price of $36.99.
I love Stargate and going to buy it as soon as I have enough assets to buy 'em... season 1-8. I loved it when O'Neill was there... still watch it because of Dr. Jackson...

Best Television Science Fiction Series of all time,
By Kim A Miller (Windsor, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
I have been spending some time watching my Stargate SG-1 DVDs (seasons 1-7) and the more I watch them, the more I am convinced that this is the best television Science Fiction series of all time. Let me qualify a few things before making my case.
Other series MIGHT have become the greatest in time, but were cancelled before they came to fruition. So I am leaving those out of the discussion. I am not saying that Stargate is the greatest Science fiction entertainment of all time. It's just a TV show and has all the limitations of TV. It has to build an audience, keep the women interested, etc etc etc, so it has its share of derivative plots, soap opera episodes and all the same elements as any TV Science Fiction. Having said that I present my case. 1) Stargate SG-1 has the best continuity and fewest logical inconsistencies of any SF TV series I have ever seen. Watch the movie. Watch the 7 seasons and you bascially have a single, unfolding, consistent story which slowly evolves. The first time I went through the seasons, I missed many of the cross references to previous episodes. This one factor places it above all of the Star Trek series which are loaded with contradictions and goofs, so many so that many of the Trek cast have done books and tapes exposing all the errors. 2) Stargate SG-1 slowly unfolds and explores a consistent and interesting Science Fiction. The mysteries of the gate, how it works and what it can be used for continue to be explored and expanded. The mysteries of the race that created the gate, earth's own history, ancient cultures and myths are all a part of the journey. This creates a feeling of wonder that gives you something to look forward to and because it is based in our time and our history, it creates an engaging framework. 3) Stargate SG-1 is among the best of the series in terms of acting. The 4 members of the team are consistently good and can individually carry episodes that center on them. Comparing to other series of its type, for each excellent Spock, there is a wierd Kirk. For each Picard, there is a wooden Riker. I admit this is a matter of taste, but I think O'Neil, Carter, Jackson and T'ealk rock. 4) 9 seasons and counting. A successful spin off. 5) The individual seasons cost under $40. Trek DVD sets are over $80 per season. 6) Writing. We have already commented on consistency. And while I admit that the story ideas are derivative, they borrow from the best and improve on them. Again, this is a subjective thing, but I think SG-1 balances drama, action, content and humor as well as any of the others on this list. In fact, I think Stargate really builds on Star Trek, going more quickly via the gate where no man has gone before, centering on a cohesive team whose complementary strengths make them effective and creating commentary about us as 21st century Americans, much like Trek did. There are also enough mind bending episodes of really new stuff to make the show stand out. 7) Did I mention humor?

Total Addiction,

This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
Great series!!! If you love sci-fi this is for you, the more you watch the more you become addicted to it. Although you will be traveling to other planets, there is nothing out of this world, the complete series is based on real physics theories (not so "fi" but a lot of "sci"). All episodes are arranged in chronological sequence so they do related one another, I recomend you dont skip any because you may get lost. The pilot episode "Children of the Gods" gives you a very good sumary of the original movie, what this series is based on. However, if you want to know more details (as I did), and find out how everything started you should see the movie too. Good luck, you'll be entertained for many days...enjoy!

One of the longest running sci-fi shows in TV history,
By
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
This is a fantastic set of DVD's with great transfer quality & sound as well as some super cool special features on the later seasons.
If your a true stargate fan or just into good sci-fi then this set of Stargate SG-1 is a must have for any collection. Now in its 8th season and with talks of a 9th, SG-1 is sure to be one of the greatest longest running scifi shows in TV history. And to add to the legacy that is available on these DVD's, the Stargate: Atlantis spin off is only gunna improve SG-1's standing in the world of scifi DVD's!!! Star Adrael - www.GateGuide.net

SG-1 the series: I have Season 1-8 on DVD,
By Anghared "Anghared Tegau Eurvron" (Vermont) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - The Complete Seasons 1-7 (DVD)
The series intrigues SCI-FI fans but also mythology fans. Tying the possibilities of life, omnipotent beings and space travel into this series and connecting Einstein's string theory, wormhole, and adding world mythologies, different gods and characters along with new worlds and space travel was the work of geniuses. The series brings SCI FI to "real" life.
After watching the series for several seasons on TV, I had to get the DVDs... Just when the Goa'ulds (sp) are overthrown and you are asking "what next??" The myth of Merlin and the Priors of the Ori appear to take you on further adventures. The characters are well chosen and interact fabulously. In Season 9 (not yet on DVD) I do miss Jack O'Neil as a regular character but adding the two characters Ben Browder and Claudia Black (From Farscape) to this last season brings back a new comic twist. Likewise, a great surprise w/ the addition of Beau Bridges... Better sign up to preorder season 9 DVDs .... I have a feeling they'll go fast.... I look forward to hopefully many more seasons and adventures w/ SG-1 -- These people are geniuses.
