It took 5 weeks of solid viewing -,

This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - Seasons 1-9 (DVD)
But I watched every single episode of Stargate SG-1, seasons 1 to 9. You see the show from the beginning when the Stargate program is established to the outcome of the war with the Goa'uld and the introduction of a new adversary, the Ori.
Each season is presented in a 5 disk set contained in thinpaks. Each thinpak contains 2 DVDs which makes the storage of this 45 disk set much easier. Extras for each season vary - seasons 5,6,7 and 9 have commentaries on each episode, season 8 has commentaries on selected episodes. There are some behind the scenes documentaries, such as a walk through the prop department showing what's been used in different episodes. The best part is, owning this set means you can watch any season 1-9 episode any time you want!

4 1/2 stars. It rarely gets better than this.,

This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - Seasons 1-9 (DVD)
I wish I could choose 4 1/2 stars (9/10). Stargate SG-1 is a very, very good television series to collect on DVD. But the reason why not five stars is that SG-1 was on a smaller budget than Firefly, for which 5 stars is reserved. The smaller budget is likely the reason why SG-1 survived, as the longest-running North American science fiction television series of all time. 9 seasons, 5 DVDs each, which each season containing about 22 episodes. Do the math indeed, that's roughly one fresh, full hour-long episode for every other night for an ENTIRE YEAR!!
There are a few very stupid and very boring episodes in Stargate SG-1, but the better episodes make up for them by far. There is a significant amount of sci-fi mythology in SG-1, tying traditional world histery with alien ideas. And after a while you may grow tired of constantly being bombarded by the Goa'uld storyline, just when you are introduced with whole new stories about Replicators and the ultimate villian ever invented in sci-fi, the powerful Ori! Season 10 is due out on DVD in July 2007, from what I understand. Watch Seasons 1-9 now and if you can manage to watch two episodes every night you just might be able to get them watched within three months, just in time for Season 10 on DVD!! Season 10 (currently showing on Sci-Fi Channel) is the final season of the series. In Fall 2007, two finale movies will be released, one on the Goa'uld story and one on the Ori story. So start buying and watching!!

BEWARE PIRATED COPIES,
By
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - Seasons 1-9 (DVD)
Stargate is great, the series is great, I've enjoyed it for years. However, Amazon is selling a boxed set of 45DVDs and 1CD as legitimate copies of seasons 1 through 9. They are in fact pirated copies and not licensed in any way. They are actually imported from China. As far as I can tell DVDS-DISCOUNTS, MONTZERMOVIES, and GIGAGRACE are selling the bootleg copies. The discs are mis-labeled, the quality is poor and varies from disc to disc, and they are NOT in individual boxes or slimpacks. All 46 discs are in a flimsy, papery, plastic sleeve bundle that is not even attached to the hardback cover and just loose inside the box which is another waste of space and shipping weight. If you are interested in the series speak to your seller before hand and get them to confirm that the discs you are buying are in slim packs or better.

Enter the Stargate,
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - Seasons 1-9 (DVD)
Most TV shows spun off from movies are uninvolving and uninteresting ("Blade," anyone?). But such wasn't the case with "Stargate SG-1," which started as a simple exploration series but expanded into a brilliant tangle of politics, aliens, and Earth's spirit and guts. The first eight seasons are marvelous, and the ninth ain't bad either.
The Stargate has been inactive for a year, when a bunch of Egyptianish warriors come through. General Hammond (Don S. Davis) pulls Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) out of retirement, and sends him to Abydos, where he's reunited with Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) -- only to have Daniel's wife and brother-in-law abducted by the evil Apophis. A rescue attempt sparks off a war with the Goa'uld, aliens who have been impersonating human gods for centuries. So the SG-1 team -- made up of O'Neill, Jackson, scientist/pilot Sam Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Apophis' ex-slave Teal'c (Christopher Judge) -- explore through the Stargate, finding plenty of hostile aliens, strange allies (the Unas, the Asgard), and humans civilizations. Not to mention the gate-builders, who have ascended to another plane. Frst they battle the arrogant Apophis, then the devil-imitating So'kar, and the malignant half-energy Anubis and his army of undead warriors. The Goa'uld power structure starts to splinter, and new secret organizations make power plays on Earth, as SG-1 uncovers the hidden legacies of humanity's ancestors. After that, you'd think it was over. But Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) is given command of SG-1, and manages to gather the team back together, just in time for a new threat to appear -- the Ori, evil ascended beings who demand that everyone worship them, or else. With an alien mercenary's help, they try to save the galaxy once more... but can they stand against godlike beings? Previously all "exploration" sci-fi was just "people on ships." "Stargate SG-1" avoids the space opera approach -- even when ships are introduced, the main focus is on walking through a big stone ring. It's also full of real military, political battles (on and off Earth), and gives us a very plausible reason why everybody in the galaxy (more or less) looks just like us. It's graced with elaborate, opulant sets, solid special effects, shoot-'em-up action from Marines and Air Force, and some truly kinetic space battles (including one that resembles the climax of "Star Wars IV"). The storyline does jolt us at the start of Season 9, since so much -- cast, villains -- changes so quickly. But it still has the humour, likable characters, and warm human moments that made the earlier seasons so good. Best of all is the snappy script. Some of it comes from Teal'c ("Undomesticated equines could not remove me"), but mostly from the tart-tongued O'Neill ("Well, I guess we all start shooting. There's blood, death, hard feelings... it'd suck"). Other characters get great lines too (" I think the circle means 'the place of our legacy'...or it could be 'a piece of our leg', but the first seems to make more sense"). The cast is nothing short of brilliant -- Anderson does a quirky, disrespectful, pop culture-lovin' guy with a hidden tragic past, while Tapping woman and Shanks are great as an enthusiastic geek and genuinely smart, warm military woman. And Judge is astounding as Teal'c, who slowly turns from a stoic, tragic warrior to a warm legendary hero. Corin Nemec had a one-season stint as Daniel's "replacement," and he makes a nice, eager young newbie. Ben Browder channels much of O'Neill's quirkiness when Anderson left the show, and Black -- who appears at the beginning and end of Season 9 -- is kind of annoying at times, but she's admittedly quite funny and quirky, with a tragic past of her own. "Stargate SG-1" is undeniably the best TV spinoff, and one of the best "exploration" shows to make it onto the air. A brilliant series, although the ninth season is a massive change (and ends on a monster cliffhanger).

