5.0 out of 5 stars I will keep this book on my Kindle forever May 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story had every thing I have ever searched for in a love story. Don't be turned off by the time travel aspect, I almost forgot how they met when I became engrossed in the book. The depth of Cassie and Blaine's love for each other transcends the tumultuous times that existed in 1784 and the adaption of Cassie to this period of time, from social skills to dress to modes of travel to indians to the wilderness, and wild animals, all for love.

Cassie was portrayed as a modern woman who knew enough to test the waters first then determine how far she could go. There were no screaming at each other just difference of opinions and alot of negotiation. She was perky and a little mischievous and very much in love with Blaine. Blaine was a self made man as Captain of the Stargazer and owner of another merchant ship. He took his responsiblities seriously and never seemed to show any emotions until Cassie made her appearance in the ocean near his ship the Stargazer. Then his life changed dramatically. He loved her so much that he forgave her anything and she could calm him when no one else could.

Of course every one knows that life has it surprises, and Cassie and Blaine were not immune. There is the scary episode in the book where Cassie and Blaine were separated and you could just feel the emotional torment that being separated tore them apart.

Then the story does not ends like in so many other books, life resumes and time passes and their love flourishes.

This was not a sappy love book, although several times they both reiterated their love for each other, it just seem so natural. It is a story of two people who were soul mates from first sight, it took you from their meeting to the making of a life and home in the wilderness of Virginia.

A keeper and wonderful love story.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a bit over the top February 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Protagonist Cassie exits a crashing plane into 1784 and the arms of Blaine Sterling - just like that! Within days they are madly in love and married (the author is staying away from things like premarital sex) and are on the road to a wilderness paradise - where fields are spouting crops and there just happens to be a mansion to live in... Cassie, from the land of microwaves and electric ovens, walks into a 1784 kitchen and immediately gets the hang of it...
The book's conflict comes from an Iroquois tribe in the pay of the British - the goal being to get the settlers out of there and claim the land for the British crown. But the real problem is the tribal chief who takes one look at Cassie and decides that she was made for him, whether she likes the idea or not! Funny how Cassie, in the turn of the 20th/21st centuries, was lonely and man-less but the minute she gets to the 18th, every male in sight has the hots for her. There are also other problems with the Iroquois chief, who thinks that the way to get sexual pleasure from a feisty female (and he claims to want it feisty) is to beat her so thoroughly that she loses consciousness. Oh, and he's willing to wait for days to achieve this state....
In other words, the author has just taken so many liberties with the plot and glossed over so many contradictions that it was annoying. Hot sex scenes do not a novel make!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I could have read more January 20, 2014

I really don't like to write reviews for books I haven't finished, but I felt something needed to be said about the editing (or lack thereof.) I don't know if I got a lemon copy, but this book was FILLED with commas in all the wrong places and that made it impossible to get past the first several chapters. I really, really tried to push through it, but it was messing with the cadence in my head and at a certain point it wasn't worth it. I know commas are tricky and are sometimes used at the author's discretion, but they were truly all over the place here in a way that is absolutely, undeniably, grammatically incorrect. For example, "Strange feelings, she secreted away, unable to handle the storm...he created." If that was just a one-time thing, it might be easy to overlook. Unfortunately, it occurred often enough that it sounded like William Shatner was reading the story in my head, and boy, does that take the romance out of it.

It's 1784, and Blaine is determined to fight for the love of his life. He must protect Cassie, regardless of risks taken that endanger their lives. The author takes you on a wild journey that tugs at the heart every inch of the way as we witness a plane being high-jacked to trials-and-tribulations of saving lives. Jewel Adams delivers a steamy romance in a picture-perfect historical setting.Compelling, romantic, interesting, and filled with passion. Enjoyable and Highly Recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Was able to read it in one day, which is good 'cause I can't afford to lose the sleep I would have missed to keep reading to the end. The story tugged at my heart, I was so sorry for the losses the two suffered but was very overjoyed for their ultimate happiness. Thank you for a great read! Joan
