Book Description

September 2009
Stark is lots of skin, sensuality, and even a little pathos, glazed with a shine that makes his models precious like jewellery - real eye catchers. the native-born Philippino Lope Navo acquired a name with his sensual portraits of half and fully naked men as well as his almost staged set-ups of the male body. these pictures were door openers to magazines like dna, Pref, and Geil as well as ad campaigns for dsquared and american rag. amongst his models are the top names of the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Striking and beautiful, October 18, 2009
This review is from: Stark (Hardcover)
Striking in its simplicity, Stark is one of the best books celebrating the beauty of the male form this year. Taking in the incredible photography in this book, it quickly becomes clear that Lope Navo - a native of the Philippines - will soon be joining the likes of Dylan Rosser and a few others, as one of the best male nude photographers today.

Of course good photography is more than just sexy models with beautiful bodies, and Navo goes well past his subjects' superficial qualities (although we'd hardly complain about those qualities), somehow managing to capture the raw sexuality of these men in their eyes, muscles, and attitude.

Although simplicity runs throughout this gorgeous volume, there is plenty of diversity in style and substance. Models pose indoors and out, Navo shoots in both black-and-white and color, and some models even have clothes on. (Albeit not very much... again, no complaints here!) Whether they're merely slightly sultry or blatantly erotic, the guys that Navo turns his camera on are some of the most stunning specimens of male perfection to be found- and he's presenting them for our viewing pleasure!

The most striking images are often the simplest- a man in white briefs leaning against a fence, a model lying in the sand, or a young man resting on a bed. Models skew towards the sexy bad boy type, although there are a few more wholesome guys in the mix as well. There's also a nice mix of shots, including both close-ups and full body shots, posed portraits and of-the-moment captures, and shots taken indoors and out, in studios, and in both color and black-and-white. This diversity ensures that the volume never gets boring, from the front cover to the last page. You definitely won't feel like you're looking at the same shots with different models or a series of photos of one model, broken up throughout the book. Every page is fresh, fabulous and freakin' sexy!

Stark is one of the sexiest male photo books this year. If you like men, you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book at a reasonable price from a seller not listed, June 14, 2010
This review is from: Stark (Hardcover)
The review already published really is on target in every respect. My issue is that $500 or $400 may or may not be a reasonable rate for a signed copy of the book. It was only through my own ingenuity in using the ISBN number to find that the book was available brand new, albeit not signed, for under $80. Considering the incredible disparity in the price, and the fact that my primary interest is/was not in the author's signature, but in the content of the book itself, I cannot understand why Amazon does not consider other sources to make this book available to a wider audience. Considering the economics of the moment, and in general, far more people would have access to purchasing and enjoying the book at $80 than the advertised prices from the sellers you suggest.