At last!,
This review is from: Stargate SG-1 - Seasons 1-9 (DVD)
It is an excellent series, and now that I bought it, it is perfect.
The plot is of a never ending stories that intermingle and evolve, producing an amazing story line that grows in complexity and details wonderfully. The dvd set box is of good quality. (45 DVD!) And having the complete series (up to season 9 for now) is a unique opportunity to rewatch the series.

Recording quality is good, but it comes in a cheap/cheesy box and all dvds are in a notebook style book of clear sleeves, with cheap labels. I expected better quality for the price.

This series just keeps going and the amazing thing is I never tire of it. Having a chance to buy the first nine season all in one low price sure beats aquiring them on a one to one basis. If you liked any of the season you will definately enjoy them all. Trust me they are awsome

In our homecountry(Japan), we have no meals to see SG-1 from season 5 to season8 (season 9 is on the air through cableTV now.)I was looking forward to having my orders arrived. The nine pieces of merchandise were packed neatly. We cannot see the DVDs via DVD players made in Japan, because region cords are different between Japan and America. However, the quality of the display with PC are great. Thank you.

When I first heard of Stargate SG-1 I thought it was a ridiculous idea to turn a movie into a tv series. I have seen a 4 or 5 repeat episodes late at night on FOX and thought the show seemed silly. It was not until Season 9 that I really got into the show. I found the Ori story very interesting and mirroring our world, especially with the recent rise in Fundamental Christianity. So I decided that I needed to catch up on the series which I once thought was a silly sci-fi program. At first I didn't like the fact of Kurt Russell being replaced by Richard Dean Anderson - being MacGyver and everything. But eventually I got used to his weird attics and his sometimes-childish behavior. Anderson is actually pretty good in some episodes. Michael Shanks has become Daniel Jackson. James Spader did a great job in the movie, but now I think of Shanks when I think of Dr. Jackson. Major Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) is as brilliant as she is beautiful, and Teal'c (Christopher Judge) provides insight in a world of slaves and false gods. General George Hammond holds the team together. Don S. Davis (who plays Hammond) is great as their commanding officer and I missed him when I left the show. My favorite episodes are the ones the deal fully with the Ancients, Ascension, the Asgard, and the evil Goa'uld and Replicators. I love how they have incorporated the ancient myths of Earth into the universe; being a Historian by heart (and considering that was what my major was in college) I love the ancient myths being explored, especially in my favorite genre, sci-fi.
I changed my view of the show over time. I thought it was a silly idea back when I had only heard and seen 4 or 5 episodes - some of the episodes aren't so good, but the majority of the series is great, worthy of 10 seasons and being placed up along side the likes of Star Trek and Babylon 5. If your a fan of sci-fi and enjoy the ancient myths, Stargate SG-1 is for you. I would suggest watching the movie before the series - they change a couple of things when they convert to the tv series, such as the Goa'uld (Ra was supposed to be the last of his kind, and we was not a "snake-like" creature), and suddenly the people on Abydos can speak perfect English (well I guess Dr. Jackson could have taught them). Anyways, watch the show if you love sci-fi!

This is wonderful science fiction, well written, well acted out, and well orchestrated. Let the veiwer or buyer understand that this is a form of unique science fiction, in so much that it embodies occasional humor, regular dual plots, multiple lead characters, and a good amount of real science along with fabricated science, tied together with a goodly amount of fiction, all together quite entertaining.
