A budding romance writer and book shop owner finds herself whisked away on a real life adventure in space and time.
A very enjoyable read. I felt I could relate to the character of Mellissa, and enjoyed her interplay with the charismatic Capt Duvall McCord.
The love scenes are hot and the growing relationship between the two leads is very believable.
The secondary characters are well fleshed out and made me want more.

It seems like there is much more to come with these characters and I happily await further books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spec fic love out of this universe August 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mellissa and Duvall face a love against all odds in Starline. There is lots of tension, lots of sexy characters and, well, more than a little bit of hot, passionate sex :) Taken from the earth of the past, Mellissa and Duvall must find the saboteur of the Elector, the newest of the ships in the Earth Empire fleet, stop a plot to change the past and save the world of the future, Duvall's world before it is all too late. Can Mellissa and Duvall find love against all odds but with their destinies set in the stars?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling Ride June 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'd like to start off with some cover love. That is truly a beautiful cover on a really enjoyable read!! Duvall's character is a true depiction of a man married to the military, or in this case to his ship. He is one of those..If I was meant to marry the army would issue me a wife kinda guys. You get the picture, he is literally the job. Even his friends doubt he is totally human. It takes one little human writer from our time to literally knock him of his feet. All of those lovely mantras of love em' and leave 'em, slowly go flying out the door.

Mellissa is a pretty cool chick. By day, she is a mild mannered book store owner. By night she has begun her second career of writing Sci-fi romances. So imagine her surprise when her book literally comes to life. I think she handles it pretty well. She ripped from her time because of a package that was dropped in her store. Duvall had tracked it to her time and location. It doesn't add up at first but Mellissa has an important role in the development of time-travel. She was deliberately targeted and if Duvall hadn't snatched her out of the way, Crick would have had her killed.

This was a great book!! You follow Duvall's learning about love and having an actual relationship with feelings and his search to eradicate Cricks infiltrators. You also follow Mellissa as she starts completely over again in a foreign world where books don't exist. What a horrid twist!! But she is determined to fit in somewhere and to to stay by Duvall. Together, along with three other really close friends, they strive to uncover and destroy the enemies before the enemies destroy them.I can't wait to read the next book! This has the makings of a really good series!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Action & Romance Abound in This Sci-Fi Saga April 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As a big fan of the sci-fi genre and it's mix of action, suspense, and intriguing views of the future I found myself drawn to this story and the groundwork that was laid for a trilogy set in the future with occasional visits to the past. With its likable characters, action packed scenes, and some super sexy interludes I found a rather enjoyable read that has me intrigued for what comes next.

Mellissa grew up in an orphanage with no family and now runs a bookstore writing a book about other lovers living a life of excitement. Through a sci-fi twist of fate she ends up traveling through space and time with a no-nonsense overachieving Captain. I liked Mellissa and felt sympathy for her as her whole world was turned upside down. She accepted the changes to her life fairly quickly and wasn't one of those annoying heroines who didn't do what she was told in a crisis. She had a backbone but used her smarts more.

Duvall stayed away from long-term relationships wanting to focus on his career. That's why it was so surprising how quickly he fell for Mellissa. The sexual tension between them didn't slowly build, it just suddenly exploded. The sexual interludes between them were hot and frequently occurring, almost too many which I don't say often. I'd like to have seen more character development of them as well as the secondary characters, and most particularly the villain and his motives.

We're told how horrible Crick Sur Banden is but we barely see him and his motives aren't really clear. He uses underlings to enact his plans and therefore he never really seems that dangerous.

When you find yourself in possession of a futuristic handbook anything can happen.
This was a very enjoyable read with enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. I loved all of the characters in this story and thought they were really well written and seeing how these two very different people interacted with each other was interesting and fun.
Mellissa is your average bookstore owner/aspiring romance author and I found her to be a very relatable. It was really fun to get to know this character and see how she handled all of this sudden chaos in her life.
Duvall was an interesting character who I thought was a great match for Mellissa because he brought just the right amount of excitement to her life. He was also very noble and you could tell he would be a great captain. I loved the relationship between these two characters and felt it grew at a realistic rate instead of just insta love.

More About the Author

A mother of two, compulsive reader and bookstore owner. She lives in regional Queensland, Australia with her husband, 2 daughters, dog, cats, guinea pigs and chooks. She has a particular fondness for Vampires, Star Ship captains and things that go bump in the night.

How did you make the leap from reader to writer?
Being a compulsive reader, ideas and stories were usually rattling around in my head. As a young girl, crinolines populated my books, much to the chagrin of my mother!

As a teen, reading moved into more science fiction genres, with Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffrey making regular appearances, as well as the Bolitho books by Alexander Kent. Not exactly the norm for a girl, but they intrigued me as I devoured the strategy involved. Only in latter years did Paranormal romance and the odd Urban Fantasy make an entry into my reading fare.

In the last few years, it has been the JD Robb, Julia Spencer-Fleming and Linnea Sinclair influences, together with the likes of Cynthia Eden, Lara Adrian and so many more. Each has played their own part in shaping me as a reader, and as a result, a writer as well.

What do you do when not writing?
I run a small independent bookstore, which I own and that allows me to feed my addiction, but I also have a Bachelors Degree in Teaching with a specialization in Early Childhood.

I have worked as a teacher, a kindergarten director and even an assistant in Child Care over the years. Since I resigned from teaching I have used my skills for goodness and light, written web pages, taught basic computing and online skills and happily runs my little bookstore.

I love to cook, make wine and grow chickens and guinea pigs. I am trying to slowly refurbish an old railway house , which my husband and I bought and have a singular weakness for chocolate and fine white wine...well, doesn't everyone?

Where to next for Imogene?
I am finishing the Warriors of the Elector series, with Starfire and then Starburst as the conclusion and because I couldn't help myself, there is also a short story called The Star of Ishtar and is briefly how Elara and Grayson finally ended up together. There is also a vampire book and perhaps a shifter tale as well to be completed and I have a tale of tricks, hidden identities and mistakes which just might come next. After that? Who knows? There are few other interesting stories chasing around in my head.

And if I run out of ideas, my daughters have a request list as long as my arm, including the odd YA.

Favourite Hero?
Currently Nathan Fillion in his escapades as Mal from Firefly and Rick Castle, but that is subject to change without notice.

Influences?
Captain Janeway and Captain Picard from the Star Trek series, not forgetting of course Seven of Nine! Count in Buffy (in the early years) and Rick Castle, Damia, Eve Dallas and Roarke and you start to get the picture.
