Patrick McEvoy and David Rodriguez's Starkweather: Immortal was an epic story of betrayal and forgiveness mixed with an intertwined world of magic and twists. The story was amazingly written with incredible characters made so you won't soon forget them by the enchanting and gripping art McEvoy provides captivating you ...with each panel.

The story Rodriguez has put into motion with this graphic novel starts out by throwing you in the middle of intriguing circumstances, something most book no longer do. With more narative explanations and long drawn out conversations doing a paint by number detailed imprinting of storyline, most books fail where Rodriguez succeeds by leaving you in the dark and allowing you to find out what all the mystery is as the main character himself has the truth revealed to him. There is no lack of interesting dialogue and humor within this tale of fantasy and self discovery.

The art delivers with a punch from the first panel to the very last, allowing you to feel as though you are viewing a story rather than reading one. The colors and shades embrace the emotions that are needed for each sequence as the story progresses. In fact, there are moments when you squint to make sure it is an illustration and not an actual photo you are looking at! The use of highlights for scenes involving magic matches that which one would imagine it would be like to see as if it was happening right in front of you!

A true graphic novel is only as strong as the team put together to bring it to life; the writer to create and set the tone while the artist designs and brings the universe to life. To me, this book did all that is asked of such a title. Once you start reading this, you will not be able to put it down.
