I had a DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand that I replaced with this one. So that is my baseline for comparison.

Cons:
-The most annoying thing for me is the bright blue LED right up front. It is distracting while trying to watch a DVD, and it keeps me up at night with its flashing (Yes, it flashes when there is no signal). I'm covering it with some black tape.
-The stand is flimsy, and it feels like the monitor will fall on its face (though that is not likely to happen).
-There are absolutely no adjustments on the stand, but the viewing angles are quite good, so you don't really need to adjust. Still it would have been neat to be able to adjust the vertical angle.
-Further comparing with 2005FPW, this does not have a USB hub built in, which was quite useful. I knew this when I bought, and this is what to expect for the price (with rebate).
-Elegant is not the word that comes to mind when you look at this monitor. It is not ugly, but it is not sleek or sexy either. The bezel is large and makes the monitor look more square than widescreen. Then again, what do you expect for this price.
-One dead pixel. I can live with that.

Pros:
+The biggest pro is that the monitor does well what it is supposed to do, i.e. show crisp, clear pictures and video. I had to adjust the brightness and contrast to get it right (Out of the box, the screen looks washed out). That is the reason I am keeping it.
+The monitor is very light, lighter that my old 20", which makes it easy to set up.
+Good viewing angles. I can see the monitor clearly from all around my room.

I have not tried out the speakers, as I don't intend to use them. Also, I have had it for only 2 weeks, so I don't know how long it will last.
Amazon shipping was horrendous. The monitor box was put in a much larger box, with no padding. It rattled and destroyed the outer box, and damaged the inner box. I was surprised to see the monitor working (shows that it is built well). Amazon's response to my email was inadequate.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal - some ghosting issues - might be my video card, January 11, 2008

I was so excited when I saw the price & several good reviews on this monitor. Used some xmas gift cards & as usual, amazon had speedy service. Set it up, admired it size, & fired up my computer. (and yes, the blue light is annoying- I would have taped over it with electrical tape!) The base is adjustable, but it's very tight, so I can see how people would think it wouldn't be - but if you look at it, it does have a pivot, and gentle (firm) pressure will move it slowly. Not sure of the range, but I could adjust no problem at least 20 degrees up/down.

After using for a few minutes, I started seeing that the there were faint impressions of the pictures previously displayed, that would fade in a few seconds. I tinkered with multiple settings, and connected it to several computers, with various resolutions. I couldn't get the ghosting to stop. I verified that the video card supported the resolution (GEforce 6600GT 128 MB), and updated drivers. Just couldn't get it to stop. The video card is a year or two old, but no reason it shouldn't work. I even went from dual display to single display, just to see a difference, but nothing stopped the ghosting.

Maybe it is my video card, but after trying on 2 laptops & my desktop, decided it was more likely I had either a bad monitor, or for some reason, it was incompatible with my video card (another $100+ bucks to address that, so....) Kudos to those it works great for, but I'm done tinkering (if you have advice on how to fix - let me know!!!!) Going with a viewsonic 22" monitor instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor for the price - if you don't want speakers, December 13, 2007
This review is from: Starlogic 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
The monitor I was using before this hasn't been in production for quite a while, and is almost 8 years old now.. ViewSonic PF815 Perfectly Flat 21" CRT Monitor

I've been using the monitor about 3 weeks now. In direct comparison to the PF815, the Starlogic wins in every category except black, and refresh rate (to be expected from a CRT-LCD comparison.)

I echo the previous reviewer's concern regarding the shipping, the huge outer box was pretty torn up and bashed in, and physically the monitor came through with more than 3 scratches, and some chipped paint. However the screen itself was pristine, and no dead pixels.

The speakers are rear-firing and sound worse than my (Sony MDR-V6) headphones with the volume cranked up. Definitely would not recommend purchasing if the speakers are of any concern. I bought a DVI-D cable immediately to replace the poorly shielded VGA cable that came with the monitor.

The panel used is an AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0). It is markedly better looking than the Samsung 226BW, which is an LCD I have a handful of hours of experience with.

Overall the monitor lives up to my expectations 100% given the price, I docked it one star for the bad outer packaging and resulting scratches (inner box was quite well packaged), and the terrible speakers. I would've rather saved another $5 or $10 and not had them at all.

Pros
Good panel. The color is much better than my old dell 2005fpw.

Cons
The base has no adjustment. And the blue LED in front is really annoying.

Amazon's box looked like it got run over by the ups truck, but star logic packs the monitors very well in thier own box and it came without a scratch. Easy to set up, very clear monitor, no dead pixels. I just got it so I don't know about how long they will last but my first impression is very favorable, nice looking screen great graphics, easy to set up. The blue led power light is a little obnoxious but a piece of black tape will cover it. I'm glad I bought this monitor and it was a great price, thanks Amazon.

This is a great looking monitor, all pixels look good and clear. I agree with other reviews though, that Blue Light on the front is a little annoying. For the price, this is a good deal on a 24" monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Deal, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Starlogic 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
For $299 with free shipping and no tax, this deal can't be beat. I'm very satisfied with the monitor. No dead or stuck pixels. Came in a huge box from Amazon with a bunch of paper protecting the factory monitor box. It got here in like two days. There is a slight pink tint when viewing it from the top and a slight blue tint when viewing it from the bottom. Speakers are ok for Windows sounds and u-tube videos. Use gaming headphones for real sound. For me, it's a gaming monitor, and it's phenomenal. Quick response rates. Deep and rich color. An LG or Samsung is better, but those are twice as much.

My only problem is that I can't play Crysis on 1920x1200 at high settings on a E6750 and 8800GTS320 oc'd to 624. So this monitor is forcing me to upgrade to something faster - probably E6850 and SLI 8800GTs, which will set me back around another $800.

5.0 out of 5 stars StarLogic 24" LCD, December 24, 2007
This review is from: Starlogic 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This is a great 1080p lcd monitor for the price. No bells and whistles; lacks an adjustable base (height; angle can be changed), and the contrast and brightness capabilities aren't the best around. however, they aren't at all bad either. I am a gamer, and bought this monitor for a gaming rig, and have no complaints about its quality. I've been using the monitor for several months now and have had no problems. Would recommend this product to anyone who wants a good 1080p widescreen monitor and doesn't need all the expensive extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great screen, December 21, 2007
This review is from: Starlogic 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I've had the monitor for about 3 weeks and I love it. The screen is crisp and bright and the picture is great from any angle. No dead pixels. I've got only great things to say about the screen itself.

I'd give it 5 stars, but I'm going to ding it one for the pretty much unadjustable stand (slight forward/backward tilt is it), and the super bright blue LED I had to cover up because it distracted from the screen.

FYI I've never tested the speakers in it (I assumed they were terrible and just stayed with my 5.1 surround system)

Overall a fantastic monitor for the price. It's hard to find a non-TN screen like this for close to this price.
