5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Soundtrack to a Nice Movie, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
1984 really wasnt a bad year was it..well at least movie wise. There was a slew of good movies; The Never Ending Story, The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, Gremlins, Amadeus, The Terminator...and last but not least STARMAN. I loved STARMAN when I first watched the movie on HBO back in the 80's. I loved the concept of Starman; the glowing spheres, the spaceship, the... loss and resurrection of love, the... undying message of hope, and (as always) the everlasting theme of peace. Basically, what I just typed can be summed up in the brilliant score by Jack Nitzsche. "Starman Main Theme" IS one of the most uplifting themes ever recorded. The rest of the score fits this movie like a glove. All the movie's themes are represented, all the emotion is CAPTURED.
Even if you havent seen S T A R M A N, give this soundtrack a try; its a great listening experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting Sountrack, September 15, 2000

This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This a very special CD which features a very beatiful melody, such as profund as enigmatic. Actually it was because of it that I bought the album. Starman Leaves/End titles could be rated as STARMAN theme, but I'd rather like you to get you own opinion if you have the oportunity to get it. The Whole music is in such a similar style as Vangelis and Alan Parson's Project and others New Age Composers, if I'm allowed to say it so.

Nevertheless, it has a little peculiarity: it features a 30-minute play, aproximately. Worth not buying if you expect to listen to a Brandenburg Concertos like play.

Mr. Bridges and Mrs. Allen participation in this album makes it as special as Mr. Nitzche talent to make it real. But of course, Mr. Bridges should never take seriously a singer career.

Some tracks I recommend: No. 2 Here come the Helicopters; No. 6 Pickup Truck; No. 8 All I have to do is Dream (very good music arragement, by the way); and of course No. 14 Starman Leaves/End Titles, a melody I consider as an Hymn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Score, May 3, 2005
This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Starman was one of my favourite films growing up and I equally loved the beautiful score that Jack Nitzsche came up with my favourite track is the end tiles and I was surprised the Nitzsche didn't get a oscar nod for his mastpiece score.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful, July 24, 2008

This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I instantly loved this movie, and its soundtrack is one of the reasons. Jack Nitzsche was nominated for a Golden Globe for this score, and should have been Oscar-nominated as well. The synthesizers will take you back to the 80's, but in a good way.

I loved the movie. I love the sound track even more! At $18 for a 30 minute CD the capitalist ogre almost made me not purchase it. Nonetheless, thank you Jack Nitzsche. Is it New Age? It is any age. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars ILLEGAL ALIENS, October 30, 2004
This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
NITZSCHE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMPOSERS OF OUR TIME. ALL HIS MUSIC USED IN SOUNDTRACKS IS CUSTOMIZED FOR EACH PARICULAR SCENE. THIS SOUNTRACK IS NO EXCEPTION. YOU CAN LITERALLY WATCH THE MOVIE THROUGH THE MUSIC. AND WHENEVER I FEEL LIKE BEING PUMPED UP AND MOTIVATED I LISTEN TO THE CLOSING TRACK FROM STARMAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very peaceful, March 14, 2004
This review is from: Starman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I'm one of these people who is never fully relaxed, and never normally relaxes, no matter what I'm doing. I've been told I'm quite a tense person, and my brain is always buzzing away at something!

But this CD is the most relaxing thing I've ever listened to. I literally drifted off during the first listen of it. I was online at the time, while listening to it, so I wasn't completely relaxed, but if I was to have this on, and just lie and listen to it, or listen to it with someone else, then it would be very relaxing. Plus, I got it for the bargain price of 50p! Best CD I've heard this year.

Most of the CD is music, and not actual songs, which some people like and some dislike. I'm neither, I like both. There is only one 'song' on this CD, and that's 'All I Have To Do Is Dream' by Karen Allen & Jeff Bridges. The rest is the brilliant score.

Must of the tracks aren't very long, most last just over a minute. The longest track in the Starman Leaves/End Title. And a plus point is that most of the tracks seem to blend into each other as they are so similar. You've got 14 tracks in total, which only last just over 30 minutes. But the CD contains all the favourite cues and scored sections from the movie.

If you're a fan of the film, you HAVE to get this, or at least it borrow it from somewhere. I got my copy from a charity shop, and practically pounced on it. And it was still in good condition. If you like relaxing music, and can ignore Karen Allen/Jeff Bridges' singing, then you'll love this CD! (Their singing is NOT that bad, but they won't be giving up the day job anytime soon.)
