best USA Tuna,

Not quite as good as the premium oil pack tunas from Spain or Italy, but nearly so and a lot less expensive. Good tasting and a good value. This is what chunk light tuna tasted like when I was a kid. Nowadays it is hard to find oil pack chunk lite tuna from major brands. The water pack stuff is garbage -- not much better than cat food. Albacore is tasteless and full of mercury. This stuff is much better. With the dill, lemon, and olive oil you can just open a can, put it on a bowl of lettuce, and have yourself a nice salad.

I LOVE THIS YELLOWFIN! My husband doesn't really like fish, so unless I feel like cooking a filet just for me, I can make a salad and have this with a few capers on top. The flavor is perfect and the price is great. I eat it 3-4 days a week.

Very tasty and makes a great, easy lunch. I wasn't sure I would like "flavored" tuna, but I love this. It's moist without being too oily or watery, and the amount of herbs and spices is perfect. The Starkist Roasted Garlic in Olive Oil is really good, too, although Amazon doesn't have it.

Possibly the best canned seafood item,
This review is from: Starkist Yellow Fin Tuna, Lemon Dill, 5.5-Ounce Can (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
This is solid light tuna as opposed to chunk light and it's also yellow fin. The quality exceeds other canned tuna's.
The oil goes well with the tuna, as does the lemon dill. Luckily, the lemon is not that strong, and when combined with the dill, the offset flavor is very nice. Here's the problem with the product. The size. Like all tuna's, it was 6oz, then it went to 5.5 oz, then to 5 oz and now to 4.5 oz. I hope they stop here. I think that 5oz is a bare minimum for what's considered to be a full-size can. By the way, with sold light yellow fin tuna(all brands), you won't need any mayo. The taste is good enough to eat right from the can.

Like many others my age, 65, I need to watch my weight, and have other health concerns. I started eating tuna for lunch or an afternoon snack 5 or 6 days a week. I tried several different brands and products over the past 2 years. My favorite quickly became two Starkist products, their "Gourmet Choice" Yellowfin Tuna, with garlic in olive oil, and also with lemon in olive oil. Both are delicious, and consistent in quality and taste. The oil is light and flavorful. It does not taste salty, and has no offensive "fishy" odor. I often eat it with a fork, right out of the can. I usually buy this product from a local supermarket for about $1.29/can.
I find Albacore to be rather flat tasting, and the controversy about mercury content is another concern. Anything packed in water is substandard as far as I am concerned. Conclusion: This is my favorite canned tuna product. It is an excellent value. I have used it for years, and will continue to do so. Bon Appetit, my friends. |
